[ this is easily one of the worst missions he has ever been entangled in.

the apprehended flash drive was full of useful information, of course, but a lot of it was so oddly specific, in the end the port mafia needed to make a few calls and call in a few favors to make sense of a few things. unfortunately, the necessary informants were on their honeymoon and refused to leave their resort, meaning a small group had to be sent out to a beautiful beach town on miyako-jima. unfortunate, really.

akutagawa went apeshit on the right people, and was able to get his request for this mission approved. it was more simple than he'd realized; remain at the base until the informants come. do the exchanges, and after a few days come back with hopefully a better understanding of where to proceed with the overall mission.

if that wasn't bad enough, this "base" is actually an isolated house on the beach, meaning sweltering weather and the pungent, salty smell of the natural coast all around him. sure, the house was fully furnished and was impossible to leave anyone wanting, but akutagawa has spent enough time "among nature" as a child, and prefers the city and all its glowing lights any day.

oh well!!!!!!! at least he should be partnered with the object of his sweet, perpetual confusion. that makes up for some of this. not all, but some. it would certainly help if dazai would arrive already. for the time being, akutagawa is just knocked out on the couch, the exhausting plane ride easily catching up to his frail little body. ]

[ Unlike Akutagawa, Dazai fought tooth and nail to get out of this mission. But both the President and Kunikida has urgently decided that he was the best suited for it. Punishment, as far as Dazai can tell. And all of that was even before he was notified about who would be joining him.

Well. This should be interesting to say the least.

But Dazai, being who he is, still tries to get out of this, even at the last minute, mostly because he's lazy and second because it's Akutagawa he's to be paired with, and he's just not ready to face his parting words, even though he's the one who said them.

So of course he gets there much later than anticipated- tired and hot, still dressed to the nines in his usual coat and bandages. Definitely not beach weather. He's going to resist this for as long as he can.

When he gets to the house, he lets himself in, leaving his bags at the door as he goes to explore. He's stealthy about it too, knowing Akutagawa has likely already been here for a while and he seeks him out, finding hikm passed out on the couch. Ugh. This ally-ship has been..... good, for both the ADA and the Port Mafia, but Dazai is still trying to figure out how to handle these things from his past. These things that are now in his face. Akutagawa, for one.

He leans over Akutagawa like an asshole, way too close to his face, knowing he'll stir awake, because none of them sleep easily. But at the same time, he puts a finger against Aku's nose, nullifying Rashomon in case Akutagawa wakes by lashing out. ]

[ The thing is, he's not so sure where they stand anymore. You know, not that he ever really got a good handle on things before the end of the world, but frankly now there are just so many weird elements and outliers to the situation he doesn't know if he should even be in the same room as her, let alone settling down into a stool next to her at one of the many completely abandoned bars near their established HQ.

It's been a few weeks. The world has settled into the loss with a heavy sort of resignation. From an infrastructure standpoint, there's still chaos; nobody knows who's in charge anymore, and half the people running things have packed it in and holed up with what remains of their friends and families to lick their wounds. Some petty factions squabble for control, but the remaining Avengers don't seem to bother getting involved in politics. It's all hands on deck to try and find Thanos, to find the gauntlet, to put things right somehow.

As it turns out, a lot of the pressure is on the people who can actually leave the planet right now. Half the team ventures forth with Thor, the other half stay behind and await further instructions.

In this case, further instructions include awkwardly drinking.

He doesn't know what to say. They haven't really talked about it, and he's not sure what made him think now was a good time to bridge the gap. Here he is, though, with a double of whiskey and no real words. ]

[ She's never been good at waiting. If it's part of the mission she can be patient, wait things out until the right moment presents itself, but this... has no direction. Hope is something that she had slowly built over the last dozen years and she'd seen it blow away in the wind like so many of the people that she'd come to consider her friends. Her family.

She stays behind because someone has to and she knows Steve trusts her to keep things in line. She does what she can, but it's difficult waiting for the next step. If she's honest with herself, she's been keeping her distance from the others, maybe especially Bruce. She knows this numbness and she knows what comes when it wears off. She wants to hold onto it for as long as she can.

As he settles on the stool next to her, she thinks that maybe the waiting for this particular conversation is over. Not that she'd necessarily been in any hurry to have it. She glances over at him and gives him a small nod and a faint smile before taking a sip of her own drink. ]

I wondered when someone else was going to show up here.
