The Childhood Meme

THE CHILDHOOD MEME
Childhood. That magical time between infancy and adulthood where you feel invincible. Where you haven't a care or responsibility in the world. It's a time where imagination runs wild and every day is a new adventure waiting to be had.
While there's plenty of fun out there in the world of adults, there's nothing that quite compares to the innocence of those early years. So, grab your juice box, your favorite toy and remember to be back before the streetlights come on.
HOW TO PLAY:
○ This meme is targeted toward the younger end of the age spectrum (15 and under), but that doesn't mean older characters aren't welcome. Does your character have a soft spot for children? Are they typically the type to be the babysitter? Or maybe they're the older sibling being dragged along to keep an eye on the younger one? Aging down is also an acceptable option, haven't we all wondered what our characters would have been like as kids?
○ Comment with your character, canon, preferences, and any other info you'd like to include.
○ Reply to others.
○ Thread and have fun!
1. PLAYGROUND/PARK : The spot where all the best childhood memories are made. Are you playing a game of tag? Are you hanging upside down on the jungle gym? Are you getting into trouble while your mom is catching up on the latest gossip?
2. SCHOOL : The place where 75% of your day is spent and lifelong friendships are forged. Maybe you're in art class, maybe you're at recess, or maybe you're on a school field trip. The possibilities are endless. Just don't be that kid eating paste.
3. MALL : For the kids on the older end of the spectrum. Whether you're at the arcade, whether you're meeting with friends, or whether your parents gave you twenty bucks to get out of their hair, you've got the entire shopping mall at your disposal.
4. CIRCUS : It's the greatest show on earth! Lion tamers! Acrobats! Elephants! Feats meant to stun and amaze you! Cotton candy the size of your head! Are you watching the show from the stands? Or is your family a part of the show?
5. THEME PARK/AMUSEMENT PARK : It's a classic vacation that's fun for the whole family. Are you the roller coaster type? Or are you the type to shy away from the thrill rides and stick to the carousel instead? Keep a hold of someone's hand, though, the only thing that can ruin a day is a lost child in the park.
6. FAIR/FESTIVAL/CARNIVAL : The theme park on a smaller scale. Sometimes the rides are a little shaky, but there's plenty of good deep fried foods and games to be played. Go out and win yourself a goldfish!
7. NEVERLAND : Yes, you read that right. Just like in Peter Pan, it's the magical place where no one has to ever grow up and adults aren't welcome. What kind of adventures will you get into? Remember, it only takes a little bit of fairy dust and good thoughts to fly.
8. WILDCARD : None of these work for you? Go ahead and created your own!

[ Hizashi's lungs were burning as he ran down the hospital halls, ignoring the nurses who tried to tell him to slow down as he raced past them. It felt like every moment since he got the phone call was an eternity. Why couldn't he move faster, why couldn't he drive faster, why wasn't he already there. After all these years, it was the first time he had actually gotten a call as Shouta's emergency contact.
He had barely even given the doctor on the other end of the line time to explain what had happened -- Shouta had encountered some kind of insane quirk while on patrols. Hizashi didn't need to hear any more. If they were calling him, it was bad. All he could think of was Shouta's broken body at USJ, the long hours in the hospital waiting just to find out whether he was going to live or not.
When he checked in the front desk for Shouta's room number, he should have recognized that it wasn't an ICU room. He should have been able to see that he wasn't running straight into another hospital room like the aftermath of USJ. But he wasn't thinking, he was only counting the room numbers as he passed, shoving straight past the nurse outside the room once he spotted Shouta's number.
The sight inside was absolutely not what he was expecting. His first instinct that he's just barged into the completely wrong room. Instead of seeing his best friend, regardless of state, there's a teenage boy there. He feels like the wind was knocked out of him. Wasn't this the room number they told him at the desk? ]
I'm-- uh. Sorry. Sorry, wrong room. [ He's not sure if he's apologizing to the kid or the nurse. ]

Aizawa had tried to stop them from calling his emergency contact as he was fine apart from a few scrapes and bruises, a sore pride and that he was technically a teenager again, but Yamada was called anyway since he was now physically a minor.
Frantic footsteps could be heard rushing towards the room he sat in, this wasn't as bad as after the USJ attack so why was his friend hurrying? Had he been told something that the erasure hero hadn't? Was he trapped in this form and had to grow up naturally again?
Shouta's slightly panicked thoughts were stopped by the door to his hospital room flying open, a frazzled and confused vocal hero stood in the doorway muttering an apology.]
Zashi, it's me. [He called from the bed before the blonde had a chance to leave.]

W-what..?
[ His mind was trying to catch up. Shouta had been hit with some kind of weird quirk... did he listen long enough to find out what the quirk was? No, he had just instantly jumped to worst-case-scenario conclusions and went straight into panic mode. He looks again at the room number, just in case it had changed since five seconds ago, and then back at -- ]
Shouta..?

One of the villains I was chasing has an age regression quirk. [Shouta shifts to the edge of the bed as he explains, his feet a couple of inches off of the floor.] I can't be discharged without an adult claiming custody of me.
no subject
An age regression quirk.. [ A stray laugh bubbles up in disbelief, but the evidence is too clear in front of him. Out of context, with panic and adrenaline consuming him, Shouta had just looked like any other teenager. Now, it was obvious. ] Ahh, this is worse than when you had to shave for the press conference! [ The joke is a bit forced, but it does make it easier. Smiling and laughing was always easier for Hizashi. ]

we gonna do cheesy amusement park this time
So instead he's going to eat cheap sugary foods until he has to throw up in the nearest trashcan. As one does. At least his friends are hopefully having fun...]

It's time Mike swapped with one of the gang to go on another ride, but he'd rather stay with Will. It's funny - he finds being with Will just as thrilling as any rollercoaster. He comes back to Will after telling the others he's had enough of rides for now and they can keep going while he hangs out with Will. ]
I'm sick of rides. You're stuck with me for a while. [ He smiles at Will warmly. ] What do you wanna eat next?
no subject
Uhmmmm... [He's looking around, debating between frozen lemonade and cotton candy, when his gaze falls on the ferris wheel. His head whips back around and he immediately gives Mike his most pleading, beseeching face. Because, after all, those kinds of rides are for babies or old people, right?]
no subject
If he were Lucas or Dustin, he might roll his eyes or snort at the mere idea of going anywhere near the ferris wheel. But he's Mike, and even though the ferris wheel might be the most boring ride in the park to him, he'll go on it, for Will. And he won't complain. Much. ]
...You owe me. [ He elbows Will lightly in his side before making his way towards the ride. ]
no subject
Really? You're really gonna go with me?
no subject
Really. Now hurry up before I change my mind.
[ He won't change his mind, but let Will think that he could. ]

School~
Her feet, stinging from the scratches of the dead leaves and sticks she steps on, carry her far away and eventually up to a series of buildings. Children her age--around 6 or 7 years old--are filing out from the doors. Judging by how few remaining are getting ready to leave, it seems to her as if whatever was going on has finished for the day. There's no apparent reason for her to go inside, except maybe for the thunder in the distance threatening an impending storm.
The other kids give her weird looks. It's probably because they are fully clothed and she is draped only in an oversized hospital gown. She's torn; if these kids are going about their business without issue, maybe she can find sanctuary from the bad men inside. But maybe there are bad men inside waiting for her. She has no way of knowing.
At a complete loss about what to do next, she stands in place in the middle of the sidewalk leading up to the school entrance, unfazed by the gazes of passing judgmental students. She can't go back, but at this point, she has nowhere else to go.]

Mike sighs to himself. He should find a teacher and get them to call his mom, but he's always been independent, or likes to think he can take care of himself. He figures he'll just walk home. He hears thunder in the distance, but he's not scared.
Hitching his backpack higher on his shoulders in preparation for the long walk ahead, he's about to set off when he notices a boy (or so he thinks) with a shaved head standing in what looks like a hospital gown. It's the oddest sight he's ever seen, but unlike the kids around the stranger who give her weird looks and keep walking, some of them ushered quickly into cars as though they might catch whatever disease she has - Mike feels compelled to act differently. He walks up to the stranger, his expression a mixture of curiosity and concern. He's never seen the kid before. He clearly didn't go to this school. ]
Hey... Do you need help?
oh crud now would be a good time for Young Eleven icons
She does need help. She has no idea where to go or where to hide, she has adults bent on dragging her back to her hell of a home, and she doesn't know who to trust. But how can she vocalize all that? There doesn't seem to be any other options, so she decides to accept his help if he offers it.
The best she can do is nod, so she does meekly.]

You must be cold... [ He takes off his jacket and holds it out to her. He's got one of his knitted sweaters on which is more than enough layers to keep himself warm. ]
Where are your parents? At the hospital? [ He makes a guess judging by what she's wearing. Why else would she be dressed like that? Was she sick? ]
no subject
Her parents? Hospital?]
No.
[Her mood sours, though her expression barely changes. She's momentarily forgotten that she needs to hide from Papa. She looks behind her nervously as if she's expecting to be jumped. How does she express that she's in danger?]
No hospital.
no subject
You're not from the hospital? [ That confuses Mike. Then why was she dressed the way she was? How odd...
He focuses on getting her help, looking around the school parking lot for a car he recognizes, belonging to his favorite teacher. Where Mr. Clarke parks - his designated spot - is empty. ]
Mr. Clarke must have left already... He's one of the cool teachers. [ The teacher Mike felt most comfortable to ask for help and who he trusted the most. He thinks what to do next. ] Um... maybe you should just come back to my house? Then you can use our phone to call... whoever you need to call. [ Whoever looks after her? ] I think a storm's coming so we should really get a move on.
no subject
Yes.
[She steps closer to him as a sign she's ready to follow him wherever he needs to go. One thing must be clarified, though:]
I don't want to call anyone.
The playground. Two threads for the price of one!
But all the kids are already playing with each other. She doesn't know how to begin interacting with them. They don't stay in one place long enough for her to attempt to get their attention and ask to be included, assuming she can find the appropriate words to do so. She doesn't even know what games they're playing anyway. A bit self-conscious and uneasy, she resigns herself to sitting on a swing far from the other kids, watching them with longing and on the verge of tears. Her first time outside and she's already having a miserable time.]
no subject
He's never felt like he fits in, so it comes as no surprise that Mike doesn't start playing with the other kids as soon as he arrives. He manages to find a quieter spot instead. There's only one other kid there on a set of two swings. Once he's close enough to see her face, he can see she's upset about something. It distracts him from how upset he is over his own parents. ]
Do you want me to push you? [ Mike breaks the silence. ] Swinging is way more fun when someone's pushing you.
no subject
Swinging?
[Is he talking about this thing she's sitting on? You're supposed to swing on it? It's not just for sitting awkwardly? She looks up and puts two and two together. Oh. If you sit and someone pushes you, you swing back and forth. It could be fun if she knew how to do it. Maybe. If he pushes her lightly. And she's careful.
There's something about this boy that puts her more at ease. He's approached her, yes, but he's being more kind about it than she would have expected from the kids here on the playground. She hasn't seen him playing with the others yet though. Maybe he doesn't know the games they're playing either.
She eventually turns to sit on the swing with her hands on each chain. If she's going to be pushed, this would be a safer way to sit. With a nod of acceptance, she grips the chains tightly and raises her feet slightly off the ground so he can push her easily. Without speaking, she looks up at him and raises her eyebrows to convey the fact that she's curious if she's doing it right.]
no subject
Eventually she seems to grasp what he's saying and moves into a better position for him. He walks up behind her and she turns to look at him with big, round eyes...
She's pretty. Mike realizes just how pretty is now he's standing close to her and he blushes slightly at the thoughts he's having, as though she can read his mind. ]
Ready? [ Once she gives him a nod, he starts off with a light push against her back, enough to propel her forward, but not too much. He doesn't know if she scares easily, so he goes easy on her, for now. ]
no subject
At this point, she's starting to forget about envying the other children. This boy seems awful nice. She's already having fun with him. He hasn't made her feel bad for not understanding how the playground works. Maybe they can even become... friends. Maybe they can have as much fun together that the other kids are having with each other. Now that she knows what to expect on the swing, she turns around to look at him and smiles, silently urging him to continue.]
no subject
It has to be her first time swinging and any other kid in the playground probably would have walked away from her at this point, finding her weird for never experiencing something that shouldn't be new to her. But not Mike. He just wants to help.
He gives her another push, harder this time, and when she swings back to him, he pushes at her again. And again. ]
Is this okay? [ He checks in on her in case it's too much. There's a certain vulnerability about her that makes Mike feel inclined to ask. ]
