☽✩ the werewolf pack (au) romance meme ✩☾

There are many supernatural beings that congregate in groups for survival or protection or just for companionship, not unlike humans. Witches have covens. Vampires have nests. But none of those have connections that can compare to the bond of a werewolf pack.
You should know. You're part of one, either born a werewolf or turned. For humans, blood is thicker than water; for wolves, the pack is to the bone. Of course, with humans, romantic relationships can complicate closeness of other sorts. That's not the case with werewolf pairings, as they tend to grow out of natural pack dynamics and are viewed as just another facet of life. The only difference is that werewolves tend to treat relationships, even potential would-be-mates, with extreme seriousness.
After all, you'll fight for your pack, so you'll fight for your mate, won't you?

✩ prompts ✩
☽ Born: Your parents were werewolves. Any children you have will be wolves, too. ☾ The Turning Process: Like any transformation, the after effects of the bite are painful. Luckily ☽ With Who Turned You: You're romantically or sexually linked to your "creator," so to speak, probably because you have nowhere else to go. They seem to treasure you, though, no matter how much they hide it. ☾ Alphas: Both of you are top of the pack. ☽ Alpha and Beta: It's a classic case of the leader and the second in command: a perfect team up. ☾ Omegas: You two find solace in each other even when you're ☽ Closer Than Family: The romantic and platonic lines are blurred. You honestly can't ☾ Outside Threat: Your pack and your loved one is threatened. What won't you do? ☽ Reluctant: You don't want to be with anyone, but it's expected and they're the closest in the pack to you... ☾ All I've Ever Known: All you've ever known is the werewolf existence, the pack, and them. Of course you would never want to lose that. ☽ Can't be Together: You two should not be considering a potential pairing, either due to your status difference or because your alpha has proclaimed there will be no inter-pack mingling. ☾ Everyone Else Was Taken: You had no other option; everyone else was paired. ☽ Protector: Every pack has an instinctive protector or nurturer. You've lucked out and ended up with them. ☾ A Natural Closeness: It doesn't matter to you what you're defined as. You've always been close and you'll stay that way. ☽ Affection: Werewolves show their love in different ways that humans. Nuzzling and licking aren't considered odd at all. ☾ Fall into Step: The two of you have your pack positions and proclivities and they're the same in your relationship. ☽ Reverse: The submissive in the pack becomes a dominant in the relationship and vice versa. ☾ Two-Man Pack: The rest of your pack is gone, and you two have to stick it out. ☽ Rogue: You were once a lone wolf, but a special person brought you into the fold. Understandably, you're attached to them. ☾ Kin but Not: "Family" doesn't mean exactly the same thing in werewolf society as it does in human. There are fewer taboos between "siblings." ☽ Disciplined: You're a rule breaker, and your partner has to reel you in. ☾ Living Straight: Neither of you wants to hurt humans...yet there's always that urge. ☽ Bad Duo: Killing people and raising hell are your specialties. You're a real supernatural Bonnie and Clyde. ☾ Unrequited: Even werewolves can have feelings that aren't returned. However, it's an even more fragile scenario, given that you must still be pack after this. ☽ Got Your Back: Together, you hunt and fight. Always together. ☾ Love Outside the Pack: You've found love outside the pack, which is the ultimate sin. Everyone who isn't pack should be your enemy! The other person in this thread can be a human, vampire, etc. ☽ Life Mates: Wolves mate for life. Needless to say, this is not something you should go into lightly. ☾ Heat: The obligatory smut option. ☽ Fight for the One: Someone wants to challenge you for your mate. There's no question as to whether or not you'll fight for them - but will you kill? ☾ Leave: One of you wants to leave the pack. Will the other come along, or are ties too strong? ☽ A Brutal End: The life of a werewolf, especially those who let sentiment cloud their judgement, can be painfully brief. ☾ WILDCARD |

wild card / outside help has arrived!
She knew that something was going down tonight, and even though she was some ‘useless human’ as some people called her, she was not going to let that stop her from helping Scott from whatever supernatural entity had decided to harm him and his pack. Again.
She might be a human, but more importantly, she was a scientist. One did not become a scientist without learning how to notice things—one did not become a scientist without going on a few research tangent binges either.
Oh, Jane knew that werewolves existed.
She also knew that vampires, fairies, and all other things that went bump in the night existed. She had known for years. It was just polite to let the secret holders tell the secret, you know? Just because she happened to gather enough evidence on the internet and in some … slightly sketchy bookstores … and ran into a witch who was wondering why some little human was poking around her shop for a little too long did not mean she could be all, ‘What up my dudes with fur?’ That was a one way ticket to getting her throat ripped out, an etiquette book said.
The furry issue aside, Scott was a good guy. He was intelligent, compassionate, and had a bright future ahead of him. Sure, he was a bit troubled and rebellious, but he was a teenager. So were his friends, who were obviously his pack. They all were. They didn’t always make the best decisions, but until adults decided to help them instead of complain about how they were going to ruin the planet, teenagers had to help themselves.
Hence why she was in her jeep, risking a speeding ticket towards a fight between a werewolf with a hero complex and a vampire trying to take over the territory with some homemade bombs of sodium and chlorine, holy water, and a few wooden steaks in the passenger’s seat. One did not become a scientist without learning how to think ahead, just a little bit.
The jeep screeched to a halt. She wasted no time in grabbing one of her bombs. Calling out Scott’s name would just ruin the element of surprise. The small, delicate glass bottles inside the mason jar broke when she threw it.
A huge explosion enveloped the vampire.
omg I love her
It hadn't been just bad luck that Scott had crossed paths with the vampire, he had noticed the smell of blood in the air and came to investigate. He had tried to reason with the vampire, at first, just at Charles would have wanted. They were all trying to survive here, there was no point in causing each other's grief, they had enough of that with the humans. He got a long bloody scratch on his shoulder and arm for his troubles and the comfort that the vampire's claws had missed his neck. Enhanced reflexes were an advantage when you had to fight someone with a really bad temper, long fangs and who could also fly. Scott, however, had some pretty long claws of his own and a really strong bite when pissed off. And so, they threw themselves at each other.
He heard the jeep approached before it showed up, and that gve him a few seconds to react and get out of the way. For a moment, he wasn't sure about what had happened until the mixed smells of the homemade bombs reached his sensitive nose. There was a long, loud screech coming from the melting vampire before it dissolved into nothing, leaving a trace of sulphur on his wake. Why these disgusting creatures always smelled like that after getting in contact with holy water was beyond him but Scott took a few steps back in disgust. Eyes focussing on the Jeep now, he relaxed only when he saw Jane.
"I wasn't expecting the cavalry." He clutched his bleeding arm, wincing briefly before smiling at the woman. "Thank you."
baww thanks :D
“No one really expects me.”
Honestly, most people didn’t. She was the know-it-all, the girl with her nose always in a book, the teacher’s pet. She was fine with that, because it meant ninety-nine percent of the world wasn’t paying attention to her when she did something that was ‘out of the norm’ for a science geek. Like do her best to get a doctorate before high school graduation. Better yet, adults trusted her because she was smart and ‘responsible’. That was how she got permission to use the chemicals in her bombs. As for the holy water that kick started that chemical reaction, she was pretty sure the priest knew what she was really doing, but still.
No questions asked was a really, really awesome policy with certain adults.
“Come on, we’d better get you patched up before you bleed to death there.”
Hopefully, any enhanced healing would kick in soon.
And she could answer any questions he might have on the way back to where his den was. If he was going to direct her there. Or maybe they’d head back to the school to keep that a secret? Have someone he knew pick him up for added security? She really needed to reread that etiquette book and not skip any sections. The ‘den’ section sounded so cheesy, but there was a chance that there was a modern non-Tolkien form of it.

"Make sure that doesn't change, it works to your advantage." Even as the unpleasant sulfur still lingered in the air Scott could decipher the different notes that made Jane's scent. They were soothing in the way familiarity brought calmness, even if they didn't know each other all that well. He eyed the car suspiciously but got inside after a few seconds, careful not to stain anything with blood.
"Have you been in a church recently?" Normal people couldn't detect his kinds of things but a werewolf's sense of smell could trackback scent even after hours, or even days, and her clothes had a distinctive odor. It was the kind of incense that was used at Catholic Churches.
Scott stopped nursing his injured brain to look up at Jane briefly, imagining the questions going on insider her smart, little head. As much as she liked Jane, he couldn't risk telling her about where the rest of his pack was, even if the school was a public place. Jane would connect the dots if he told her to drive him to the mansion.
It wasn't safe for them and it wasn't safe for her either, some members of his 'family' might find it too risky for a normal human to know that much about them, even if the Professor was always trying to improve their relationships.
"Ehm...could you drop me anywhere near the town's center?"

“Just don’t be surprised if I win a Nobel Prize or something, kay?”
As much as it worked to her advantage at times, it also really sucked to have people think she possessed anything less than a genius level of intelligence. Sure, she sometimes forgot her lunch at home or got lost in a new place while on vacation, but those were typical things. Everyone did them and she got back home just fine, didn’t she? So what if the people she asked directions for turned out to be ‘on the wrong side of the tracks’ as the locals said? They were nice!
And Scott wouldn’t stain anything too badly. The seats were leather and meat tenderizer not only got out the stains, but destroyed evidence of proteins better than bleach.
“Uh, yeah. That’s where I got the holy water. I figured that since there was a vampire, why not go all out? Glad to know the sodium and chlorine works. So … I think Father Flanagan might be on your side. Better send over an official representative or someone, just in case.”
He seemed like a nice, older man who served the religious needs of the community, but one never knew.
At his request, she nodded, understanding his reasoning. The den was secret, private, classified need to know only. Now that she was thinking about it a bit more, she had to keep her own level of secrecy too. Until more people were okay with her knowing, if they ever found out about her knowing what she did. “The park okay? No one should really see you there.”

"I will be in the first row clapping when that happens."
When, not 'if'. He's sure Jane can do that and more. "uh, if one's allowed to clap during that kind of ceremonies."
He nodded, acknowledging the information about Father. His pack tried to keep to themselves, protecting those who were like them and not bothering human or other species. The problem was that sometimes problems came to find them. it was always good to know they had unexpected friend in important places.
"The park is perfect, thank you." Scott gave her a relieved smile when Jane didn't press the issue or asked about where he was usually staying at night. "Not to sound ungrateful or anything but how did you know I was having trouble? That was great timing on your part."

That vote of confidence made her smile, a warm feeling grow in her chest.
She understood—sometimes lying was necessary, even when your conscious was screaming at you to end the whole charade. But she saw the obituaries, heard the news reports, saw people speculating what really happened online. Some of the conspiracy theories were pretty wild, but no one really got close to the truth. Probably for the best.
“You’re welcome.”
Hopefully, the rest of his pack would agree with that thought. Having someone sympathetic towards them on the outside looking in could be useful, like tonight. Besides, she was raised to help others when there was trouble. How could she not help one of her friends?
“Uh …” She trained off as they hit a stoplight, drumming her fingers on the steering wheel nervously. “Well. Remember how no one really expects me? That makes them put their guard down around me, because what can a regular human do? So. I notice things, I put pieces together. Kind of also helps that Bram Stoker’s Dracula was really, really well researched.”
