The fact that you're in a relationship with this person isn't public knowledge. Actually, no one knows about it except for the people involved. Maybe you guys are just private like that; on the other hand, it may be a necessity to keep things a secret from others. Maybe you're both team mates, and others on the team would give you grief, or you're not supposed to be dating, or you're not the type to usually date and you're only testing the waters. Perhaps it's the combination of you two, possibly an odd couple, that would bring some controversy or some teasing. Or, you know, you could not want to deal with friends and relatives being busybodies. Your reasons are your own.

Are you content with stealing moments to be together as a couple? Do you want to make your relationship known and the fact that you can't drives you batty? Remember, there are lots of benefits to dating in secret. You can be yourselves completely, away from prying eyes, and get to know each other better as potential longterm romantic partners. In a way, it's ideal.

Bucky was entirely too old for this shit. He's sitting in one of Wakanda's grand rooms, a holographic television on, beer and food coming in hand over fist, and the only thing that he can process is just how too fucking old he is to be feeling this level of high school jealousy. He gets up from his spot on the couch next to Steve both to make himself conspicuous and to distance himself from the conversation Natasha is having with the two of them. He grabs a beer that does absolutely nothing for him and breaks the neck of it as he twists off the cap.

"Whoops," he apologizes with absolutely no feeling behind it. At least going to the kitchen to pour and throw this out will give him a break.

But it's really unfair for him to be feeling this way; he was the one who had said they needed to keep their relationship under wraps, after all. Bucky had been so convinced that Steve was going to wake up and realize that, history or not, he was a bad fucking match. And why then should he deal with the public fallout of not only being with a guy but also being with the Winter Soldier on top of it? No. It wasn't worth it. None of that was worth it. So they'd agreed. No one knew about this except for them. At least for now. Bucky had thought it was a great compromise.

But he forgot that Natasha liked to set Steve up with any girl running around them that she could find.

For the last fifteen minutes, Bucky had gone through a litany of eligible women that she just knew would say yes if Steve asked them. Of course Sharon was on the list. A few other names that he knew in passing but not in detail. He'd tried to watch TV and just let it pass, but then he'd been drawn in. Encouraged to help Steve up his game and get at least a date set up before the end of the world came.

It had just been too much. Of course Steve had options. Steve was amazing and anyone with eyes could see that. And, of course, when they inevitably decided to go back to being friends, he'd likely find someone else more suitable for him. Bucky just hadn't realized that there was already a list. A damned list waiting for his clock to run out.

He groans and pours the broken bottle of beer out and then just holds it in his hand, thinking. Borrowed time. He's always known he was on borrowed time. But if Steve was happy...that was what truly mattered. Of course that was what mattered.

Now if he could just stop being a fifteen year old, that would be fantastic.

Given how dedicated he is to his duties, keeping his work life and personal life separate, he would be quite secretive. If it were fellow Chocobros, he would be even more dedicated to keeping it under wraps.]

Probably more likely to want to keep things secret if it's a M/M relationship given how insecure he is about it. Alternatively, if there's another reason they need to keep quiet...]

[More likely for the other person's comfort, or to protect them because they are at war in space and he doesn't want to risk them being hurt.

Also his Space Children - the other Paladins - would never let him hear the end of it if they discovered Space Dad was with someone.]
