Whether your canon includes them or not, you are now in possession of a fighting machine of some sort! Roll for type, tech level and scenario if you want or just make up/choose your own.
1: Super or Magic Robot
Your ride is a walking machine that might be a secret science experiment or a magical relic. You yell the names of your attacks or mime them and your emotional state directly affects how your robot performs. Rocket punch optional. Note that this doesn't necessarily say anything about the mood or moral ambiguity of your setting. Can be anywhere from a few meters high to the size of a planet.
Example Canons: Mazinger Z, Getter Robo, Big O, Gurren Lagann, Magic Knight Rayearth
2: Real Robot
Your ride conforms to the laws of physics, or at least convincing sounding technobabble. You activate your attacks with some kind of interface, not by miming or shouting them. Your emotional state probably has no direct effect on your mecha's performance. This is a sophisticated piece of hardware that requires regular maintenance. Can be anywhere from a few to several hundred meters.
Example Canons: UC Gundam, Battletech, Heavy Gear, Armored Core
3: Super or Magic Armor
Like super robot, except there's no fussing about with large bipedal machines: you wear the science experiment/magical relic! You've got something, whether it be a belt or wrist computer or magic wand, that allows you to access a powerful combat form or suit. Your foes may have lots of clothes, and terrible fashion sense. And they always explode when defeated. Your weapons are your hands and feet, hi-tech looking martial arts weapons, cards, energy blasts and kicks. Your chance of victory is proportional to the amount of poses you make, and the number of times you might shout Henshin! Or Toh!
Example Canons: Kamen Rider, Super Sentai/Power Rangers
4: Real Armor
You pilot a suit of powered armor. Like your larger Real cousins, this is a sophisticated piece of military hardware. Often equipped with hand weapons or weapons mounted on the back, these are less powerful than larger mecha but can fit in places they couldn't. It's risky, but if you climb onto a bigger machine, it could be trouble for them!
Example Canons: Starcraft (marines, firebats, ghosts), Alien/s series, Bubblegum Crisis, Halo
5: Tank!
Or any non-flying/walking vehicle, we just couldn't resist the Cowboy Bebop reference. Your ride is on wheels, treads or hovers. While you use the same weapons (or even some the others can't like large artillery pieces), they get all the glory. Still, you play a vital role on the battlefield.
Example Canons: Bolo series, Battlezone, Girls Und Panzer, World Of Tanks
6: Dogfighters
You pilot a mecha designed primarily for dogfighting in space, the air or even underwater! Using the same missiles, lasers, particle cannons, machine guns, etc as your walking brethren, you're comparatively more fragile but can deal death from above.
Example Canons: X-Wing, Ace Combat series
7: The Big Guns
Whether an immense airship, a spaceship, a...shipship on or under the water, or even a tracked or hovering landship, you're in command of a large vessel. Bring the guns to bear and load the photon torpedoes!
Example Canons: Star Trek, Starcraft (capital vessels), Banner of the Stars
8: Transforming/Combining
Your ride can transform from one type into another. Nifty.
Example Canons: Macross, Robotech, Power Rangers, Transformers
9: Other
Catch all category for the weirder kind of mecha battles. Do you remote control your machine with your mind? Is it actually a creature you live symbiotically with? A whole city on wheels? Mecha-mons? Nanomachines? Turret hacking? Burrowing mecha?
Example Canons: Mortal Engines, Ghost In The Shell, SD Gundam, Medabots
1: Steampunk or earlier
From the equivalent of the early 1900s on back.
2: Dieselpunk or Atompunk
Secret projects of WW2! Soviet landships!
3: Modern or near future
Your mecha may get the occasional blue screen of death.
4: Farther future
But not far enough that people have collectively realized that fighting in piloted giant humanoid machines is kindof dumb if you look at it objectively
5: Post apocalyptic
The weapons of the Ancients are rare and you've got one of the few operational ones left.
1: Rivals
Like Amuro and Char, you and this enemy pilot keep crossing paths. Who are they and what do they want?
2: Civil War/Traitor
Within your organization, there are some who don't agree with what's going on up top, whether through moral objection or simple power-lust. Now they're enacting your plan. Which side are you on?
3: Coolant and Circuses
You entertain the masses by pushing your machine to the limit in the arena. But who's this next opponent?
4: Rebellion
Using a giant robot for guerilla warfare sounds like an awesome, practical idea.
5: UNDERSTANDING
AKA The Tomino Option, two enemies have started to develop (romantic or platonic) feelings for each other.
6: Monsters
Horrible creatures are coming for your home planet and it's your job to suit up and defend it.
7: Other
Make up your own scenario or reroll.

Because I just got to the Robobot in Planet Robobot
A champion for the strange, star-shaped plane had made himself known, though he certainly didn't look the part. Too young, and too pink for that matter, and yet he met Vladimir's challenge with a calm certainty joined with but a mildly confused curiosity.
"And what kind of challenge even is it?

"And your king sent you, a boy probably not yet out of the sibko to face me?"
He sneered, as he tended to do.
"Your bravery is commendable so I will explain: I am claiming this strangely shaped planet for Clan Wolf. Our reasons are our own. I am offering you the chance to contest it in combat between two mechwarriors, instead of by simply invading you, which would be both wasteful and unchallenging. In the highly unlikely event that you win, I will withdraw our claim and we will leave you in peace."

And upon hearing the words of the challenge, Kirby gave a confident smile and a nod. Winning one fight would be a lot less of a hassle than taking back the whole planet.
"Alright that sounds like something I can do! I'll just need my Robobot and I'll be all set!" He looked around a bit though. "... Are we going to fight here or is there some place special you want to do it though?"
no subject
"We are not near cities or other civilian infrastructure, quineg? These hills will serve as our Circle Of Equals."
He waves the arms of his Timber Wolf to indicated the rolling hills of Green Greens.
"Bring your mech then, but be quick about it. And tell me your name so I might know who I will make my bondsman when I win."

The boy turned around, an arm raised up as if to signal someone to come... but what came to his aid shot down from the skies: a large, yellow object in the same of a a star. It thrummed almost cheerily as Kirby turned back around to Vlad, giving him a friendly wave goodbye before the star began to rise up, vibrating a bit slightly... and then was off in a flash, crossing the hills with ease.
"And my name is KIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRRRRrrrrrrbbbbbbbyyyyyyyyyyy---!"
What he returned a short while later, however... well that was something else. As pink as Kirby's clothes, with stickers adorning each arm, legs so short and stubby one had to wonder why the designer even bothered to put them there when the back thrusters were taking care of mobility, and with an exposed cockpit on top, it couldn't have been further from the Timber Wolf if it tried. But then again it wasn't trying to be an OmniMech. It was the Robobot.
Still, there was no hesitation or doubt in the Kirby's eyes as he looked up at the Timber Wolf, taking stock of the design and noticing the various weapon placements on it.
"Alright, I guess all that's left is to get to it then, right?"

"I bid away targeting the cockpit of that...thing, barbarian. Well bargained and done."
Those words began the Trial Of possession. something Kirby could probably figure out as Vladimir began acquiring a target lock with the two long range missile racks mounted on his mech's shoulders.

... Not that he felt the need to actually cover his eyes with the thing. Just having it was enough as he let the Robobot swing a fist out to test the force of its strikes. Vlad was right; this certainly seemed to be a machine for melee combat. And without any ranged options, the Robobot zoomed towards the Timber Wolf, zigging and zagging with its arms raised up like a boxer might for protection.

And speaking of jumping and guns, the Robobot was almost immediately all up in his grill. He managed to get an LRM salvo off, but without a solid lock, if any of those missiles hit it would be purely by chance. There was no way he'd be able to walk his 75 ton machine back fast enough to avoid clashing.
Instead he twisted his mech's torso to the right, using the arm on that side as a brace and point the left arm under its torso, in Kirby's direction. It wouldn't be the most accurate shot, but at that range it'd be almost impossible to not hit with the mech sized shotgun that was his LBX autocannon. And hopefully at least it'd force Kirby to duck. While he'd bidden away targeting the cockpit (or lack thereof), a blast radius that size would, he thought, surely force Kirby back on the defensive. He pressed the fire button and the shot rang out...
Know this is quite a bit, but I want to give Vlad a good vertical slice of what he's dealing with
He positioned the Robobot directly in the course of a handful of them. Impact should have been certain, or at the very least Kirby would have been caught in the blast of detonated warheads, if the Robobot was equipped with countermeasures.
But what was fired out of the machine defied all logic, flying in the face of Clanner tech. A short-range beam was emitted, catching the missiles in its path... and then they just stopped, breaking down not into scrap and explosives, but fragmented blocks of light.
The sequence over in a matter of only a few seconds, the Robobot's form having spontaneously changed with a black paint job and three small spheres held in racks on either sides above its shoulders.
The transformation was also completed just in time for the Robobot, cockpit and all, to take the full brunt of a salvo from the autocannon, the smaller mech blown back slightly by the attack.
"Aah!" Short as Kirby's cry was, it hadn't been cut short. He was still alive. As a matter of fact, the boy and the Robobot both looked barely injured from attack at all, save for the strike inexplicably having reverted the Robobot to its original paint scheme, with a grey-colored star emblazoned with a cartoonish fuse-and-gunpowder bomb bouncing across the ground away from him.
no problem at all
Still, he didn't stare too long to follow up his autocannon barrage. He kicked the Timber Wolf into reverse and began backing up a hill as fast as his mech could take him. Better to get the high ground. His left arm lasers lashed out as he moved, aimed at the Robobot's legs.
Try to dodge that freebirth. he thought.

-Leaving Kirby only moments to respond to the arm laser follow-up. The Robobot kicked up into the air over the strikes, Kirby turning his sights back on Vlad before gunning the thrusters again to get more air and to give chase again.
And Kirby wouldn't be the only one either, as the Robobot's chest-mouth suddenly swung open, spitting out bomb-shaped drones. They landed quickly, charging directly at the Timber Wolf as a swarm while Kirby repositioned to flank the machine.

and the reason I can't resist being terribleis that she needs a co-pilot to function. Zero Two pilots a FRANXX, Strelitzia, and does so by synchronizing with its body and simultaneously acting as the control yoke... which means being her co-pilot looks like this. Really. Have fun with all the implications there. As an aside, let me know if you'd like to thread AU'ed as her "Darling" or not. If you are, she's teasingly sweet and viciously protective. If you're not, expect her to be a total handful in and out of the cockpit (and possibly slowly killing you, depending how morbid you want to get) until/unless she warms up to you.]
