Arranged turned more.
![]() Arranged Marriage Turned More To have and to hold, you said, till death do us part, all while the sharp, swinging pendulum of obligation hung overhead. But how could you have truly meant those words? This union has been tainted from the start, forever bearing the chains of an arranged marriage. It would be understandable if you couldn't bear to look at your new life partner, eternal reminder of your stolen future that they are, much less like them. Much less love them... Still, things can change. You could realize that they are in the same boat as you or, that when compared to others around you, they are the lesser of evils. Perhaps you even open up to the idea of a friendship; at the very least, an alliance may be in order to become a power couple in a perilous world. From that innocent decision or sense of self-preservation, a new feelings sparks. Something like affection. Something, you realize in the wake of speeding heartbeats, like love. Will you acknowledge this? Can the two of you have a happily ever after - happier than if you'd met in another fashion - or will you hold firm in your distaste? how to play. - Everybody loves "couples forged by less-than-ideal circumstances" tropes! |

So when an arranged marriage was suggested, Bobo had felt like she had no other choice but to at least agree to read the proposal from Mr. Sharpe, who was seeking a bride in the Lilith Kingdom. It turned out to be the best decision she'd ever made, because after a few months of exchanging letters, she felt nothing but joy as she signed her name on a marriage certificate.
Thomas had been perfectly sweet in his letters, gentle and kind in a way that made Bobo really feel like the fairy tale princess all Lilith girls were supposed to be. But maybe even a little importantly, the letters from Lucille had been the ones to win Bobo over. Thomas' sister was sharp and funny, and Bobo always laughed to hear about what she had been up to at Allerdale Hall. Plus, their style was perfectly in tune with Lilith sensibilities, all frills and petticoats and ribbons, just in a dark and Gothic pallet rather than Bobo's preferred pastels. As her mother had told her many times, the key to a good marriage was a matching sense of aesthetics and an appreciation for each other's style.
So she had said yes, and she had been wedded over letters, and she had happily traveled to Allerdale Hall with all her things in a pair of steamer trunks. Seeing the building with her own two eyes had been an absolutely amazing moment, and she had hung her head out the window of the carriage as she saw the tall peaks come into sight. It was a little run-down, but wow! Look at it! With a little elbow grease, she and Lucille and Thomas should be able to get this place looking brand new.
She barely manages to wait until the carriage comes to a stop before she's swinging the door open and climbing out, eager to see her husband for the first time - and to finally hug her sister-in-law like she's promised to a million times in her letters.]

Peony had returned sunburnt and freckled, scarred and weathered but ultimately a happier young woman. Now into her twenty-third year she was ready to accept that she must take a spouse. And she had submitted herself to it willingly. If only the new wife could find time to actually engage with her spouse rather than running off to the woods every afternoon or turning up at dinner engagements only half-dressed. She probably wasn't what had been promised but she was a cheerful companion when she paid attention.
[OOC: Adventurer tamed into being a wifeling. Happy to discuss prompts/other ideas.]
Peony, meet Ferox Cousland from Dragon Age
When the ship was sighted on the horizon, using a clever new invention called a spyglass, he whistled for Horse, a massive mabari hound, and called for his (actual) horse. Down to the docks they rode. He pretended not to hear the whispers, but instead examined the new construction that had sprung up all over the capital that had been burned nearly to the ground by the darkspawn and the Archdemon dragon. Sewers were being dug to take the excess water and mess away. Real roads of stone were being laid and walkways wide enough for people. Buildings were going up, nearly all of them constructed from stone, Fereldens having learned the lesson of the great fire. As he passed the gate of the Alienage, the Arl of Denerium joined the entourage and the elf gained a respectful nod.
Sailors were tossing out ropes to the dockworkers as he dismounted, handing off the reins and he stepped forward with the faithful hound at his side, to greet what he was not entirely pleased to receive.

I think mainly I'd be down for them getting to know one another, having one another's backs enough to build some trust and fondness, etc. Smut optional but would be fine... especially since Alric is pretty intense, underneath the shell of propriety, as she'd already know, after the wedding night.]

Granted, they still live in the same place, and Cor's courteous enough to make him breakfast in the morning and dinner in the evening should his husband be home. But that's the sticking point - he's married to Ravus Nox Fleuret, against either of their choosing.
All because Regis wanted peace...and he wanted Ravus out of the Empire's clutches. Why else did he agree to the Empire's demand to marry the Prince of Tenebrae to the Marshall of the Crownsguard? Not that it saved the Lucian King from Cor's shock and fury once he learned of that particular detail. And reading into nitty-gritty, it seems like the Empire really thought that Cor was going to be a total asshole to Ravus.
Which...technically, he is not, not by Cor's standards. He simply set a few ground rules on their wedding night: 1) No killing anyone of House Caelum or House Amicitia; that's Cor's family. 2) no mass destruction without good reason. 3) No abusing the common folks, up to and including senseless murder. Beyond those rules? Cor's simply slept in the spare bed and let Ravus do whatever the fuck he wanted to do. He may be his husband, but he's not his jailer.
Only...Cor forgets how much of a brat princes can be, even if they've spent the last three or four years stuck under Imperial occupation. It's like one moment, the kid acts like he's saying something nice but it comes out in a jerkish manner instead. And in the other, it's like the kid outright hates him as much as he hates Regis.
Cor sighs as he runs a hand thru his short hair, staring down at the practice sword in his hand and wondering just how the hell is he going to endure this the rest of his life if the past five months are already starting to wear on his nerves...and his resolve to not force himself onto the younger man.
