The Forbidden Lovers Meme

It's only natural to long for a perfect love story. Few things feel as fulfilling as a relationship where the other person will always listen to you, sex is always good and happiness always seems to be one word away.

But it's not so simple in your case, is it? Because no matter how nice and happy your relationship is, the truth is that nobody else wants it to continue. Either you come from rival factions or pursue a relationship that is taboo or illegal, but this little bubble of happiness you're currently sharing would infuriate anyone who might find out about it.

That's all right, though, isn't it? As long as you have each other, you can make this meeting wonderful regardless of what everyone else thinks.

  • Post your character and their basic information to the meme. Feel free to either set a scenario or leave your comment blank and open for one.
  • Your character and the commenter are now engaged in a very bad romance! This is their first meeting after a long while, so sparks are definitely going to fly.
  • But what about the details of their relationship? For that, you can either decide on your own or head to Random.ORG and roll for one of the following options! First, roll for the kind of relationships they have:

1. Keeping it in the Family: It's not unusual for siblings to love each other, or for parents to love their children. What's unusual is when you love each other too much, even if you have the excuse of not being related by blood.

2. Pay for Play: Your relationship wasn't built on love. It might be that one of you needed money and the other was willing to pay for a pretty face and a few wild nighs. It can be that one of you has something that allows them to blackmail the other into being their obedient toy. Whichever the case, there came a point where this relationship became too important for your lives to let go.

3. Rival factions: You might be coming from families that have been at each other's throats for generations, two rival corporations or two kingdoms at war. Or it might be the law that keeps you apart; a cop and a criminal is hardly a decent pair, after all. Whichever the case, you must be stealthy about this or the wrath of both your sides will fall upon you.

4. Balance of Power: One of you is enjoying a very different social standing from another. It might be that one of you is richer than rich and another is poorer than poor. Or it could be that one lover's standing is far above the other's, like that of a master and a servant or a soldier and a general. Of course, nobody expects this to work out. Even fewer would approve of it.

5. A Pair of Cheaters: One or both of you are stuck in another relationship, either out of convenience or because of love that cooled a long time ago. You know what you're doing is wrong and hurtful, but it's too late to stop. This relationship is the only thing that gets you off anymore.

6. Immoral and Illegal: Your relationship isn't just wrong, it might get you into serious trouble. Whether you are a teacher flirting with their student or a nun breaking her vow of celibacy to be seduced by a handsome friend, the slightest hint of being discovered will ruin your life forever. Problem is, you're far too involved to stop.

7. Toxic Relationship: One of you is clearly bad for each other. They might be a delinquent, a criminal or something else, but the number of bad habits they're bringing into your life is ridiculous. You should be stopping. Now, if only you wouldn't enjoy the chaos they're bringing into your life so much.

8. Stockholm Syndrome: It's not a relationship at all. One of you is keeping the other against their will; either as a political prisoner, a kidnapping victim waiting for a ransom or plain an unwilling toy. At some point, the relationship reached the point where the lines became blurred and you're no longer sure if you want to be rescued from this supposed hell.

  • Done choosing? Good. Now roll the numbers again and decide on the circumstances behind your meeting:

1. First Time for Everything: Your relationship has been going for some time, but this is the first time you decided to let it advance into the bedroom. One or both of you might be nervous, but it's fine. This step should have been made a while ago.

2. A Usual Rendezvous: The relationship is now at the point where meeting up for sex whenever you're feeling safe and bored is a common affair. The world outside might hate you for this, but it's nothing compared to the routine of your relationship.

3. Ironic Jealousy: Oh my! One of you have seen the other in the hands of another. It doesn't matter if this "another" is their rightful partner, their spouse or whatever else. You belong to each other, so there's nothing wrong in getting jealous and a little rough for it.

4. Doubts and Hesitation: No matter how good your relationship is, it's wrong and one of you has been feeling that much more deeply these days. It's time for a confrontation - either you spend one last night before breaking up or one manages to convince the other that this whole thing must continue.

5. Caught in the Act: You've been doing your best to hide, but it didn't take you far. Someone saw you and it's only a matter of time before the whole world knows about your affair. Do you separate in order to satisfy everyone else? Or do you recklessly discard your old lives for the sake of forbidden love?

6. After Separation: Due to the constant pressure on your relationship, you decided to separate and lead your own lives. For better or worse, it takes you only so far. A chance meeting sends you into each other's arms and leaves you wondering why you broke up in the first place.

7. Happily Ever After: A lot of people protested against your union, but you never let it stop you. Now you're either leading a new life away from everything that forced you away from each other, or you convinced the world that this is what's right for you. Tonight is the night of celebration and not leaving each other's arms, no matter what.

[ Premise in a nutshell: Steve fell from the train instead of Bucky. Reverse their roles; Bucky got frozen and came out Captain America to carry on his friend's legacy, and Steve was found by the Russians and became the killer Winter Soldier.

Lots of possibilities for forbidden love here, across enemy lines or inside the Red Room itself. Any questions, feel free to PM me. If you'd like him reformed, I can try that too. ]

[So his code name was Winter Soldier. The things you learn about the people you meet, she muses, ambling down the cobblestone street. She'd always thought he'd looked a little like Steve Rogers, but she had chalked it up to coincidence. After all, Rogers had been killed in action. At least, that was what she had been led to believe. And then Nick had shown her the photos of him at various airports, barely aging through the years.]

[She covertly scans the rooftops and surrounding buildings as she looks both ways to cross the street. All she had to do was track down the Winter Soldier before he killed. Knowing whom he was there to kill would help. Actually wanting to catch him- Well. That was her assignment.]

[Still, she wasn't looking as hard as she could have. If she found him, she would have to capture or kill him. Part of her was hoping - and part of her was afraid - that he would find her first.]

It was never a surprise when Steve left. He always left to go.. do whatever it is he did. It crossed TJ's mind once that they guy might have a family somewhere, but Steve just didn't seem the type. But what did he really know about the man? He never stayed around long, but he always came back. TJ promised himself he was done with all this: the vanishing for weeks, for months at a time and all the secrets and distance. But as soon as Steve showed up at his door, all his resolve melted away.

Maybe if he was sober, he'd have more willpower. Yeah, right. TJ liked trying to convince himself he'd be a better man if he would just kick all his bad habits: drugs and booze... and Steve. But what could he do when Steve showed up again, just standing at the door like there was nowhere else he was supposed to be? Inevitably, they ended up in bed. Again. Once all the fire of anger and passion cooled and they lay there in the dark, TJ started wondering why he kept trying to convince himself this was a bad thing.

"How long are you here?"

"A week, maybe."

It all depended on how quickly he could execute his mission. Though nothing was allowed to compromise how effectively he worked, he could admit to himself that he hoped it would take some time to find his mark. He enjoyed the time spent in his young lover's presence, and it never seemed to be long enough.

But the longer he spent, the more risk of creating complications. Compromised feelings. It was for the best that they stayed apart so often, or TJ would be put into even more danger than he realized. The young man was no innocent, but that was a fate undeserved.

"A week," he echoed in a flat voice. It was longer than usual, so TJ really didn't have much room for complaint. Hell, usually Steve told him he was leaving the day he planned to go. This was a marked improvement. Maybe he'd be less resentful if he knew Steve was trying, in his own way to protect TJ from the fallout of his life.

A sigh followed and TJ tried to dispel some of his bitterness. Their time was borrowed, why ruin it? Steve rarely complained about TJ attitude and his many short-comings. What right did TJ have to gripe about the mystery of Steve's long periods away? This 'relationshop' of theirs was really only about sex and convenience and maybe, on occasion, companionship.

"How much of that will you be able to spend here?" TJ didn't deceive himself into thinking Steve would be able to spend the entirety of a week with him.

"Not much," he admitted, gaze flickering down to where the other lay, resting against him. The flush of sex had cooled from his skin, but he was still warm. Far warmer than the labs and the base, than the chamber in which he could vaguely remember sleeping. TJ helped to chase the memories of the cold away, if only for a little while.

Maybe that wasn't necessarily a good thing, anymore. He ought to head back to the hotel, soon. Staying was never really in the cards as it was.

"Tomorrow night. We'll go out, if you want," he added, with no real inflection to say whether it was something he wanted to do, or something that might appease TJ.

At least he was honest. TJ never could find fault in how forthright Steve was about their time together. At least not in the moments when Steve was actually in his presence. There were plenty of faults to be found and complaints to be made when the man was gone.

As if he could somehow sense what was on Steve's mind, TJ nestled closer. An arm draped over the other man -- loosely so he could move away if he wanted -- and TJ laid his head against Steve's shoulder.

"Sure," he agreed, never stopping to question whether or not Steve actually wanted to go out. "I'll get a table at the W for dinner." There was more on his mind and the abrupt end of his words betrayed that he wanted to say something more. But he hesitated. TJ tilted his head and peered at Steve, or rather, the strong line of his jaw and the subtle curve of his cheek that was clearly visible from where his head lay. "Can you stay tonight?"

It was the first time he'd come out and asked, the first sign that maybe he should start letting go. It wasn't pure cruelty that motivated the thought, either. TJ would undoubtedly be better off.

"...if you want."

By morning he could slip out, be where he needed to be. It wouldn't disrupt things too much. He still really ought to reconsider that decision, he thought to himself with a frown, but TJ plucked at something in him. Some distant feeling that was alien and strange and yet felt right. When TJ looked at him and asked him to do something, it seemed as easy as pulling a trigger, as natural as breathing air.

This was definitely a bad idea.

'If you want.' It was such an ambivalent thing to say twice in so short a time. Whatever it was Steve was in DC for, it wasn't TJ, that much was obvious. Well, he knew that already, though, didn't he? Even when Steve was around for days, TJ only saw him for hours. It never bothered him much until Steve was gone again.

"If you're busy, you don't have to," TJ offered, failing to hide the faint note of disappointment that tinged the words. "I'm sure you have other," better, "things to do. Maybe tomorrow, instead." Probably not.

TJ could never put his finger on it, exactly. He barely knew Steve, but that wasn't an issue. He barely knew a lot of people who ended up in his bed. There was just something he couldn't quite name in the way Steve looked at him, this subtle way that he seemed to soften when he looked at TJ noticeably from when he wasn't looking at him. Desperation made TJ want to fight for that, just to have someone, even a veritable stranger look at him like that.

The boy plays petulance well. Steve sighed faintly, reaching up to stroke a hand through TJ's hair (metal under synthetic skin, but the other has yet to notice, so it's all well and good). He can't feel it, not like he could with his real hand, just the faint pressure that comes from the contact. It's an apt metaphor for what this is.

"Why? I thought you didn't like people staying too long."

"I don't," he was quick, a little too quick, to say. Even TJ realised it and an annoyed frown tugged at his lips. Brows knit and he closed his eyes, trying to buy a few seconds to think of something that didn't sound too much like a desperate plea. "It's different when they want to stay. They always want something other than me: dirty little Hammond family secrets, prestige, wish-fulfilment." He paused a beat, then added so softly it was almost inaudible, "But you. You don't want anything."

With that, Steve was rolling onto his side, the better to stare down at the other. A faint crease had appeared in his forehead, what might have been empathy of a sort. He knew, after all, what it was to be only ever of use, never wanted for anything other than use.

Perhaps that's why he's not on task now, why he's slipped his leash in order to spend time here, because TJ doesn't need or want anything from him except him. That's not something he can claim of many. Slowly the hand in his hair drifts to TJ cheek, his jaw, fingertips pressed to skin.

"I want you. It's enough."
grindr: (genuine smile #1)

For fraction of a second panic gripped him. As soon as Steve moved he thought for sure the man was going to get up and leave. Without any conscious knowledge of it, TJ tightened his arm minutely around Steve and his brows furrowed deeply. But when the warmth of the body beside him didn't dissipate, TJ's eyes opened slowly, curiously, staring back at Steve with something akin to wonder in them.

The lazy ease of laying in bed vanished and TJ found his heart racing again. He chewed his lower lip and canted his head against the brush of Steve's fingers. Some part of him knew they'd both be better off with out this, without the constant tug and pull of wanting more and being too reticent to give any more. He loosened his arm around Steve and settled a hand on his hip.

Steve was right. This was enough. Whatever it was he did, whatever he was out there in the world, when he came to TJ, he was just Steve and that was enough. The mystery of him is part of what TJ found so appealing in him. If he learnt more, it wouldn't be the same. After a short moment, which felt much longer to TJ, he nodded in agreement.

"It's enough." Silence followed and TJ lifted a hand to take Steve's, twining his fingers between the other man's. "That's why I ask you to stay. It's okay if you can't. Really." And this time, he actually meant it.
