So this is what the depths of hell are like. There are only two things Sypha wants when she wakes. One is for the sun to stop shining in through the drapes at her. In her mind she's moving faster than she actually is, one hand clawing for a pillow in slow desperation and finally putting it firmly over her face to block out all light, though not before she cracks an eye open and sees Trevor.

The other thing she wants is for her head to stop swimming every time she makes the slightest movement, and that's a problem she only comes close to solving by staying as still as possible.

She groans. "This is further proof that God hates me."

Hastily, he pulled his hand back, holding his breath as he warily opened his eyes, ready to invoke his crimson rite on whatever improvised weapon was in reach.
