Instead, Guy (possibly as well as whoever suckered him into helping with this, or heard the noise and came to investigate, or whatever) is staring in bewilderment at the fallen branch that was supposed to be above the roof, but is instead in the process of caving the whole thing in.

[ Luke is standing alongside Guy, hammer in hand. He thought that maybe one of the planks had come loose or had fallen off entirely. He wasn't expecting this. ]

Remind me who chose this tree.

[ You mean to tell him that they went through all that hard work just so the damn tree could become a literal party crasher? ]

I thought it would be strong enough... But I guess that particular branch wasn't in the greatest of shape.

At least the floor is still holding up.

So... Do we climb up there and try getting it out while the rest is okay, or should we go grab some lunch and wait for the whole mess to come down on its own?

As much as I'd like to save the rest, it might be dangerous to go up there right now. We don't know whether or not more branches are going to fall. It might be better to wait and see.

Dammit! It was turning out great, too.

[ Fine then. If they can't do anything by climbing up, he'll go give that stupid tree a piece of his mind from the ground. Namely: a nice, solid kick to its trunk. Traitorous plant! You don't go crushing a guy's hopes and dreams without suffering the consequences! ]

[One of the planks making up the walls, some of which came loose when the roof was crushed, falls to the ground with a sad little clatter. Guy shakes his head.]

Getting mad at the tree won't help, Luke. Come on, let's go get some lunch. We can try to salvage what we can later.

Tch... I'm coming, I'm coming. [ Not without a final whack to vent his frustrations, though. It brings down another plank that had been swinging by a loose nail, the latter of which tonks Luke on his head with its blunt end. ]

Shouldn't a rotted tree look dead? That has to be the problem, right?

[ He's not sulking, okay. He's not! ]

I dunno...might be. Or maybe that branch was damaged in a storm and today just happened to be the day it finally fell. Then the rest of the tree would still be all right.

[ Luke glowers back over his shoulder at the tree, then sighs. ]

Guess that means we're lucky it didn't decide to come down while we were up there. It'd be pretty lame having to explain we were beaten by a tree.

Yeah, that was lucky. We could have been hurt pretty bad. I really should have made sure the branches were stable before we started building...

Hey, it's not your fault. You checked them a couple times over- there's no way you could have known one of them was going to give up the ghost. Nobody got hurt, so it's okay.

Yeah, you're right. Thanks, Luke.

Anyway, what do you want for lunch?

No problem. If anything I should have had a look at it, too. And I'll give you three guesses and the first two don't count.

Something with chicken, I'm guessing.

Wow, Guy! It's like you're psychic.

Now you just relax while I cook us some lunch. Okay?

I can help if you want. My cooking's gotten a lot better.

[ But until Guy gives the okay, he'll toss the hammer aside and flop down onto the grass. ]

You know, that'd actually explain a lot. Like how you always know just what to say to get girls swooning all over you.

Er, anyway. I'll holler if I need any help, but I should be fine. Wait here.

[He disappears inside and a short time later returns with two plates of food. Chicken and vegetables, though he tried to avoid the ones he knows Luke really doesn't like]

That's not fair, I've always done the same thing and that just gets me in trouble! [ Being a spoiled brat has nothing to with it. ]

Okay. Try not bump into any ladies on your way.

[ He'll wait patiently for once, keeping an ear out for any screams or calls for help. Thank goodness there's no trouble; it's comfy here. Though once Guy returns he sits up to make a 'gimme gimme' motion. Chicken...! ]
