It happens to everyone - sometimes, you have nights where you just can't fall asleep, no matter what you do. It could be for a number of reasons, or no reason at all. And this is what's happened now: you've been laying in bed for what feels like hours, just tossing and turning, and nothing seems to help. So what's left to do? Get out of bed and go wake someone else up, of course. If you're not getting any sleep, then why should they?
i n s t r u c t i o n s • Post with your character (note the name and fandom in the subject). • Other people reply to you by generating a number from 1 to 10. • Have fun!
o p t i o n s 01 • FEAR. Maybe you're hearing strange, indeterminable noises; maybe there's a severe storm happening outside; maybe you watched a scary movie before bed? Whatever the reason, you're terrified and it's keeping you awake. You just want to wake someone else up so they can protect you from the monster in your closet. 02 • HUNGER. Your stomach is growling and it just won't stop. Or perhaps your throat is so dry you could cough up a tumbleweed? Well, you've gone to the kitchen to remedy this and hey, that was a pan that just dropped on the floor. It was loud enough to wake the dead! Oops. 03 • PAIN. Your body is completely worn out, be it from exercise, battle, sickness, or what have you. Either way you're in enough pain to keep you from sleeping, so maybe someone else has a home remedy or something, or can at least help you take your mind off of it. 04 • SOLITUDE. For some reason, your bed just feels so empty at the moment. You're feeling terribly lonely and really just want someone to keep you company for a while. Maybe it'd be easier to fall asleep if you're with them... 05 • DISCOMFORT. Your room is an oven. Either that or a freezer. Or maybe this bed is just really uncomfortable? Who knows why you can't get to sleep, it feels like it could be anything. Why even bother trying? Maybe someone else can preoccupy you until you feel tired enough to ignore your discomfort. 06 • PENSIVE. Something's on your mind, and no matter how hard you try to focus elsewhere, it's just not going to work. Your body may be tired, but your mind is incredibly busy and it's virtually impossible to get to sleep. Surely, talking it out with someone else will help? 07 • SADNESS. Something terrible has happened that day, perhaps; or you could just be severely depressed. Either way you're trying your hardest not to cry yourself to sleep, and it's not working at all. Better find a way to get it out of your system somehow; you need a shoulder to cry on. 08 • ANGER. You are just... fuming. Who knows why - that annoying dog is barking again, or maybe the people next door are getting busy and keeping you awake. Whatever the reason for your ire is, you'd better put an end to it so you can get some damn rest already! Go wake up a friend so you can complain to them. 09 • RESTLESS. You're far too energetic to sleep right now. Maybe you're just trying to do so out of necessity - you have to be up early tomorrow! But you just don't think you'll be able to fall asleep for a while now, so why waste the time trying to sleep when you could be doing something else? Namely bothering someone else - you're totally jealous because they're getting more sleep than you. 10 • WILDCARD. Choose one of the options above, or make up your own scenario. |

So here he is, at Kureto's door. He's the only one who could get this far without a second glance, somehow, and so he's alone when he raps his knuckles against it, leaning his shoulder into the frame.]
You're awake. [An observation, through the door, before he helps himself and opens it with or without an answer. Everyone else does it to him, it's about time he did it. He doesn't step more than a foot inside, though, tired eyes flicking to wherever Kureto might be.
He doesn't ask, but the implication is there: "Why?" As if it's fair for him, also awake without explanation at 2-something in the morning, to be asking.]

then again, it might make things easier.. and not having to pretend and lie is yet another one of those weird desires of his. ]
You're awake too.
[ just like him, guren looks tired and in dire need of sleep. they have that in common, at least, though kureto wonders why guren isn't in his bed right now. kureto is kept awake by all sorts of thoughts, even though he could really use some rest, but guren? he doubts that someone as lazy - or pretend-lazy - as him would ever pass up the opportunity to sleep. ]
You can have a drink if you come in.
[ because that's what kureto is doing. sitting around and drinking. oh, and reading shitty comics he "borrowed" from seishirou. because wasting time and polluting his mind with third rate entertainment is also a desire. ]
no subject
[So he says, in a quick snap like always, but he's pulling the door shut and coming in despite that. Funny, isn't it!! Don't say a word.
He can't believe he's found Kureto... doing this. It's... funny, almost, seeing him here reading shitty comics like a kid, drinking and staying up too late. Not living and breathing plans? Well, he's sort of in the backseat right now, isn't he. Guren moves close enough to be standing next to wherever Kureto is sitting, staring judgmentally at the choice of comics.]
What the hell are you doing? Making up for your lost childhood? [His hands slip into his pockets so they don't have to busy with anything else, though, hiding from his restless desire to fidget.]
no subject
You could say that. I haven't done any work in days.
[ he slams the comic shut and drops it on the table, before reaching for his glass. the ice cubes in it clink when kureto pulls it over the table, then gestures at guren to take a seat next to him. or more like, he allows him to sit down. he's totally not asking for company. or inviting him to stay for longer. ]
How come you're awake? Are you that worried about me?
no subject
[Guren wishes he could be work free. Even if he gives himself all of this work to begin with. He eyes the seat he's gestured to sit in dubiously for a moment, before he moves over and sits down without a comment on it. He wants to stay, after all. Even if he'll never admit it. So, onto that question.]
In your dreams. [He scoffs, leaning back a little as he eyes that glass.] Unlike you, I've got things to do. I was patrolling.
[Not true, actually. He was wandering aimlessly, it's the dead of the night-morning and this facility is secure and guarded. He knows Kureto knows that, too. But Guren is always about trying to look confident and cool despite all of that, anyway. Quietly, his eyes flick back over, at Kureto's face, studying him without trying to make it apparent.]
You're... what, focusing on your desires? [Feeding the demon helps, after all, and the last he heard, that was the rough goal. So Kureto's job was literally to just do whatever the fuck he wanted to... Ideal.]
no subject
[ not like he cares.. he takes a sip from his glass, before leaning back in his chair. it's nice spending time like this, doing whatever comes to his mind and fulfills some sort of long suppressed desire. as it turns out, small things can be powerful in numbers. he regularly checks with raimeiki whether what he's doing right now is right, and so far he seems to be doing a good enough job. considering the whole situation they're in, that is. ]
It's not like I can do anything else.
[ he's not going to comment on the fact that guren is patrolling for no reason.. instead, he picks up the comic he's been reading, so guren can see the cover. it seems to be some typical shounen series. ]
I've been reading garbage all day and my dinner was pancakes with chocolate sauce. Did you enjoy your broccoli?
[ because that's what they served at the canteen today, didn't they.. kureto always hated that broccoli, but he took it like a champ because that's what a leader does. eating his veggies. ]
no subject
[That cover, god. Does Shinya know this? He's never going to let him live it down, for as long as he can get away with making fun of him without getting murdered. Guren, meanwhile, can't help but laugh shortly, rolling his eyes at the broccoli comment and waving it away with a hand.]
Shut up already. [For all his short smiles and joking around to help out, his eyes are tired. More than before. That other personality of his takes up more and more time, not that anyone else can tell the difference, and he's taking every extreme step to protect his own heart from being lost completely.
It's exhausting. It's completely exhausting, and now Kureto is in trouble too. He sighs, leaning back and running a hand through his hair. Maybe he really should have a drink.]
You really are a pain in the ass. [Just out of nowhere, he says this, dropping his hand away and looking to him as his hair falls back in his face.] What else do you desire right now?
[A question he never thought he'd ask.]
no subject
Hmm..
[ there's so many things he wants, really, but it's hard to tell them apart from real desires. it's no wonder he has to check back with raimeiki several times a day to make sure that what he's doing is the right thing. ]
Company. I was feeling a bit lonely, actually.
[ time to take a sip from his drink, because saying that out loud is embarrassing, even for kureto, who has to deal with embarrassing situations more than enough now. though to a normal human being, his 'embarrassing' desires don't count as such at all. it's just him being too stuck up to be honest about his real feelings. ]
What about your desires?
no subject
[He doesn't sound surprised, even when he asks it, though. And he's not. His eyes settle on Kureto for some time as he considers it. He's sure it's hard to say; it has to be.
The question gets turned on him, though, and Guren looks surprised before that annoyed sort of embarrassment sets in.]
What about my desires? I don't need help with that, remember? I give in to them all the time. Isn't that why you've called me weak? [How about that now, huh!!]
no subject
I remember.
[ way to burn him for what he said in the past.. it's like when someone brings up a particularly corny speech to the soldiers way later, and kureto wants to die of embarrassment. of course he always keeps a straight face instead of letting it show how he really feels. ]
I just figured it would be convenient if we both had the same desires at the same time.
[ not like he's suggesting anything.. ]
no subject
Guren stares at him for a long moment, then reaches to pick up Kureto's glass... and drink the rest of it.]
Like what?
[That's all he offers, setting the glass down like he didn't just do something that could probably get literally anyone else in this army killed, like he wasn't showing that he was perfectly comfortable right now. His mind is busy, buzzing with the ideas of what Kureto could mean, because surely what it sounds like can't be it at all.]
no subject
Who knows. There's a lot of things we could do together.
[ like getting drunk. or high. actually, now that kureto thinks about it, why hasn't doing drugs ever crossed his mind.. he's the most influential man around, surely he could ask some doctors to give him some pills. he should note that down for later. ]
Now, don't make me tell you to get your mind out of the gutter.
no subject
[Guren's retort is immediate, even if it doesn't have a lot of heat behind it. If anything, he eyes Kureto for a moment, then leans back in his seat with a sigh. It's a joke, after all, right? That's all he can take it as. But... A lot of things they could do together, huh... As if things were that simple. He kind of wished they were. Like hell he's going to say anything like that, though.]
How about a game? [A drinking game could work, he guesses.]
no subject
[ definitely not, but pulling guren's leg is just too much fun. and kureto can finally allow himself to be a little bit silly, so why not take advantage of that? who knows when he'll get another opportunity to do so. after all, their problem with the demon might get resolved sooner or later and then his fun times will be over..
kureto already dreads it. just a tiny bit. he'd never admit it out loud, obviously. ]
Sounds good to me. What do you have in mind?
