John is a humorous and entertaining drinking companion but that's not what surprises Matt. What's surprising is that John's presence here in Josie's shithole of a bar doesn't feel intrusive or artificial. He's always been comfortable on his own. The company of people, on the other hand, usually means some level of stress for him.

So far they're doing fine.
