Nature is no respecter of persons, my friends. Whether it be childhood friends, newlyweds, or one-night stands, a single decision or accident can change everything, and there will be three people instead of just two.

Congratulations! The characters in these threads and those who reply to them are now expecting babies, no matter what their unique situation may be. Of course, depending on the characters, this might go over like a lead balloon. But wait! Even if the decision to have a baby was made and was consensual, the process is no walk in the park. There is lots to do...and only nine months to do it. Nine potentially drama-filled months.

HOW TO PLAY

• Comment with your character, preferences, etc.
• Not all options here are fluffy and happy. Some are potentially angsty or possibly triggering. Tread lightly. Be sure to mention what you want and what you don't want.
• Reply to others.
• For this, male characters can get pregnant because why not.

PROMPTS

• How'd It Happen: What led up to this event? How are you in this situation?


• Realization: There's a wrench in the works...or maybe it was expected, but you're just realizing you're pregnant.


• Positive Reaction: Yes, after all this time and planning! You're finally ready for a family.


• Negative Reaction: Oh, no. This is terrible. You're in no position to take care of a child!


• Freak Outs: But...how? You're a human, she's an alien, how -


• Deciding What to Do: If this wasn't planned, there needs to be a plan of action now.


• Keep it Secret: You're attempting to keep your pregnancy a secret from your partner. This is only a bandaid for the bigger problem.


• Telling Others: The other people in you two's life have to know at some point.


• Drama: No one wanted you to have a kid and the anger is palpable.


• Morning Sickness and More: Everything hurts and the mornings are hell.


• Learning: If you're in a technologically advanced society, you may get to see an ultrasound. Otherwise, there are folk remedies that can be tried.


• Manipulation: One of you is using the prospect of a child to bend the other to their will and make them stay.


• My Body is a Cage: The person carrying the baby is having a decent amount of discomfort, mentally and physically.


• Showing: It's a secret no longer with an expanding stomach.


• Support: The partner who isn't carrying the child should do their best to be there and help out...


• Overprotective: ...but to a degree. Don't act like the partner carrying the child is made of paper.


• Getting Ready: The house or apartment or castle has to be babyproof.


• Heart to Heart: It's time to talk about the big changes before the happen. Where do the two of you stand?


• It's Happening: THE BABY IS COMING.


• Rough Going: Childbirth is still a dangerous affair and there's no smooth sailing for you. So pace if you're lucky, scream in the bed if you're not.


• Bad End: Not all new beginnings last. Sometimes, they become unhappy endings.


• Coming Home: Finally, parents and baby get to settle down.


• Getting Used to This: Well, maybe settle down. There's still crying in the night, feedings to do, diapers to change...

While Darcy had initially applied for the internship with Erik Selvig as a means of rounding out her last six required credits, she had inadvertently discovered a fascination with science, and the idea of visitors from other worlds. As an avid consumer of pop culture, being a part of Jane Foster's discovery of wormholes was like living in a work science fiction turned reality. Surreal. Exciting. Occasionally terrifying.

And yet, even after the internship was over, Darcy couldn't seem to give up watching the stars. How could she, when she knew that each one of them might have its own system of planets, with its own people, and culture, and even magic? Sure, Jane would role her eyes at Darcy's romanticism, but being able to explain the advances in Asgardian tech in scientific terms didn't make it any less wondrous to Darcy. And there were still more world's beyond Asgard. So Darcy watched, eager to see what, or who, might fall to earth next.

Loki Hyrrokkinson... Laufeyson, if he has to, at court... might've heard something about new king of Asgard and his Warriors three spectacularly visiting Midgard for barely a good reason, yes.

That was no concern of his.

There's much less of a lightshow when he visits, almost in secret - almost a habit from when he was a prince. A prince? More like a fancy prisoner.

Oh. Even with nary a lights, or at least not much, somebody noticed him. He begins to give a slight bow, then checks himself, he's a king-

[No matter your station, be polite, unlike some danmned jerks at court]

Right. Loki inclines his head slightly, mutters, "Good day to you, my lady", then turns turns away, this is enough, surely.

Of course, something would happen the moment Darcy least expects it. One moment, she standing there, alone, and the next, there he is. She doesn't recognize him, he's definitely not from Asgard, but he's got that same, courtly manner of speaking.

"Good day...my lord?" She replied, bending her knees in a belated curtsey, and hoping that was the appropriate response. Following after him probably wasn't, but this was Darcy. She might be smart, but she was also more then a bit impulsive. And nothing interesting ever happened buy playing it safe. "Sorry if I startled you. Are you looking for someone or something in particular?"

Well, the ones from Asgard don't have blue, icy skin and weird lines on skin, do they? And he does. Completely blue skin, red eyes, might look exotic to her, right? Or dangerous. Whichever.

"I wasn't looking for--"

Huh. Such a question...

Loki Hyrrokkinson shakes his head.

"Memories, so to speak, if there's the question of what I'm looking for."

Hmmm. Well. He can always throw the question back at her.

"And what were you looking for, young mortal? A frost giant? You've found one, if so, you can go home now."

He does look exotic. Alien, even. But he isn't brandishing a weapon or hurling balls of energy at her--yet--so her sense of self-preservation hasn't told her to run screaming. Besides, she tased a god, once. It's going to take more than blue skin to scare her. Probably.

"You don't know much about Midgardians, do you?" she quips, "If you think I'm going to find a frost giant wandering around on Earth, and just..." She gestured vaguely with a wave of her hand. "Go home." It's not like visiting a national monument; been there, done that, bought the t-shirt sort of thing. "Besides, you've obviously come a long way to find these memories, or whatever. Maybe I can help. And it would be rude not to offer my hospitality, wouldn't it?"

"I don't know much of mortals' hospitality, ya're righ---- uh, t'is true, Lady."

He comes closer to Darcy, now looking at her with slight curiosity.

"I may allow You to show me some, why on Jotunheim not, yeah? Let's see what ya've got. Er. What you do have to offer, my fair lady."

But first, there was no need to frighten humans, potentially, so, with a simple illusion - ta da, no more frost giant, in looks. Looks like a human. Mostly. Marks on skin faintly visible.

”Well." She smiles up up at him, eyes widening slightly at the change in his appearance. Magic? Or some kind of holographic projection? Maybe she'll ask later, after they've had a chance to converse.

"First, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Darcy Lewis. Have you visited Earth--that is, Midgard--before?"

"Indeed, rather recently visited. Eighty years ago, last time, just before my coronation."

"Nice to... It is a pleasure to meet you, Darcy Lewis."

[poliscifi]

"Likewise," she says, smiling. "But you can call me Darcy." It hasn't really sunk in yet that the king of Jotunnheim has come to earth, seemingly for nostalgia's sake. It's just so surreal. "I think you'll find that a lot can change for us mortals in eighty years."

Generations come and gone. Buildings raised and demolished. Landscapes completely reshaped.

Though some things were slower to change.

"I hope it won't be too much of a culture shock."

[hyrokkinson]

"Culture shock?"

Loki shakes his head. Apparently thinking of something unpleasant, at that.

"I'm not so easily surprised, Ms Darcy. Not since ages ago. I'm not as weak as I once had been."

"Well, I suppose that's fair," she concedes, shrugging her shoulders. If he can put up with her pestering, he can probably adapt to "And in that case, if you'd like to accompany me into town for drinks, I'd be happy to show you around. Maybe get a bite to eat while we're out and about. Or I could prepare something for you at my home, if you'd prefer."

Loki ponders something.

"Looking like myself is surely ou of question? I can look like this, for a day. I wonder if you Midgardians still remember the war. I was born at the end of that war."

[poliscifi]

"That depends which war you mean," she says, "Because there have been at least half a dozen wars that this country has been involved in, let alone wars in other parts of the world since the last time you visited eighty years ago. We have stories about Asgard and Jotunheim but almost no one would have believed that those were anything more than myth, if this guy with a big-ass hammer hadn't literally fallen from the sky not long ago. Until then, I don't think we even realized that Asgard and Jotunheim actually existed on other planets, because we've barely seen beyond our own solar system."

She pauses, realizing that she's starting to babble, and it's probably a lot of information to process. "But to answer your first question, a blue alien would definitely turn some heads. Even one as pretty as you." Her face turns bright pink as she realized what she's just said, but there it is. Blue or not, he has a handsome face. "Sorry. But you should be safe if we get back to my house by the end of the day, right?"

open to it! if we’re being mythologically sound, he was a young and savage god during greece’s high point, more god than demigod he’d become by merging with the king of dál araide and becoming mad sweeney. i usually say the name suibhne is fine at any point, as gods have a future and past clairvoyance.

he’d easily follow his faithful into explorations or slavery in greece, carelessly engaging with any woman he came across.

knock people up - sounds like a them problem. he doesn’t have an enormous sense of shame or responsibility at that point, just strict sense of bargains and fairness. while he adores children, kids don’t fall in the latter.
