[ Nearly four years, and this is where they've ended up.
Ivor doesn't understand why it had always been the draw, not when Cae was already suffering, but they'd traveled all over the universe – first, separated for far too many cycles, and then, together – only to find themselves in the place it had all started. It should have been obvious the first time Cae had shown signs of not being human any longer, infected through to the deeper parts of him that Ivor could not reach. He probably never could, but still, he'd struggled to make peace with it even as he forced them to go on. On and on and on until he'd tried to run again, and this is where that had gotten them: in siren space with the monsters Cae thought he'd become.
It's an older station that they'd docked the ship on, but for the first several hours, Ivor hadn't wanted to step foot into it. The last time they'd been somewhere like this... He frowns and sorts through some of the alerts on his comp band, adjusting his settings, and without telling Cae, he uses one of the spare aerosuits to board the station. Within seconds, he can tell they're here. The same inky swirl coats the walls a room over, and it's like his footsteps echo back to him the same way they had the first time they'd encountered the sirens. He holds his breath as he explores further, wanting answers and uncertain they'd actually find them here. Cae isn't doing well, and this is probably the last place in all the galaxies to bring him. But they're out of options, and Ivor is desperate.
So much more than he'll ever admit.
And he continues walking until he's a floor down from the original entrance, surrounded by the flickering movements of sirens dormant but still alert. Ivor had tried to glean as much information about them as he could through the years he'd travled looking for Cae, but his knowledge remains minimal. It's annoying, and he swallows his anger as he steps into the next room, feeling it completely vanish the moment his comp band lights up. His gaze is narrowed in on the swelling mass pulsing far across from him, and his reaction time is severely poor with the shock he suffers. There are distinct human sounds coming from it, his mind spinning as he falls back and trips over some old debris. Had this been what Cae had seen? He'd heard rumors of it before, brief things that hadn't made any sense, something about infestation, but he isn't planning to stay there and find out.
Neither of them should have come here.
He pulls up a screen and immediately sends Cae a message as soon as he's up and moving back towards the ship. ]
Don't leave. We're getting out of here.
