Everyone has nightmares right? The dark thoughts lurking in the depths of our minds. Our fears out of our control. At least they only occur in our sleeping hours... right?

This meme is designed to wretch that comfort right out from under you.

Your character is stuck in their worst nightmare and worse yet, someone is stuck in there with them. Whether it's a familiar face, a stranger, intentional or accidental, you have to dig your way out. Good luck lost souls. And remember. The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself.

Feel free to use the prompts below as a jumping point, or make up whatever you want. As a warning this meme will possibly contain TRIGGERS and MATURE CONTENT. Read ahead with caution.

i. the WEAVER (the nightmare)

001 - waking nightmare - wake up. Wake up. Wake. UP. The only sure guarantee out of a dream. And yet when your eyes open, the fear still surrounds you. The nightmare has its hold. You've woken up to your own nightmare. Why hasn't it gone away?

002 - stuck - Slowly, you begin to realize this is all just a dream. But you can't get out. You're stuck to the whims of your subconscious, unable to escape. Completely aware that this is just a nightmare, but unable to escape.

003 - pursuit - You're being chased, endlessly, by something, someone. Maybe it's a boogey monster, maybe it's only a metaphor. But you're out of breath and places to run.

004 - the end of your world - The apocalypse. Brought about around you. Maybe it came slowly, like a slow burning fire-- or perhaps it was a conflagration. Your entire world is falling apart around you and you can do nothing to stop it. Or perhaps even worse, you're the cause.

005 - your greatest fear - Maybe your greatest fear is something common, like spiders, or something which seems completely mundane, such as the color yellow. Whatever it is, it's surrounding you. Keeping you in it's embrace.

006 - ground hog day - It starts out harmless. One day, not unlike any other. Except, it's repeated over. And over. And over. And over. Until slowly your mind just.... slips away.

007 - i have no mouth and I must scream - slowly, against your will, you're transforming. Turning into a creature unlike yourself. Perhaps a monster, maybe a pile of goo. Whatever it is, you're helpless to stop it.

008 - free style - take these prompts and throw em' out the window. Do it however you want.


ii. the THREAD (why the other character is there)

001 - the devil on their chest - Maybe the dreamer was someone in your way, someone who had done harm to you or someone you care about, maybe it’s just for shits and giggles. But you are the one who has stuck them in this nightmare, and you want to watch them fall victim to their own mind.

002 - mind link - for some reason you share a connection with this person. Perhaps it's just the passing of the stars, a jolt of electricity, or their mind reaching for yours. But now you’re stuck here, trying to get them out.

003 - experiment - Just a quick injection, maybe a little sting, it won't hurt. That's what the men in coats said. But look where that got you.

004 - save them - you've been tasked to save this person, no matter the cost. Maybe they're a stranger, maybe they're your closest friend, even your greatest enemy, but you have to save them.

005 - just following orders - It's a job, and you've been tasked to it. They may have some info you need. Or maybe you have to keep them in for the benefit of someone else. It doesn't matter. It's only a job. Right?

006 - we have ways of making you talk - They have something you need. And it's time you squeeze it out of them.

007 - free style - take these prompts and throw em' out the window. Do it however you want.

Possible nightmares/preferences: In canon, his nightmare(s) were being literally trapped/barred in his mansion of a house, and being rejected and attacked by Ladybug. I’m willing to explore alternate possibilities! Obviously (though they will probably relate to Ladybug/his freedom/his father in some way).
Quick History: Celebrity kid fashion model by day, cat superhero saving Paris by night. He’s stuck in the shadow of his famous father yet desperately seeks his approval and love at the same time. His powers involve destruction. He transforms using a ring (his Miraculous) and kwami (Plagg).
Quick Personality: As Cat Noir, he’s more free to be himself. He is flirty and likes to make lots of jokes and puns. He is agile and uses a staff to fight. As Adrien, he is more reserved but still loves puns. He is less flirty; has a sweet tooth.
Triggers/things you'd like to avoid: As long as we stay away from anything sexual we’re good.

Keith | Voltron: Legendary Defender

Possible nightmares/preferences: Game for any nightmare prompts, 2/4/6 pref for the thread type
Quick History: Keith's a half-Galra who struggled with abandonment issues and has fought in an intergalactic war. Also a brainwashed clone of his most important person tried to kill him once.
Quick Personality: Pre-S6 he's a lone wolf type who somehow manages to reach out to and care about others, has a low opinion of himself, is more or less dependent on his best friend/mentor, struggles with identity issues. Post-S6 he's more mature but probably still has all the shit he's been through on his mind.
Triggers/things you'd like to avoid: Rape, gore, body horror, permanent character death

Cecil Palmer | Welcome to Night Vale

Possible nightmares/preferences: Cecil's nightmares are likely to be completely incomprehensible and utterly horrifying. He's seen and experienced some seriously horrifying shit, and some of that is likely to've stuck with him. Expect lots of dark, unfathomable shapes, unnatural... everything, and mirrors. He hates mirrors. As for preferences on what dreams to encounter, I'm up for pretty much anything.
Quick History: The radio host of a pleasant, totally normal desert community who makes his living reporting on the everyday goings-on there. Sort of. Does he get paid...?
Quick Personality: Cecil is generally very polite and good-natured, and maybe just a little bit naive. He tends to shut down when confronted with problems, however, or with something that disagrees with his worldview, or makes him question his life or his experiences, and he utterly refuses to face or even admit his own fears most of the time, opting instead to just never think about them.
Triggers/things you'd like to avoid: Anything involving animal abuse or animal death.

Loki | MCU | ota

Possible nightmares/preferences: If he's the dreamer, flashbacks of physical torture (under the Black Order, and he might be the victim or being forced to do the torture), horror involving his Jotun heritage (maybe body horror?), and familial betrayal are likely themes. A general feeling of paranoia will permeate the dream state, because everyone knows he is a monster and they are out to get him.

Quick History: God of mischief and/or lies, among other things. Adopted, but no one bothered to tell him until he accidentally discovered he was an entirely different species from his family, whoops. Did a lot of kind-of bad things before the revelation, and really bad things afterwards.

Quick Personality: Arrogant, defensive, emotionally ruthless toward himself and others, always up to something and it's usually not the something you think he's up to. He is extremely bright, capable of being very, very charming, and he probably has other good qualities, too, I just can't think of them right now.

Triggers/things you'd like to avoid: I'm not really interested in an explicit non-con scene, neither as victim or as perpetrator. I'm okay with it being implied, just not played out moment by moment. It's not a trigger for me, just a preference. No abuse of animals. Otherwise, I'm fine with going very dark.

If you want Loki to be the one invading your character's dreams, please let me know! I'm absolutely up for that and the possibilities are endless. Any of the prompts might be applicable reasons, or honestly he might just be fucking with them because he can.

Possible nightmares/preferences: Likely to have nightmares about her owner chasing her down, nightmares about having her eye removed, and nightmares about some of the many people White Diamond has hurt or killed rising up in a mob to hunt her down. That said, she would be a good companion to have in someone else's dream due to her lack of selfishness and general attitude of servitude.
Quick History: Pearls are made to be servants to other Gems (people) on her world, Homeworld. White Pearl is the Pearl of White Diamond, the head of the fascist Great Diamond Authority. White Pearl's owner is a dictator with implied moodswings who did something resulting in White Pearl losing an eye.
Quick Personality: White Pearl is always smiling, even under extreme stress, always polite and places fulfilling the orders of her Diamond above everything else. Her only purpose in life is to serve her Diamond.
Triggers/things you'd like to avoid: No sex-related prompts, please. She's a Gem; that's not really how her species works.

Eddie Brock | Venom 2018 | Closed

[It was a nightmare. One that had been reality only a few months before. It had turned out okay, after all. But in this dream the fire and flame engulfs everything in front of him, taking everything and leaving Eddie all alone. He falls and falls and falls, far longer than should be possible. He hears the faintest words before he falls into a sensory depriving, all consuming darkness:

"Goodbye, Eddie"

But then, then he wakes up.

Eddie breathes in a deep, ragged gasp as he jerks out of his prone position to sit up in bed, his hands immediately shoot up to grasp his head, covering his face. Sweat drips down his face as he flashes through the now quickly fading memory of the nightmare. It was only a dream. Only. A. Dream.

Still blinded by the darkness of the room, Eddie eventually reaches out to flick on the light on his bedside table. Warm yellow light bursts forth to illuminate the room he's in. After a moment he mutters to his companion:]

You there, pal?

[There's no answer, and in that moment the glow of the lamp doesn't stop. Instead, it turns into a raging inferno thundering from above as the room melts away into open air and above him the rocket is still exploding into pieces. And he's falling again, fingers reaching up for something that isn't there anymore and all his brain can focus on is "No".]

No, no no no no!!!

[then the cold of the water crashes in around him and he can't breathe again. Just like before. Again, he suddenly finds himself sitting up in bed—sweating but somehow cold, the loop starting anew.]

[Venom does not dream. At least when not in a host. Eddie is definitely one of the more active minds that they have been inside, which is both entertaining and frustrating for them. Entertaining because Eddie always has something on his mind, it's never idle. Stories in his mind, pieces of a puzzle that he has to solve, and they love how his mind works.

But recently, when they become idle as Eddie sleeps and Venom rests against his heart, they have been plagued with visions of dark and fire. This isn't the first time that Eddie has dreamed this event. It makes his heart race, his breath quicken, and his body to be covered in sweat (even if that last part is normal). They do not like when his heart races unless they are the cause of it.]

Eddie.

[They has to force themselves into Eddie's mind, normally they know better than to do that, but they do not like how Eddie feels. They have to help. The black goop slides from under the bed and their body forms without the need for Eddie's body. This is a dream after all, they are still with Eddie, and his snug hold on Eddie's heart tightens just slightly in the real world. They want Eddie to know that they are their, they can feel his fear rise when Eddie thinks that he is alone. But he isn't.]

I got us.

[A clawed hand pulls their body out from under the bed. In all honest, this would be the sight of a true nightmare. A wicked, sharp toothed monster crawling from the dark spots from under a sleeping human. Venom thinks of themselves as more of a hero at the moment. The bed shifts as they move out from under it. Venom's claws now gripping against the mattress and paws at the blankets to pull himself closer.]

Florence Nightingale | Fate/Grand Order | OTA

Possible nightmares/preferences: Very likely scenes of her years spent in Crimea, which were her own personal hell as well as her moment of glory. In particular the hospital, Scutari, was notoriously bad. So probably a sense of being stuck in a horrible situation surrounded by the injured and dying yet not being able to do anything about it.

Alternatively, she did die of old age and wasn't able to do as much in her later life so it's possible that dreams of being trapped in a single room might occur as well if you don't wish to go the wartime route.

Quick History: In life, Nightingale was a daughter of a wealthy man during the Victorian era. Through sheer will she dedicated herself to the pursuit of helping others and eventually became a nurse. As the manager of a group of nurses she went off to help in the Crimean war. This is where her fame of being the 'Angel of Crimea' comes from. She came back as a hero and spent of the rest of her long life campaigning for various reforms.

Quick Personality: Proud, ambitious, selfless to the point of being selfish, obsessed with sanitation, and...in her current state very mentally unstable.

Triggers/things you'd like to avoid: Mainly just no animal abuse. Torture is fine. Just ask me before sexual things.

Urick | Drakengard 2

Possible nightmares/preferences: any of the prompts are workable! Urick has a fear of being trapped or held in place, and of dying. Or is it being unable to die? Both? Yeah. He also has a little past baggage that haunts him, so we can always explore that because who cares about DOD2 spoilers?
Quick History: there's no history here haha he's just a guy! Just a guy in a silly mask, haha. Here's a wiki link if you wanna know more.
Quick Personality: Urick's a jovial sort of guy with a very cynical, nihilistic sense of humour, especially regarding himself. He doesn't hold grudges easily and shrugs all issues off with a laugh and a wink. Nothing gets under his skin, right?
Triggers/things you'd like to avoid: rape, not that it'd be likely to come up.
