Their relationship had been purely professional at first. The infamous American fire-and-ice mage, Harry Dresden, had stumbled into Anne Walker's makeshift clinic in England looking more than a little worse for wear, and Anne had patched him up. It wasn't her fault that, as a life mage, her version of 'patching up' was more of a 'laying on of hands,' and it would have been virtually impossible for him to hide any sort of physical reaction from her that he might have to being touched. Or that stubborn, older men who were basically clueless about how to interact with a woman who wasn't trying to kill him were exactly her type.

It did mean she was probably going to have to be the one to make the first move, but she was okay with that. She was just waiting for the opportune moment.

Another day, another wound. Harry was used to it, and used to having to find covert ways of getting patched up. Not every hospital was prepared for spell damaged wizards, after all, and he was out of his element, being in England. Usually, he only used a clinic once, then moved on. Safer that way.

But he had been in England for a while now, almost a year, and he kept finding his way back to this same clinic. Something, or someone, drew him back. Could be the safe space, could be the efficient care. Could maybe be the beautiful doctor. He had definitely noticed her, a few times, when he wasn't too out of it to care. Because wow.

This time was no different. A cave troll had been haunting a nearby town, driven by old grudges and by a bad tooth. He had stopped it, even without killing it! And gotten it sent to a preserve where it could live out its days peacefully. But it had gotten in a few good licks along the way. His whole back was a mess of red and slashes, really, but he could walk, and did, right into the clinic, before falling over.

Anne's mage sense alerted her to Harry's presence as he approached her door, and to the extent that he was injured. Not that she couldn't have guessed as much without using her Life Sight, since she didn't get many other visitors, but she liked to be prepared. Just because you were paranoid didn't mean there wasn't a Death Mage waiting to devour your lifeforce.

Given the choice, Anne preferred the former.

"Don't tell me," she said, rushing to support him as quickly and carefully as she could manage. "I should see the other guy?"

As a knight in the Order of Bahamut, being assigned to serve alongside dragons wasn't very strange. Even swearing his oaths to serve his brother in the name of their god wasn't a guarantee that he wouldn't be partnered with some young dragon to seek out evil and help the populace. Hells, it was why Nero joined up to begin with.

Theo was an odd assignment, though. Not that he was cruel or particularly un-draconic (Nero didn't really have reference to what other dragons should be like, beyond heroic tales and legends), but he certainly was... Something else. He rarely saw the silver in his true form. And they weren't on some grand quest for honor or even obscure knowledge.

Really, he couldn't discern the reasons for Theo's travels. But he was definitely good company, and the places they tracked, Nero would help where he could, if his face wasn't instantly recognized.

There were times, too, at inns when neither felt like putting on airs, or at some Lord's table when they did, that Nero would let himself wander and indulge in the attraction he felt for Theo.

Tonight was actually in Nero's own estate, the two rooming up in Nero's apartments. He'd moved off to handle the affairs that he was still responsible of and let Theo have the run of his home. When he was done, he followed the draw of his magic until he knew exactly where Theo was and knocked on the door separating them, serving tray in hand and a smile on his face.

"I had to talk my steward out of a feast," Nero informed him as he gingerly closed the door behind him. "But he still had the kitchens make us something good enough for our first night back." He grimaced a little sourly but shrugged, taking in the room. "I'm still not convinced that he's not going to be sending servants up with more."
