Ahhh, young love. Whether it's precious or bittersweet, it's something that stays with you. Remember that time...? Of course you do. Both of you thought you'd last forever. Or maybe you were too young to know what that meant. All that mattered was that you were kids and you were together. But time and circumstance tears even the best of friends and young lovers apart. That person, your childhood crush, your first love, is just a memory.

Now, you're being given a second chance. Will it be painful? Will you confess everything and try to win their affection again? You've been reunited, and it's up to you what happens.

HOW TO
① Comment with your character. You can state preferences and such in your subject.

Obito was a real lonely kid growing up and was pretty much viewed as the failure of his family, so falling for any kindness anyone might have shown him when they were children is Very Possible. Despite the sad state of his home life, however, he still had the personality of a huge goofball, basically.

Horatio had always known he had a heart bigger than most. Even while Ophelia had held so much of his adoration and attention, she wouldn't always be the only one. He'd been grateful when he learned she could accept that-- Even more so when she could accept that it wasn't always women alone that caught his eye.

Now, of course, the man he's set his heart on is even more unattainable than usual. Hamlet is a prince, and one whose attention may very well be more on Ophelia now than it ever was on him.

At least Hamlet seems determined to keep him as a friend. At least it means he gets to be back in Denmark and get to see both the prince and Ophelia while he's here.

Hopefully Ophelia still thinks on him with as much fondness as he does her, even if he'd had to leave for school.

It's a tricky thing. Ophelia had known it would be a tricky thing for some time now, but she hadn't foreseen exactly the tangles they would wander into.

Things had been simple when they were younger. Even with the expansiveness of Horatio's heart, the world had been small enough not to get tangled. Laertes would get dragged off to court, and she would sneak off to talk to Horatio about his books and his thoughts and his bright fascinating future. Even falling into something childishly like love had been simple--despite the expansiveness of Horatio's heart, despite the fact that her father hardly cared for the thought, despite the constant teasing from her brother.

It was always going to be a tricky thing when he went off to Wittenberg. It was always going to be a tricky thing once her father started bringing her to court with him and meddling. It's just that she hadn't anticipated how tricky it would be until a kiss from Hamlet ended with a question about Horatio.

There's an odd knot or two in her stomach to hear Horatio will be back. Hopefully it won't translate too starkly to her face while she waits to see him.

Any nerves on her face are interpreted as his own anxieties being projected, thankfully. She'll probably recognize the obvious look of nervousness on his own face as soon as he spots her.

He'll still greet her with a dip of a bow and a kiss to her hand, if she lets him.

"Ophelia."

He's gotten taller since he left for school. If she focuses on that, it's a little easier to squeeze his fingers as his lips brush her knuckles.

"Horatio."

There's hesitation in the way she reaches up to smooth briefly and protectively at his cheek. It used to be such an easy thing.

"Are you well?"

"Well enough."

He lets himself press into her touch, a little nervously.

"Happy to see you."

That's simple. That's easy. That does, after all, genuinely lift her heart and flicker a smile properly back onto her lips.

"As I am to see you."

Uncertain of her own heart, uncertain of his, but incredibly elated at her core to have him home again. Her second hand joins her first and, in this odd moment of privacy, tugs gently, seeking to press a kiss to his forehead.

It's easy to let himself bend to allow the kiss to his forehead. Hopefully it's permitted that he do the same.

"And-- otherwise well, I hope?"

"Well enough."

Her arms shift fretfully before settling properly into place. This still feels right. This still feels natural.

Just... "Perhaps a bit... expansive, lately."

"Expansive, my lady?"

It's nice to feel that they still fit so well. He'll press a light kiss to her forehead, cautious but affectionate still.

This is a safe place. This is a safe man--one who still holds her like she's terribly precious and kisses her forehead like she's worthy of devotion; one who had shared the quiet pieces of himself so that their hearts could be easy together.

Her lips press briefly together, one arm shifting again to allow her fingers to comb absently in his hair.

"My heart has been... very full, Horatio."

“That’s good, is it not?”

The query is gentle as he leans his head into her touch.

“At least— full of joy, I hope?”

"Full of joy," she echoes readily enough. The rest has to be more careful. "Full of thoughts of you." And, as he'll hopefully understand, "Full of my lord Prince Hamlet as well."

She trusts Horatio. She trusts the affection between them. Her fingers tense nervously all the same.

Ah. That is something of a surprise. Still, he can hardly be angry-- especially with the obvious nerves on her face.

Her fingers are gently pulled up to his lips to press a kiss against them.

"I cannot fault you for that, my lady," he tells her with a soothing smile, "He is certainly one to-- think of."

He isn't pulling away. He isn't frowning and sighing and shutting down away from her. He's simply pressing a kiss to her fingers and smiling at her.

Her breath comes in a puff of relief.

"--he is. Remarkably so."

“You ought to have— seen him, while we’ve been in school.”

He can’t help the quiet admiration in his voice.

“You’d be— pleased, I think.”

Of course this is going well. This is Horatio.

"Are you?"

He sounds pleased, but it never hurts to hear.

"Oh, very."

There's a fond smile on his lips that he can't help.

"It's easy t'be-- pleased with him, though."

"As it is to be with you, Horatio."

It's important not to lose that. It's particularly important when it's still so easy to become lost in the safety of curling in close to him like this, as snug and secure as she's ever been.

It's an implication he's not entirely certain he's sure she means. They'll likely have to speak on it more when they're more properly alone.

For now, though, it's so easy to smile at and hold her.

"So long as that's still what you choose, Ophelia."
