Experimental

more than E X P E R I M E N T A L

In this laboratory setting you've found yourself in - be it a shady, fly-by-night hackjob, a secret governmental facility, or a sleek, state-of-the art facility - there's no room for error. What's done is done for science: pure, perfect, uncorrupted by human foibles. Data is the only language spoken, reason the guiding light. And for all this progress to occur smoothly, everyone must know their proper role, from the specialists at work to the lowly crew...and, of course, any experiments involved. Some more bleeding hearts would feel sorry for the latter, but make no mistake, they're little more than lab rats. They are not to be pitied. Emotion shouldn't even be wasted on them.

Especially not an emotion as messy and useless in and of itself as romantic love. Why, you wouldn't want to jeopardize the breakthrough of the ages on account of some fairy tale, would you? Besides, it would be the most unfulfilling of relationships, for you could never be with your beloved test subject.

Unless.

Unless you broke them out. Such an action would be highly illogical and, more importantly, met with severe punishment. Are they worth all that?

How to Play
- Your character is either some sort of test subject/creature/weapon/misunderstood and otherwise tortured prisoner of science OR an outside party (scientist, doctor, janitor, visitor, journalist, sky's the limit). They meet their opposite. They fall in love. Bad Shit happens. Nobody's happy.
- Comment with your character, preferences, role, info, all the good stuff.
- Reply to others.
- Be tragic and miserable together.

[Nejire had spent most of her life in a tube. She remembered being a child outside the tube. She remembered a bright blue sky and green grass and dark caves. This place was more like a dark cave than anything else. It was a dimly-lit lab with humming machines and a lot of scientists. She asked them a lot of questions but they didn't understand her language. Some of them had taken to calling it her "singing."]

[The scientists changed. She learned little things about them. She learned their language faster than they learned hers. She learned two of them had sons that played together. That sounded so nice! Do they want to play? Will they play with her? But her question wasn't going to be answered.]

[The years pass and those young boys could be on their way to being scientists themselves. It's time for something that happened every couple of years- changing her tank. They'd design it to be more solid (she could release quite a shockwave when she was frustrated) or roomier or what. This time, though, she has a goal. So, when they've left her to the secondary tank...]

[she knocks it over and oozes out. Without the surrounding fluid it was tough to keep her shape. She oozes, slips, and struggles against the harsh outside air. She finds an exit. A drainpipe. She takes it.]

[And that's how Tamaki Amajiki, only recently having been briefed on what actually is being researched in his father's lab, walks in to find a goo girl in his bathtub.]

[personal profile] tamakiyaki 2018-11-05 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
[For his part, Tamaki had spent most of his life simultaneously being raised to take over for his father eventually and kept from going to the lab and seeing what he was actually working on. It never made sense to him, but there wasn't anything he could do about it but study and study and hope his curiosity would eventually be sated.

And. Well. It is, in due time, and then everything suddenly makes sense as to why it was always a secret.

What he doesn't expect? Is for his first day to start quite like this. There's no formal introduction to the girl, there's no going to work, reading briefings, being told anything other than the fact she exists...

No, what happens instead is he wakes up, wanders to the bathroom to get ready, and is face to face with the subject in question. In his bathtub. Who had clearly made her way here on her own, if the little bits of residual dirt from the drain system was any indication.]

Wh-what are you doing here?

[...As if she could answer. Could she answer? All he knew was that communication was difficult at best...]

[It's hard to tell what's water and what's her body. There's definitely a "main" form of body that rests above the rest. It's very humanoid, with a woman's curves and big, bright eyes. Upon making eye contact, there's some of the melodic babbling and then-]

Hello! [It sounds a bit foreign on her tongue still, but it's Japanese English human language.]

Hello, Play?

[she leans outside the tub, little droplets falling off her body and onto the floor.]
tamakiyaki: (❂【027】)

[personal profile] tamakiyaki 2018-11-05 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh. So she can manage some of their language. That was... for the best, because while he thinks he could probably learn the meaning of some of that melodic babbling eventually, he was fairly certain he couldn't reliably replicate the sound.

Maybe he should be thinking about how to get her back to the lab, instead of how to communicate with her, but... she'd been kept a secret for so long, that he could get away with keeping some secrets of his own, right?]

[She seems to light up at his response. She hadn't tried using human language with the scientists. They were too boring, after all. They wouldn't answer her questions, they would just ask more questions.]

How humans play? [she tilts her head the other way. She'd never gotten to see humans play before! It could be anything! She pauses for a moment and tries to lift her "arm" but it falls to drips when she tries.]

Fl... fluid! [she chimes at him. The bathtub hadn't been full when she slipped into it and she was appropriately weakened. She couldn't really manifest limbs this way.]

Fluid! Play!

[personal profile] twistygal 2018-11-05 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
[Nejire had always been a curious girl. From the moment she could talk she was asking questions. Some people would suggest she asked too many questions and many a tutor had politely asked for a break. Her energy always seemed to be all over the place, though, without a solid place to devote it to. Her father, a famous researcher, showed her picture after picture and exposed her to all fields of research to try and direct her passion for questioning.]

[She showed a healthy amount of interest in everything but nothing caught her.]

[Until she found a picture that was hidden in an envelope labeled "confidential." The picture was a boy, about her age, with some sort of weird, animalistic appendage in place of his arm. The thought began to spin and spiral in her head and suddenly she was researching all types of cryptids, supernatural entities, and all the things that modern science scoffed at.]

[She knew, though. She knew that they were real and they were the most interesting things in the world.]

[A paper she published at fifteen was her very first "in" and by sixteen she was generally known by people working on secret projects. At seventeen she finally got her approval to go to that lab. It was a messy place, with lots of livestock in cages and a makeshift kitchen build into what used to be a recreation room. The initial data was from seven years ago and while they'd made progress, things had slowed down enough to let someone come and breathe new life into the project.]

[She'd get to meet him! She'd get to look over all his files! She'd get to learn all sorts of things about him. She was so excited that she felt like bouncing around the room.]

[And, well, some of the older researchers didn't like that it felt like they were essentially babysitting now. Still, maybe she'd be able to get something out of him that he didn't. He was still a boy, after all, wasn't he? And Miss Hado was a pretty girl.]

good

[personal profile] tamakiyaki 2018-11-05 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
[Tamaki had always been shy to a fault, in no small part because he knew he was strange. Normal kids couldn't do what he could, so he'd taken to hiding it, until he met a friend who was also strange who had pried him out of his shell, little by little. And that would be their undoing. In fact, in his file, right near the beginning, Nejire might take notice of a side note about another boy who could phase through anything.

Obviously, they hadn't been able to keep him.

Unfortunately, that left Tamaki alone for seven very long years. He'd tried to be helpful, at first, had done everything they asked of him, but when it came to be too much, when he couldn't perform as expected, they hit a wall. Yelling only made him more withdrawn, and there was only so much they could force him to do. They'd begun to repeat tests, make notes on how his control over whatever allowed him to shift only seemed to sharpen with age, and that bred fear. Fear led to two things - the first being that he was confined like all the rest of the test subjects, locked into a cold cage that was - in theory - strong enough to hold him, and the second being the simple act of just feeding him less, and only rarely anything not synthetically made.

After all, if he couldn't draw on anything useful, then he was as easy to deal with as an ordinary, skittish teenager.

At least, until there was word of a new researcher being added to the project. Those were always the times he was cleaned up nicely, given a new oversized shirt to wear, shuffled into a cell with a bed, made to look more like a prisoner than a test subject.

Somehow that was better.

What he doesn't expect, is for the new researcher to be a young girl around his age. For a second, when she's brought in, his expression is some mix of apology and disgust and pity - she wasn't old enough to work here, she must also be "strange", there was really only one reason to introduce them...

But she's dressed well, has a nametag, has files in her hand and a clipboard, so... relief hits him a lot harder than he'd thought, and shows a lot more than it should.]
twistygal: <user name="vuvuzela"> (pic#12440576)

[personal profile] twistygal 2018-11-05 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[Nejire had looked over his file extensively as soon as she could. The original data matched up with what she had predicted- a metahuman. In more recent findings, though, there was a suggestion he could be a nonhuman that was simply pretending. After all, if he could manifest traits of anything he ate, it would be of no issue to eat a human child.]

[Still, that seemed stupid. Even if the subject was a monster, he was still choosing to look human, right? That's what he wanted. She pages through them for hours before finally being permitted to see the subject in person. Her eyes are full and round when she looks on him- but not an ounce of fear or distrust in them.]

Hello! [she says so brightly that some of the older scientists around her wince slightly.]

You're #201131-119, right? Codename Suneater? [she bounces on her heels]

I've wanted to meet you for a really long time!
tamakiyaki: (❂【031】)

[personal profile] tamakiyaki 2018-11-05 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[Honestly, he didn't even know what he was anymore. He thought he was human, but 'metahuman' was tossed around a lot, and 'monster' even more lately. He did know that he... or, "the real Tamaki Amajiki" was officially, legally dead, because... well, there was no way he could have just disappeared otherwise.

But that was who he had once been. Now, he's just #201131-119, one-nineteen, Suneater, or, more often recently, 'hey you' or, when they think he can't hear them 'that thing'. So to have a new researcher on the job was more than a little intimidating. That never usually ended too well, and so the older scientists aren't the only ones who flinch at her bright greeting.

He has a bed for now. He could hide under it. But no, being impolite would probably not end very well, so he edges closer to the door, close enough that he can look down at her, and that she can probably see that he's shaking.]

That's right, miss... [Polite polite polite...] But... why would you want to meet me?
