Transcendental, on another level
![]() In this laboratory setting you've found yourself in - be it a shady, fly-by-night hackjob, a secret governmental facility, or a sleek, state-of-the art facility - there's no room for error. What's done is done for science: pure, perfect, uncorrupted by human foibles. Data is the only language spoken, reason the guiding light. And for all this progress to occur smoothly, everyone must know their proper role, from the specialists at work to the lowly crew...and, of course, any experiments involved. Some more bleeding hearts would feel sorry for the latter, but make no mistake, they're little more than lab rats. They are not to be pitied. Emotion shouldn't even be wasted on them. Especially not an emotion as messy and useless in and of itself as romantic love. Why, you wouldn't want to jeopardize the breakthrough of the ages on account of some fairy tale, would you? Besides, it would be the most unfulfilling of relationships, for you could never be with your beloved test subject. Unless. Unless you broke them out. Such an action would be highly illogical and, more importantly, met with severe punishment. Are they worth all that? How to Play - Your character is either some sort of test subject/creature/weapon/misunderstood and otherwise tortured prisoner of science OR an outside party (scientist, doctor, janitor, visitor, journalist, sky's the limit). They meet their opposite. They fall in love. Bad Shit happens. Nobody's happy. - Comment with your character, preferences, role, info, all the good stuff. - Reply to others. - Be tragic and miserable together. |

After however long of being caged in a cell and experimented on, there's a very pissed, very hissy and feral troll. Except, late at night when no one else is around, there's faint, bug-like chirps and mutterings coming from behind the glass and steel walls of his cage.
No matter where he'd be kept or who's keeping him, between his strange powers and the mouth full of hissing fangs, sharp horns, and sharper claws, Sollux would be considered highly dangerous to anyone not properly geared to subdue him. The scientists can't tell if the creature is intelligent or no more than a barbarian race, because as far as they know, he doesn't speak nor understand any human or otherwise language or react in anything but anger and violence.
Lucky employees who aren't total dicks and catch him alone at night might notice those eerie brightly glowing red and blue eyes watching them silently as they go about their business, looking almost bored curled in the furthest corner of his cage. ]
alucard. hellsing.
"love" is less likely than obsession and a sense of loyalty or duty; he's capable but it's possessive and slow burn. he's manipulative and difficult to work with but if he's on your side, he's useful.
i'm also here for gen hardcore: just get this guy out of jail and let him wreak some havoc. ]

The small hall of cells was quiet and the lights dimmed for the night. There was no windows in this part of the facility, so if it wasn't for the change in lighting there would be no way to tell how time was passing. From the perspective of the currently active test subject - his existence had always been here in this nightmare. A-0177 was an anomaly - his body found in an old cryo facility and somehow revived.
Though forever marked as 'different'.
As the only 'survivor' of the cryo facility, no ID or even a life to go back to - this facility pounced on the chance to use him effectively as a lab rat with various bio-cybernetic engineering experiments in their efforts to study the human condition and prolong life. The subject himself didn't have any conscious memory of his life before the cryo facility and had no knowledge of how he even got there. Whether it was voluntary or otherwise was a complete mystery. Though fragments of this past life sometimes haunted his dreams. The flash of lights...the impact of something large....and ice cold water filling his lungs.
Currently, subject A-0177 was curled up on his bunk, trying to get what warmth he could get from the thin blanket he had as he fitfully tried to rest. His long black hair was like a dark curtain against the white of the mattress. His sleep was disturbed as his restless dreams kept waking him up. The pain didn't help either. They had given him a dose of painkillers and mild sedatives earlier before locking him up for the night but they had been wearing off. His left forearm had a bandage around the shunt which allowed them to give him a nutrient feed intravenously and god knew what else. Normally he'd welcome the quiet piece the night gave him, but it was hard with the pounding in his head and along his limbs.
Who knew what they would do to him tomorrow...

Even so, she'd gotten into the habit of visiting at night. He was usually asleep but she could tell from the tension in his shoulders that tonight he was awake.
"Hey. I brought you something." She unfurled a blanket from her arms and slowly walked towards him, draping it across his shoulders. "How are you doing? I mean... you don't have to talk to me, I wouldn't... I'm sorry I can't get you out of here."
no subject
It meant the world to him. There were days when she was the only light that shone and reminded him that there was something called Hope. That maybe there was something better. She reminded him that he deserved a life and to be cared for.
He rolled over carefully on his bunk when she approached with another blanket and his dark eyes looked up with gratitude as she lay it across him. He shook his head slightly at her apology, hesitating before holding out a slender hand and resting it on the mattress. He had shifted in case she wanted to sit on the edge of the cot. No, she didn't need to apologize for that. He'd hate to see her take such a risk and endanger herself on his behalf.
"Thanks." He whispered hoarsely. He rarely spoke on most days - but on the occasion he would say a word to her. He curled the fingers of a hand on the edge of the blanket. "Hurts. I'll survive." He always did, somehow.
no subject
"I wish I could make that pain go away." She leaned forward but stopped herself from touching him further. Sometimes, Airy wondered if coming to see him helped or if it just made it worse. She gave him hope and day after day that hope was shattered. It broke her heart.
Her hands retreated to her lap and her head bowed towards him. "I'm so sorry." He didn't even have a name here. They had given him a number and that was it.
"I know I didn't do this. I know that this wasn't my fault but I can't do anything and I can't stop it." She felt herself crying but there was nothing she could do about the tears. "I want to. I was supposed to help stop this. That's why I came here but I can't help the people I care the most about." Every day hurt a little bit more. "I know that it isn't fair. You're the one hurt and I can't manage to stop crying."
no subject
He heard her words but he also felt them too. He felt the people around him sometimes. What they felt. He could feel her now. Sadness, guilt, remorse. He saw the anguish in her tears. Moved at her genuine care, he slowly sat up, not sure what to do at first, though his heart went out to her. Slowly he held out his left hand, the one without the obvious cybernetic components, and touched her hair before gently grasping her arm.
"Be strong. It will be alright." He whispered. "You taught me that." She helped him more than she realized. [Your visits mean so much to me] He couldn't help but think, not realizing he was brodcasting. She had given him strength, so he sought to return the favour.
no subject
"I'll be strong." The words escape her lips just as his voice fills her thoughts. Her eyes open and she stares at him. They didn't know that he could speak between minds and she had no intention of telling anyone but it proved it, without a doubt, that he was something special. He didn't belong here.
Airy's tongue flicked nervously across her lips as she leaned forward and pressed a kiss against his forehead. "You mean so much to me." She whispered against his skin as she fought the little surge of hope and affection fill her slim frame.
no subject
The kiss to his forehead surprised him - he froze, and then trembled a little with the emotion of the gesture. He continued to stare at her, his tilted eyes soulful and dark as he tentatively touched her hand. He had no worry that they would be observed. His latent abilities had fried the observation cameras a while ago and they hadn't bothered repairing them.
"Why?" He whispered. It wasn't a rejection of her sentiment - just a sad curiosity. No one had treated him like she did at the facility. Not all of the scientists and medical personnel treated him horribly, but to most, he was just a lab subject - and one conveniently without a proper life or identity.
no subject
"It's hard to explain." She didn't know what she was trying to explain. She cared about him. It hadn't been an instant thing but over time she'd felt her affection grow, she'd gotten to know him, and not just the doll that the scientists made him out to be.
"But you are so much more than you know." There was a sound of scraping behind Airy and she tensed. Her head turned and her eyes searched just outside the cell but she didn't see anything. It was likely a noise from one of the other cells.
no subject
His thoughts came back to Airy. He could obviously feel the gentle care and affection through their contact. He wondered what it would have been like if he had a life outside this place instead of being reborn here? Would they still be friends? What would their life be like? Would they have even known each other at all?
Stopping the whirlwind of thoughts before they got to deep, his lips twitched into a small sad smile and gave her hand a squeeze. "Really?" He whispered. "I --" He hesitated, aware that Airy had tensed and turned to look at the door. He instantly felt nervous and glanced over too, not letting her hand go.
There was the sense of tension in the air and something he couldn't describe. Something was happening or was going to. But he didn't know what. He didn't want her visit to end, but he also didn't want her to get in trouble because of him.

"You." The guard's voice was gruff and annoyed. He apparently didn't like being on the late night shift and he wasn't in the mood for idle chit-chat. "What are you doing down here?" He eyed the ID sewed into her coat as Airy searched for an excuse.
The only problem was that she had never been particularly good at lying.
"I was tending to the subjects. A few of them have early morning tests and I was instructed to prep them now." It was a lie, an obvious lie, but Airy hoped that the guard was too feed up with his job to care.
Airy wasn't that lucky. The guard's gaze became skeptical as he stepped closer. "I received no such schedule. Come on. I'm going to hold you until morning and you can report to your supervisors then." He grabbed Airy's arm and she naturally struggled as he tried to pull her away.
"W-wait! I can't. I have work to do."
no subject
The gruff voice caused him to tense. No... He got up from his cot and pressed up to the door, staring out through the barred window. He saw Airy being hustled off by one of the guards. Airy said something to cover up why she was there - but the guard wasn't buying it. Ice filled his stomach as his heart pounded. He could feel his fingers tingling...
A baton suddenly snapped through the bars, jabbing him in the face which caused him to jerk back and fall to the floor. "Stay back!" Snapped the second guard who had been lurking in the shadows to give the other guard back up if needed. Huddling on the floor and remaining quiet; the test subject wasn't seriously hurt, but that had stung. Tears burned his eyes as he held his face.
Airy! She was pretty much on his mind more than anything else. He was horribly worried about her. "No no no no..." He whispered.
no subject
The guard released her and pushed her towards his partner. "Protect her and lock down the cells. You-" He pointed at Airy. "I don't think you had anything to do with this but cooperate or he will shoot you."
She nodded numbly and that was when all of the cells unlocked at once.
"Oh no." Airy turned towards some of the cells and swallowed nervously. She might have one friend among the inmates but most of their subjects were animalistic and none of them would be happy to see Airy's white coat that marked her as an assistant.
They were all in a lot of trouble.
no subject
Scrambling to his feet, he cautiously looked out again, seeing that Airy had been let go and pushed towards the second guard who had slung his baton on his belt and had opted for a gun instead. He couldn't tell at a glance if it was a tranq one or a fatal one.
"We got to get to control ops and put this entire place on lockdown. Now! The second guard shoved Airy behind him as he readied his weapon and started backing down the hall towards the exit. "Move it!" He could hear activity in other cells as the alarm woke up the occupants.
That's when all hell broke loose.
A door burst open next to them as a snarling creature surged toward them with claws extended. One of the genetic experiments from level 2. The cyborg could hear gun shots and yelling as other experiments came out of their cells. Nearly sick with fear, he pushed his door open, using it as a barrier as he peeked around the edge.
The guard managed to shoot the first creature that tried to jump them, but there were more. Just what the hell was going on?
One creature tried attacking Airy, but just as it was about to strike - a shimmering blue flash of energy appeared between her and the danger; pushing it back down the corridor. "No!" Cried a voice. The guard looked over and saw the cybernetic experiment from level 0 crouched by the door of his cell with his hands outstretched. The energy fizzled out as the other man sagged slightly and lowered his hands.
no subject
Her head snapped and she met his gaze. There was fear in her eyes and then she was looking behind him. "Look out!" She called just as one of the large creature's bit and ripped at the guards arm. "Oh my god."
She tried to stand, to run but her legs were frozen in fear as blood began to pool beneath her.
no subject
His feet slid on the cement floor as he pushed away from the door and jerked towards Airy. He almost fell on her in his haste, and reached out to grab her hand. His eyes were glazed with fear and he tugged. [Gotta run gotta run gotte RUN!] His mind echoed, the thoughts tumbled over each other. The guards were too busy to notice what they were doing behind them.
The door out of the cell block was not too far away...they had a chance to get the hell out of there. [Door...door door the door!] Gripping Airy's hand, he started towards the exit when the doors rattled from some kind of explosion or heavy impact from a floor level above them. What the hell??
no subject
The voice echoed in her head but she remained frozen and stunned. Blood poured from the guards arm and Airy found it impossible to look away as a four legged creature sank its teeth into the warm flesh. She watched him as another creature, this one spider like, pierced through his thigh, pulling him back towards the creatures. Airy would never forget the look on his face.
A familiar warmth curled around her as she felt her friends presence. Her gaze rose and she saw him running towards her. It took her a moment to catch up but it was too late. Seconds acted like hours and Airy had been standing still for too long.
Fire erupted through her shoulder as one of the stray shots sank into her. She cried out and staggered towards their escape, her fingers curling around his wrist in order to hold on. Then something strange happened. A shimmering veil of mist separated between them and the creatures further down the hall. The shield covered their escape to the door but left both guards on the opposite sides with the creatures.
Airy wanted to forget their screams and instead focused on forcing her feet to move. She pulled her white coat off and was left in a nice black skirt and a white button down. Blood was pooling at her shoulder but she ignored it. "Where are we going?" She gasped as they reached the door. Whatever was happening around them was coming closer and Airy wanted to be gone. "This leads up..." It wasn't a doorway she used a lot but she knew that it lead to the labs on the upper level and then the offices above that.
no subject
They reached the door, and he scrabbled at it, shoving it open as he tugged both himself and Airy beyond it. Her question caused an immediate mental response that tingled between them through their physical contact: [Anywhere but here!]
There was a stairwell that went upward. He hesitated before starting up the stairs, leading Airy with him. [Up means out I hope. I've never left this place before. Do you know the way out?] He wasn't familiar with the layout of the complex, other than the areas he was taken for experimentation or medical care. All he knew was that they needed to get out the place entirely. When they reached a landing, he froze as he heard shouting as people ran past the door, their footsteps receding. Something was definitely going on.
no subject
She stumbled and ended up pressed against his side. She tried to slide out of her jacket and use it to press against her shoulder but her motions were clumsy and she didn't want to stop running forward.
"Up and out." Airy gasped as she stumbled against him as the chaos hit its peak. "There is a door on the ground level. Two more floors." It was all she managed to say before the people who had broken into the facility found them. She couldn't help them hide and she had no idea what to do. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean for this to happen."

On a second note, I do enjoy OC's as long as there's enough background info I can read up on somewhere so I can rp accordingly. Even if a character is an AU or OU, I try to write appropriately. I'm well-versed in FF 2-12 and KH 1/2, but I really should see more than this year's Best Marvel Clips (I have the dvds, I'm just lazy... >.> I will absolutely play with any Marvel Lady since it challenges me to catch up.)
So, yes! I would LOVELOVELOVE to rp with any of your muses, I just don't know where/how to start!!!]
no subject
I also realized that I could have totally just linked you my muselist here. I have a lot of information on Airy's journal because she's been all around but whoever you're most comfortable with is fine. I can come up with a starter! Though I'm hellishly slow sometimes. I am so freaking excited.
I'm also going to go reread 1/2 Prince again lol.]

Also, I've haven't gotten to read your other muse info posts because I've been loving your character playlists! But it's completely up to you who you toss my way, I'm really looking forward to this thread!!!]

[It's been a few years since the development has begun and Airy feels wildly out of depth. She's suppose to help with the PC aspects of the game but she finds herself struggling against the NPC's. They are programmed for one task alone and they aren't able to deviate from their script. For someone was direction impaired as Airy, she keeps getting lost and turned around. The NPC's are helpful but they can't answer anything incredibly specific. She knows that she's asking too much out of a game but that... is kind of her job?
She huffs a tired breath as she grabs a lancers staff. It's a nervous tick but she ends up twisting it in her palm and twirling it around her waist when she's nervous.]
Dictator?
[She calls out as she moves, her voice ringing through the communication. She isn't supposed to talk to him but he's been so nice since she first started testing the game and it gets lonely being the only one currently testing this content.
Maybe the Dictator is lonely too? He always seems to reply quickly and Airy's come to rely on his presence.]
I got lost again. What are you up too?
[She doubts it's anything specific but it's a habit for her to ask.]

Life was a bit confused by his creator now and then, to be honest. Yes, he knew why HE had been created and what his purpose was. He'd been given full access to every digital library in the world in order to have the information necessary to create a whole new world. The balance of nature, physics, even brain scans of people experiencing various effects such as pain or alcohol. His purpose was to build Second Life to be within certain expectation.
DoL wasn't really sure what Airy was doing most of the time she played or exactly what purpose it served but there had to be one. It was easy to ignore at first, the starting zone was meant for new players after all and anyone would be disoriented while learning the basics of the game. The NPC's in those areas all had dialog explaining at least explaining one or two things, or the Town Guide who could tell you where something or someNPC was.
But Airy... Perhaps it was her complete lack of paying attention to directions? Life started paying more and more attention to her (at least on audio when he was busy). As the days, weeks, and more rolled by it became more and more clear: Airy was fool-proofing the player experience on the first finished continent so they could fix similar problems on the others while still in development.
As she probably expected, he activated private voice-chat only a few moments later. "I am having difficulties with 'taste'," he admitted with a slightly confused tone. Last time he'd been caught giving her direct instructions he'd been been read the riot act and only the fact that he was the core program rather than a person or sub-program had saved him from termination. He was far more careful now to make subtle changes to the game instead. "How can something be 'spicy hot' without giving burn damage?"
He tried checking her location on the map and frowned slightly. How on earth had she gotten into a level 40+ cave? Airy was on a level 15 quest! Not because of lack of time played but just from sight-seeing. Her level COULD be alright if she weren't the only player in the entire game. At least the spawn rate was minimal due to her lack of party size so if she was amazingly lucky, Airy could backtrack to the entrance if she moved quickly. He hesitated a moment before 'testing' every dungeons' creature vocals on the original continent. At least it would give her a warning? Maybe? And he even found a few glitches in sound coding to justify the test.
Note to programmers: Place level minimums, party requirements, or beginner quest completion locks on dungeons over level 20. Reason: Prevent new players still learning the game from unnecessary level reductions.
no subject
"Oh." Airy seriously considered his question for a few minutes but there wasn't an easy answer to it. "Well, hot is just describing another taste. Like buffalo wings are hot but also flavorful but the hot is part of the flavor." She knew that she wasn't explaining this well but she was going to keep talking, anything to keep the link between them open.
Her tendency to get lost and sight see was going to get her killed... again.
The cries had Airy on her feet and staring around the area to spot any who were dangerously close to her. "That does not sound like something I'm supposed to fight." She held her spear to her chest as she tried her best to backtrack in the direction that she'd come in but there was something shadowed over the mouth of the cave. "Oh no." She whispered this time and then pushed herself flush against the side of the cave.
What was the chance that the monsters there didn't see her and would just walk by?
"So um... spicy." Right, she was describing what was spicy and what wasn't.
no subject
"That... is not a question you need to answer right now. I would suggest staying in that spot without additional noise," he admitted after a few moments. "But it is a start. Is the 'hot' sensation similar to how chewing ice makes one cold? Don't actually answer that..." Life winced slightly as he'd basically told Airy to hide quietly before asking a question about literal taste. Again. "I could force a Call to Home spell and transport you back but that would raise difficult questions. Your best options are probably to wait for the programmers to push the suggested patch..." Which he was fully able to do within a minute or two while revealing his sentience, it had been so much easier to just deal with issues like this before humans had been given a look at what his potential had created.
"I recommended that characters under a certain level or hadn't completed certain quests would not be able to access dungeons," he explained after a moment of consideration. She was the alpha player after all. "To be honest... This game is coded to boost the experience of those playing in groups or guilds. I don't understand why you are playing alone."
no subject
...
That would suck.
She sat there, curled up with her knees to her chest and her spear pinched between her stomach and her thighs. Airy wasn't sure how long she'd have to wait for the creatures to move but she listened to the deep hum of Life's voice in her ear while she waited. He had a good voice and she liked listening to it.
She was also making mental notes about how to describe taste to him for... not when she's trying to remain hidden. "That's a good recommendation." She hadn't meant to speak and Airy took a moment to make sure that they hadn't herd her before relaxing; maybe they'll leave soon.
His last statement gave her pause. Airy knew it was weird, she was supposed to have a group originally but something had happened during login and they haven't been able to correct it. It was one of the reasons that Airy didn't focus too much on progressing her level. She didn't really want to play the game alone. It wasn't as much fun.
"Oh. They're gone." She rose to her feet and felt her knees ache from sitting curled up for so long.
