They're absolutely brimming with potential; even if you're the only one, you see it in them. This means it falls upon your shoulders to teach them, to bridle that ability and mold them in the fashion you deem worthy - for good or for gain. In your eyes, they're a project, your muse... ...something precious, so much so that your feelings for them might be a bit muddled. Weapon, student, tool, prodigy, responsibility, lover: which came first, which rings truest? When the lines get darker and blurrier is when there's a difference in age, experience, power, or other inequalities present. Does your conscience weight too heavily to ever act on your deeper-seeded feelings? Your goals may be too lofty to risk. Or, you may just give in.

It's probably not even fair to the other students. He's been practicing ice elemancy since he was a kid, taking a shine to it early on and only increasing his abilities throughout his teenage years. Now he's getting ready to graduate, and, well... Mr. Scientia is hardly older than him.
So he wants to impress him. A lot.
Maybe freezing the entire classroom hadn't been the right way to do that, however.
So now he's sitting in Mr. Scientia's office serving 'detention' by helping him grade papers for one of his other classes. As far as Jack is concerned, this is actually the best use of his time because it lets him be closer to his teacher. ]
Hey, so. Has the classroom melted yet?
[ Yes, good. Make small talk about the reason he's being punished in the first place. ]

Jack's power- his talent was beyond anything he'd seen, and it made very little sense to him to punish talent or power. The act of detention had only been because he had to do something- as well as the fact that he wanted to learn more about his student and where exactly his skill came from.
He looks up from his papers, passing Jack another small pile of them.]
No. But I have a feeling you knew that already, hm?
[ He moves his elbow to the table, resting his chin on the back of his fingers.]
You have quite the gift, you know.

[ But considering how powerful that magic had been, he isn't surprised to hear the classroom is still frozen. Punished for it or not, Jack can't help but feel proud of himself.
And judging by Mr. Scientia's reaction, he really is impressed. ]
I... I've been working really hard on it.
[ He smiles widely while accepting the small pile of papers. His attention is fully on his teacher, however; how attractive he looks when he's intrigued, with his eyes sharp behind those glasses. ]
I'm hoping to join the army after I graduate.
[ What better career for use of his talents? He... isn't exactly academic, so this seems to make the most sense. ]

[It's a bit of a strange position to be in, to be frank- elbows on your student's desk and meeting him with a level gaze- his intrigue as well as the fact it's just them making the normal barriers around his conduct toward his students withdraw, just a little. But Jack is barely anything like the others who falter even at the most basic magic, forget things, shrink at the face of anything more complex than simply stabbing something until it was dead.
His power, at the very least with ice, is extraordinary, and even though strictly speaking, you're not supposed to have favourites, he's worth breaking that rule.]
The military, or rather- the Crownsguard- have the responsibility of protecting the citizenry. You shall have to attain the same level of skill at the other elements...
[What could be said. He'd noticed Jack's Fire and Thunder schools weren't that hot.]
... but I have every faith that if you apply the same level of dedication to them, you'll be accepted without so much as a pause. They'll be lucky to have you.

[ Jack certainly hopes he'll be accepted easily into the military, but the truth is... he's awful when it comes to fire elemancy.
It just figures, doesn't it? ]
I was wondering if you would be willing to, um, tutor me on fire.
[ He knows Mr. Scientia is a busy man, but maybe he'd be willing, for a student who has shown a great deal of promise? ]
I've had very little luck practicing it on my own. I need some extra help.
[ He leans forward a little on his desk, the two of them quite a bit closer to one another than before. Jack smiles 'innocently,' the papers on the other side of the desk momentarily forgotten. ]

That would not be something which could happen within a classroom. Especially not with the magical energy Jack had displayed with ice. If he managed to harness it well enough to do something similar with fire, then... well. The result would barely need pointing out.
Only the wastelands would do (who would notice another crater anyway?), and even then, the school's administration would never allow it. Jack, for all of his talent, was only a child and the wastelands were dangerous. Not to mention it would require a weekend. Going after school was too dangerous.]
...Hm.
[His pause is marked, interrupted only by the sound of someone, in the frozen classroom next to the one they're in, the faint sound of picks attempting to chip through the ice.
Still. it would be worse- far worse- unforgivable even- to allow an administration's rules to let such potential waste away. He knows that all too well.]
I would be pleased to. I trust you are aware of what telling others will do though?
[His own history or not, he's well aware that any rumour of a teacher spending free time with a student has consequences. Severe ones.]
no subject
So when Mr. Scientia agrees to tutor him, Jack grins with barely contained excitement. ]
I won't tell a soul. Promise.
[ He knows it doesn't matter if he isn't actually a child anymore. He's still a student, and Ignis is still his teacher. There are certain rules, levels of decorum that are expected of them.
But Jack has never been good at following the rules, either. ]
When can we do this?
[ He's already readying any excuses he'll have to offer his parents. That part won't be difficult at all. It's the actually spending time alone with Mr. Scientia for an extended period of time and not giving away his crush that'll be the difficult part. ]
no subject
Not this weekend, but the next. How do you feel about Saturday morning?
[It would be simple enough. Meet with him away from where he lived, drive him through the gates, go a few miles from the city, away from any roads, and (hopefully) incinerate some monsters.
He moves his gaze to Jack, expectantly.]
no subject
[ Jack then looks a bit mortified by how excited he sounded, and tries to put it behind him by pulling out his phone as well.
They're going to be exchanging numbers, ...right? ]
I mean, that works for me.
[ He goes into contacts, expectantly as well. It'd be amazing to have Ignis' phone number, even if it's just for the sake of tutoring. Who knows, maybe something could come of it later on?
He's probably just dreaming. Still... ]
What's your number?
no subject
That was as unexpected as the yell- and while goodwill and more-than-slight favoritism had allowed him to already take a large amount of risk, he was far from a fool.]
I hardly think that appropriate. [He states, seeing no reason to lie. He stands straight, placing his phone in his back pocket once more.] On the day, I'll meet you at dawn by the west exit. I hope you'll find that suitable?
