Current incarnation is, of course, still a baseball-playing high school student with a sweet eyepatch and an attitude problem, but for the sake of the meme has been named Tojiro in this lifetime. Open to pretty much anything - fellow historically accurate samurai reincarnated into characters from other canons entirely, souls he may have met in any of his other lives over the last 400 years, you name it.]

[ Yoshiharu Mikumo seems to have it together. His grades are high. He participates in the school newspaper. He has an easy going, caring personality. The only trouble he gets up to are common high school hi-jinks, nothing that would get him suspended or thrown in jail. Yoshiharu flies under the radar most of the time. There are other students that need the attention; he's fine on his own.

The truth is... Yoshiharu is miserable. During the late hours of the day, when the shadows stretch impossible lengths, Yoshiharu feels hollow. Something's missing in his life. Hell if he knew what that thing was, though. If he did, he'd be out searching. The empty ache has haunted him his entire life.

For now, Yoshiharu searches for something else entirely. He just got a group assignment and was tasked with the duty of tracking everyone down. Those in his grade were easy to find. Yoshiharu knew who they were. Other students are harder to find because they are either above or below his year. That's how he ended up at the baseball field and calling out to a group of players. ]

Coffee. Coffee coffee coffee. Twenty-seven hours into this route and he's about to die. Shouldn't have passed those last two stops on the turnpike, but he just wanted to make his delivery and get it done with. And he did. All the boxes of tomatoes are where they belong, and this little coffee shop is the first place he saw that might stop him from driving straight into the next highway divider. And it's clearly way, way too cool for him, and unpleasantly crowded. He really should just go drink it in the truck, but he feels back enough about taking up so much of the parking lot with his long distance hauler. He doesn't want to sit in the cab and feel judged for it. Not that it feels like anyone here won't be able to make him as inconsiderate trucker guy. Might as well be wearing a sign.

There's a reason Bodhi chose a career that leaves him quietly alone for days at a time. Put him in an unfamiliar crowd and this is what he spends his mental energy on.

Clutching a large black coffee with two extra shots of espresso and the biggest muffin they had, he eventually has to admit that a spot by himself is not going to appear. The whole little cafe is full. He settles almost at random on which unused chair he's going to ask for, not really wanting to talk to anybody. The guy about his age with the computer doesn't have anything special about him besides being closest when Bodhi gives up. "Sorry do you mind if I sit across here?" The words run together a little. He just needs the chair across the table long enough for the caffeine to kick in.

[ when oda got up today, even sensei looked up from his usual spot in what seemed to be surprise. it's not like oda to wake up so early, especially not without the cat sitting on his chest and staring at him until he gets up to feed him. is today a special day? is it someone's birthday?

no, not really. it's the weekend, yes, and oda doesn't have to work, but that's a pretty normal thing. for some reason he feels especially energized today, and while he doesn't understand why that is, he won't complain. quite the opposite: he puts that energy into very important things, like feeding sensei before he can make a fuss, throwing some laundry into the machine, and then preparing breakfast. like, a real breakfast, not just toasted bread.

once everything is set on the table - rice, fish, vegetables, some miso soup, a few side dishes - he returns to the bedroom and sits down on the edge of the mattress. ]

[ oda's voice is quiet, barely above a murmur, as he begins to brush back some of dazai's bangs. how peculiar for him to have such deep sleep for once. usually it's the mere sound of cat paws on kitchen tiles that manage to wake dazai up, but today he seems deaf even to the sound of oda banging stuff around in the kitchen. oh well, that means oda's lovingly prepared breakfast will be an actual surprise for once. ]

( For shippy undertones, I have a few ideas for this in a modern setting:
Ravus as a successful businessman opposite a coffee shop barista, artist or even someone in the same field but in another firm/could even be his subordinate. Either a young professor or teacher's assistant at a college or university opposite one of his or another faculty's student/could also be another professor or even speaker or visitor. A car accident with losing his arm could trigger the memories for him as well as having dreams/nightmares which are more shattered pieces of a picture he can't put together.

Preference for m/m if shippy but otherwise ota and always open to other ideas. )
