THE DATE MEME

Here's how it works!

1. Comment to this post with your character. List the character's name, series, and any preferences you might have in the subject.

3. The two of you are now on a date! The first list is where you took your date. The second list is your current relationship.

Locations

1. Restaurant. What better way to spend some romantic time than over food? Maybe you're at the fancy restaurant in town, or maybe you just couldn't afford anything nice, so you're at the nearest diner. Or maybe somewhere in between?

2. Games. The two of you are playing a game somewhere! You could be at a bowling alley, an arcade, a miniature golf course...the possibilities here are countless.

3. The Park. Of course, Mother Nature can provide an excellent atmosphere for romantic bonding! Perhaps you're taking a leisurely stroll through the lush grounds, or maybe you've laid out a blanket somewhere so the two of you could have a picnic.

4. Movie Theater. Or maybe the two of you are sitting next to each other in a dark room, sharing a bucket of popcorn while you're watching the latest film. Did you opt for a horror flick to keep your significant other latched to your arm -- or for you to latch to theirs -- or perhaps something they enjoy, like a sappy romance film or a cheesy action flick? Or maybe you compromised and went to see a sweet romantic comedy.

5. Skating. It's always nice to go skating, right? Are you at a roller skating rink, or did you find a frozen lake and decide to go ice skating? Which one of you needs help (you know at least one of you does)?

6. Beach. Ahh, the beach! Go ahead and set up camp wherever you like! Or if you don't watn to lay down and catch a tan, you can go swimming, or take a walk along the shore! Or if you don't want getting sand on your feet or in your shoes, go hit up the boardwalk!

7. Sunday Drive. Sometimes you don't really have a destination in mind. Sometimes you just want to drive and enjoy the scenery. Well, here's your chance to do that!

8. Amusement Park. There's plenty to do here! Take your date on the Ferris wheel, or the tunnel of love...or something more thrilling, like a roller coaster! Walk around with cotton candy!

9. Dance/Ball. School dance? Prom? Business gala? Whatever it is, you're there, and you've got a date.

10. Wild Card. Your choice! Feel free to pick something that's not here.

Relationships

1. Blind Date. You had no idea who you were going out with until you arrived! Was it a complete stranger, or did it turn out to be someone you knew?

2. First Date. You finally worked up the courage to ask this person out, and they agreed! How awkward is this going to end up?

3. Steady. You guys have been going out for a while. This is just another one of many dates.

4. Proposing. This isn't just any date for you. You've brought your significant other out somewhere to propose to them! Make sure to warm them up for the main event!

5. Married. You're not just dating, you're a married couple! Whether this is a special occasion or you just decided to break from your everyday life, the two of you are using this as an opportunity to remind each other just how much you love one another.

[It's her favorite cafe: a classy, discreet place where even the singing idol Aino Minako can go to get a moment to herself, or with a friend.

Or a... Well, she isn't so sure what Rei is to her now, if they're trying this. More than a friend, not more than a senshi but something else, too. A partner, in far more ways than on the battlefield. They complement each other.

She waits for her date to arrive, trying to seem as though she does this every day.]

[ Rei is, admittedly, nervous. she shouldn't be -- it's just Minako, they've been friends for a long time, right? -- but this is different, and Rei hasn't been on very many dates before, and not a single one of them has been with a girl.

it's taken her enough time to come to terms with the fact that, yes, okay, she might like Minako in a way that's got nothing to do with their friendship or their shared role as soldiers -- but Rei has always been conscious of how others see her, perhaps overly so, and she can't help but feel like everybody's staring at her, even as she walks down the street to their chosen meeting place, alone.

it's stupid. she shouldn't let it bother her, she should let it go, she should just let herself have fun without worrying about anything. it's not like two girls sitting at a cafe is an unusual sight, anyway. nobody even has to know. it's not a big deal. it's stupid, stupid, stupid.

and so, in her attempt to get herself not to think too much about it, Rei spends the whole way there internally beating herself up over it. the moment she sees Minako, though, the knot in her chest seems to loosen somewhat, and she smiles at her with her hand raised in greeting. ] Hey.

[It's just Minako, still Minako, always Minako; no need for awkwardness or worries. Rei can just think of it as a chance to damage her father's reputation, a little strike back at him.]

I'm glad you came. [There's more than the simple words in that statement. She'd worried that any of a dozen things might have made Rei change her mind.]

Of course I did. We had a date, didn't we? [ because Rei, being Rei, is always going to shove all her fears and doubts deep down below the surface.

she gracefully takes a seat in front of Minako, briefly considering saying something like 'I hope I didn't keep you waiting'. but no, that's embarrassing. too... date-like. ] You like this place, right? I've been wanting to come here for a while.

It's one of my favorite places to come. The staff knows me here, and they'll keep any crowds away.

[This is less a statement to Rei's worries than her own. It isn't unknown for crowds to gather and for a harried shop assistant or waitress to quietly inform Minako that her fans were gathering and would she prefer to leave by the side exit to avoid the crush...?]

-- That's good. [ the reminder that there are, in fact, crowds to be kept away does little to soothe Rei's nerves. kind of the opposite, actually. as soon as the waitress hands her a menu, she flips it open, definitely not out of any sort of desire to hide behind it. ] What would you recommend...?

[Minako feels a twinge of guilt that Rei has to deal with trying to find a private moment with someone in the public eye.]

Anything you want. I'll pay for it.

Oh, no! [ she protests a little too quickly. a brief pause, and her eyes drop back to the menu. ] I mean, you don't have to. I brought enough money, so...

[It's the least she can do after the trouble of fans and finding a location and, well, everything else.

She's also gone at least five minutes without bringing up the Dark Kingdom, the princess, or their senshi mission. This is a record.]

Don't worry about that. It's repayment for dealing with my bodyguards and fans.

[ at that, she smiles a little. ] I don't really mind, you know. If I'm going to become famous someday myself, I'd better get used to it!

[As far as she's concerned, Rei has the talent for it. Rei definitely has the work ethic for it.]

I won't go easy on you when you become my competition. [She smiles, very slightly, as she says it.]

I wouldn't want it any other way. [ after all, Rei's always about giving it everything she's got. if there's a rival that would, beyond the shadow of a doubt, push her to her very limits, Minako is it. ]

[There's a lull in the conversation while they give their orders. Minako chooses a somewhat exotic tea and a few pastries that hint at a sweet tooth.]

They're very delicious. You should try them, too.
