Age of Sail

Age of Sail Meme
Welcome to the high seas and the Caribbean, in the Golden Age of Sail—and Piracy! Hoist anchors and set sail, because there’s adventure—and treasure—on the horizon.
Roles:
Piracy
A. Ship captain, of course, would you be found anywhere else? Command and the sea, those are your callings. Along with, of course, plunder.
B. Quartermaster, elected representative of the crew’s interests, and with power to veto the Captain’s decisions whenever the ship is not engaged in battle.
C. Crew. You’re in it for the plunder, and can’t be bothered with those pesky decisions. Unless, just maybe, you’ve got a mutiny in mind.
D. Cabin boy. Lowest in rank and newest on the ship, without any sailing experience of your own, but you’ll work your way up.
E. Stowaway. Whatever ship you’re on, whatever reason you have for running, you’d better hope you aren’t found.
The Law
F. Pirate-hunter. Maybe you’re working freelance, taking bounties where you find them, or maybe you are an officer of a royal navy, but either way, you’re tasked with bringing those lawless pirates to justice. There’s money in it, and glory for you.
G. Governor. You are the law, in your little corner of the Caribbean. Troops from the homeland, money and resources are yours, but anarchy is just one mistake away, and the pirates are always threatening your ships and those of your traders.
H. Honest sailor. You follow orders and don’t ask too many questions about them. Or the cargo.
I. Innocent Passenger. Honestly, you were just trying to get home, or to your new home in the new world. But now? Pirates.
Land-Lubbers
J. Innkeeper or Brothel Madam. When the pirates and sailors come into town, they’re going to need food, drink, and companionship. You’re here to provide that.
K. Shipwright. Ships and repairs, it’s all your business. You’re willing to serve any customer, and you don’t ask too many questions.
L. Wildcard! Who would your character be in the Golden Age of Sail?
Mix and match, pirates and pirate hunters, raid a ship or follow a map to treasure. Go get that horizon!

Of course, he was still vigilant - there could be a Sea King beneath the ship, or an enemy ship off in the distance - but for now, he was content to keep the Thousand Sunny on course towards its next destination, and let the others take a well-earned break.
As he continues to keep the ship on course towards their next destination, Jinbei starts humming a familiar tune before cutting himself short, a little embarrassed.]
...Great, now he's got me doing it. [He was never a huge fan of the song, given its association with piracy and his dislike of pirates outside of the Straw Hats, Whitebeard Pirates, and Fisher Tiger, but he had to admit it was catchy.]

sorry for the wait!
But it was a long sea journey, and he was growing bored, so when he spotted the elven woman one overcast day standing at the ship's rail, he decided he no longer cared what was wise.
Mishal approached slowly, his footsteps announcing his presence, and came up beside her. He was of average height, but solidly muscular, a powerful build made even more apparent by his lack of armor, but his most remarkable features were without a doubt, his hair and eyes, the former a fiery (sometimes literally) red, and eyes a brilliant green.
"A copper for your thoughts, my lady?"
His expression was open and friendly, but there was a wicked curve to his lips as he regarded her.
Re: sorry for the wait!
"My thoughts cost a fair bit more than that." She replies, in a tone that suggests she's joking, in her own sardonic fashion.
She'd contracted with the pirates to take her to the archipelago where their kind were wont to gather. Things could be bought and sold and sought there more readily than the mainland. And it wouldn't hurt to disappear for a while, after her last endeavor had ended in several people dead by her own hands, as well as those under her influence. She had taken some things she intended to fence in the pirate ports, then visit suppliers of the more outré goods she used in her work.
"But, if you're desperately curious, I was hoping we'd sight land soon. I don't much care for feeling like a sad speck in an empty void."

He took the opportunity to study the woman more closely. She was very beautiful. Most elves were. But she wasn't as fresh faced and young looking as he was accustomed to seeing in other members of his race. Rather she appeared a bit older, and he could only conclude that that meant she was old indeed even for an elf.
"I do apologize for not introducing myself earlier. My name is Mishal el Bane." He bowed, a practiced gesture betraying his noble background, which was somewhat incongruous with the simple clothing he wore as a servant of the church. Simple but fine if one went to the trouble of looking closer. The Church of Bane didn't concern itself with vows of poverty. "I believe we are bound for the same destination."

Eligre had turned it on them, however. She adopted the surname which translated to "carrion bird" and doubled down on her harsh command and cruelty. Wherever Eligre followed the warlord in his campaigns, Death went with her and the crows grew fat and glossy on the corpses of the battlefield dead.
"I hope we're going the same way or you've wasted a lot of time." She snorts, gaze shifting back to the sea. "Though I am surprised to see a cleric bound for such lawless shores."

Ah, but then she hadn't seen him in his armor. Thus attired, holy symbol prominently displayed, the god he worshiped would have been obvious. But Mishal had opted not to wear it while on board the ship. Wearing full plate at sea seemed too much like asking to sink to the bottom of the ocean.
He smiled in understanding, then plucked the chain around his neck and drew the amulet with the image of the Black Hand stamped on it out, letting it fall over the fabric of this tunic. "All gods have their clerics, my lady Crow, and not all of them goodly."

Eligre is indifferent to gods. If one were to serve her purpose, she might deign to genuflect to one or two as it suited her. As that is an especially dangerous game to play, she'd not pursued it. Especially as her path had been somewhat derailed for a while by a humiliating mistake of pride on her part.
"Work or play?" She asks, arching a thin, sharp eyebrow at him.

And he did so enjoy punishing the enemies of his god. The fools in question were slated for death the moment they defected from Bane to a rival god. Normally such a crime would have them brought back alive so the high torturers might have their way with them, but Mishal had been given special dispensation to punish them however he pleased.
"They know someone will come for them," he added, explaining why he wasn't more secretive. "They've run out of places to run."

She does not flinch at the glow of sadistic pleasure in his eyes. She knows it well enough.

The cleric wasn't unscathed. His time as a novice had been rife with important lessons. He had learned loyalty and obedience. The macabre beauty of the lines of scarification on his back, obviously deliberate, his initiation to the order, was proof enough of that.
"But it's punishment that I will likely be dispensing in this matter. I have always been more at home on the battlefield."

"Pain can be many things, though the lessons it teaches last a lifetime." She mused. She felt a pang in her stomach, a memory like the twist of a knife.
