At times it was not easy to break down the walls they both have, but if anything, Danaerys is not afraid to broach those topics. And night after night, they share a tent or sleep beside a fire that it has become normal to lie next to him. Tonight is no different, even if it has been an exhausting day. She asks him if he's alright, placing a gentle hand on his side. For as strong as she is, she is often very nurturing.

[ it's one of those rare nights that prompto's sort of invited himself over and nyx hadn't told him to leave. or maybe he had and he'd ignored it in favor of talking his ear off about... something. a new camera he's interested in buying, the traffic around the citadel and how much of a nightmare that is, why all the best food places were miles – on foot – from where he lived. just inane things he isn't sure nyx has any interest in, but it gets them through some greasy takeout prompto already feels guilty for eating. it gets them to the part where one of them's kissing the other, and prompto honestly can't remember when he ended up in nyx's lap, only that he doesn't mind being there. he's never really minded, and his fingers grip at the longer strands of dark hair as he leans in, humming a little under his breath. ]

[ he doesn't give himself a chance to finish the thought, not when his other hand is sliding between them and palming down to nyx's pants. there's already a faint flush to his face and coasting the back of his neck from being so forward, but it's not really a surprise by now that he's so into this. even if the initial few times had sort of started out as accidents that just kept happening, prompto isn't going to fight the attraction. it's there, and he wants things he has no idea how to name or bring up. they don't talk about those kinds of feelings though, only what and where and sometimes when since nyx's schedule is a lot harder to pin down than his own.

but he does press his mouth to his throat, a faint scrape of teeth into skin before he slides back to make room like he's planning to get down on his knees between nyx's thighs. his fingers fiddle with the fastening, gaze partially focused on nyx's face and chest and thoughts a little scattered. it's not like he needs permission, but there's just something about the anticipation that excites him. ]

[ From the top researchers to interns to the janitors, the collective sigh of relief from the staff of the newly relocated U-GIN Genetic Research Facility could be heard across the bay on which the building was situated. It was, to most, a well-deserved release of tension; the project had been a grueling, secretive operation with all involved working for nearly a month until the darkest hours of the morning. Spouses didn't return home, the commute too much of a distraction from scientific progress. Tempers flared during rare coffee excursions before offended parties could make it back to their halogen-lit offices. At least one junior scientist was found asleep in his lab chair.

While the days drug on, beginning from the embryotic discovery stage and stretching all the way to the fever pitch of success, Dr. Helen Cho oversaw every development with an unwavering gaze. Her hand was in everything and her word law.

No one had to be told twice when the work was done and she'd dismissed her team with the first sign of weariness in her thanks. They left in droves to see family or neglected pillows or the bottom of bottles, barely noticing that she lingered behind. No one would have questioned it, really, but rather chalked it up to her dedication to her job, just as no one quite noticed the man who seemed to come from the very sea itself that lapped so close to the facility and entered the place with no fanfare.

Someone would have noticed the way Helen pulled him close as soon as she saw him and crashed her lips against his as she pulled his giant frame down towards hers. They would, had they not gone to seek their stress relief.

She had her forms of that, too, most notably how she had her arms (and legs) wrapped around him as she buried her face into his shoulder. Her lab coat pulled down to her waist, her bare back was pressed against the wall of a neat little nook somewhere in the dark hall. For the first time in weeks, she wasn't calling the shots...
