The room is dark when Natasha opens the door, but she can see the outline of Clint, his back to her, shoulders so still that she knows he's not sleeping. He's never quite that still when he sleeps.

She's been waiting for him to come to her, to decide that he's worthy of the people who still love him (even though she's never said it and he's never asked) and forgive him for what he did. She's been waiting too long. He's not the only one hurting, the only one feeling loss. Even though this is 90% about him and 10% about her, she feels relief when she slips into bed behind him, wrapping her arm around his chest and her leg over both of his.

He doesn't have to talk if he doesn't want to. He just needs to be real and warm under her hands, to smell like musk and powder when she presses her nose to the back of his neck. That's enough for her.
