THE DATE MEME

Here's how it works!

1. Comment to this post with your character. List the character's name, series, and any preferences you might have in the subject.

Locations

1. Restaurant. What better way to spend some romantic time than over food? Maybe you're at the fancy restaurant in town, or maybe you just couldn't afford anything nice, so you're at the nearest diner. Or maybe somewhere in between?

2. Games. The two of you are playing a game somewhere! You could be at a bowling alley, an arcade, a miniature golf course...the possibilities here are countless.

3. The Park. Of course, Mother Nature can provide an excellent atmosphere for romantic bonding! Perhaps you're taking a leisurely stroll through the lush grounds, or maybe you've laid out a blanket somewhere so the two of you could have a picnic.

4. Movie Theater. Or maybe the two of you are sitting next to each other in a dark room, sharing a bucket of popcorn while you're watching the latest film. Did you opt for a horror flick to keep your significant other latched to your arm -- or for you to latch to theirs -- or perhaps something they enjoy, like a sappy romance film or a cheesy action flick? Or maybe you compromised and went to see a sweet romantic comedy.

5. Skating. It's always nice to go skating, right? Are you at a roller skating rink, or did you find a frozen lake and decide to go ice skating? Which one of you needs help (you know at least one of you does)?

6. Beach. Ahh, the beach! Go ahead and set up camp wherever you like! Or if you don't watn to lay down and catch a tan, you can go swimming, or take a walk along the shore! Or if you don't want getting sand on your feet or in your shoes, go hit up the boardwalk!

7. Sunday Drive. Sometimes you don't really have a destination in mind. Sometimes you just want to drive and enjoy the scenery. Well, here's your chance to do that!

8. Amusement Park. There's plenty to do here! Take your date on the Ferris wheel, or the tunnel of love...or something more thrilling, like a roller coaster! Walk around with cotton candy!

9. Dance/Ball. School dance? Prom? Business gala? Whatever it is, you're there, and you've got a date.

10. Wild Card. Your choice! Feel free to pick something that's not here.

1. Blind Date. You had no idea who you were going out with until you arrived! Was it a complete stranger, or did it turn out to be someone you knew?

[ The peal of laughter punctured by the odd gut-shaking belch dominated the sounds of chatting restaurant goers. Korra was clutching her sides when she was literally out of gas by the time their food arrived. Forgoing her instinct to just dig in, she attempted conversation. ]

So, where we goin'? Don't tell me it's a surprise.

Not really a surprise, but it's just easier to see it in person. I figured you might appreciate some scenic spots. And there's a place that's great for earthbending I think you'll really like! If you bounce rocks right, you can play tunes. True story. I wouldn't lie to you.

[ Don't worry about the smalltalk, girl; he was just as hungry as she. It wasn't as if either of them were slow eaters, either. ]

I trust you, Sifu Bolin.

[ Said graciously through a mouthful of noodles, but the sentiment was all there in her enthusiasm. Outside the compound she hadn't met a better earthbending partner than Bolin. Spirits knew Beifong put earthbending and fun together like oil and water. ]

[ S-S-S-SIFU...aww, shucks!! Bolin couldn't help his dainty blush. Sifu Bolin had kind of a nice ring to it.

Truthfully though, he had more planned for tonight than just some casual hangin' out. There was something he needed to tell Korra - needed her to understand - and he hadn't done that yet. Not properly. Bolin was pretty sure she got the gist, anyway, but that wasn't the point. The point was that he clear the air and lay it all out in front of her. That was the only way it would be right.

So he toured her about some of his favourite parts of the city: here, where he and Mako had lived with their parents before they were orphaned; here, the best view of the city at night; here, his favourite spot just outside the city limits to practice bending. It was creeping well towards morning by the time they were too exhausted to go much further, and he figured that it was Time.

The two of them collapsed companionably in the park, winded from a busy evening with a lot of dashing about and a lot of laughing. Bolin felt lighter and freer than he had in recent memory. It was perfect. Heck, she was perfect. Yeahhh. What a gal. ]

...Say, Korra?

[ He got to his feet, feeling more than a little bashful as he fumbled through his pocket for something. He hadn't really practised what he was going to say; something like this had to come straight from the heart! Hearts were way more eloquent than brains. ]

I...well, there's something I wanna sive to you. [ WAIT. ] --GIVE. I mean give to you. And say. Say-give...sive. Yeah. Anyway!!

[ Bolin cleared his throat, looking at her expectantly, and wondering if she was about to freak out. To be honest, he kinda hoped she was. He was sort of setting her up that way, after all. ]

[ Korra remained non the wise as they trawled through the city streets together, and with the occasionally inclusion of Naga. It wasn't until their polar bear dog escort got tired and hungry that they were hoofing it, alone save for one another.

As she did with everything, she took in every sight as it came to her before moving on to the next one with renewed enthusiasm each time. Nothing fell into repetition, or boredom. It wasn't until they were half-dead on their feet and sitting languid in the park that Korra was less a leaf in the wind and more a rock flat on the ground. ]

Give me? [ That got Korra's attention, and her confusion. She hopping to her feet with a regained jolt of energy. ]

Bolin, I thought you said there would be no surprises. C'mon what's this all about, Sifu?

[ Okay. Okay. This was It. You've got this, Bo! He was way too good-looking to be this flustered.

Bolin's fingers closed around something in his pocket and withdrew it: a bell. He rang it three times, very distinctly. After all the training they'd put in over the past week, Pabu responded perfectly. Bolin hadn't chosen this resting spot by chance, nope! The fire ferret chittered and ducked into the undergrowth, returning with a small box dangling by a pretty blue ribbon. A ring box, in fact.

Bolin sank to one knee in front of the Avatar, face serious, hand over his heart. Pabu stood on his hind legs to offer Korra the box. ]

Korra, I...well, we haven't really known each other all that long, but it already feels like forever. In a good way!! It's hard to imagine life without you around. And you're funny, and smart, and beautiful, and totally kick-ass, and...I guess I just want to say that I admire you a lot. [ Aww geez, he was blushing again. ] A-anyway, you're super great. I guess you probably know that already, but sometimes it's important for other people to tell you that. Sometimes it must be hard being the Avatar, with all the responsibility and stuff, and I know you get confused sometimes too. But you're doing a great job!! Seriously.

[ Gosh, he was getting all emotional; any minute now he'd turn on the waterworks and then where would his speech go? Bolin cleared his throat and reached to open the box. ]

I guess what I'm really saying is...Korra, you're awesome, and I love you a lot. And I'd be really honoured if you'd accept this token of my feelings as a promise that no matter what, we'll always be bros. Best bros.
