Stolen Moments.

the stolen moments meme.
Time spent with the person you care the most for is a precious, invaluable thing. Most people take it for granted, though, as they can be with their beloved as much as they'd like. But not you. You and the one you love are kept apart - for whatever reason.
Today, though, you get a rare private moment with them. This is the first time in quite a while, and may be the last time in months, if not years. What do you do? Comfort each other? Hold each other tight? Have sex? Argue? The specifics are up to you; mix and match your canons, tag someone new to see how this stolen moment plays out.

Éponine is usually the wild card, but some stray piece of Enjolras's mind had caught hold of the fact she would be home during the day. Some fluke of his own schedule puts him nearly back on their own doorstep when he's meant to be grabbing lunch (something Combeferre and Courfeyrac have gotten surprisingly good at checking up on, lately).
Maybe she won't be home. Maybe she'll be busy. Still, surely it was the right thing to do to stop home for a bite to eat. Surely, if there were a chance of running into his wife for a few minutes in the middle of the day, that was an important step to continued family cohesion.
He doesn't call out when he lets himself in, dropping his bag softly by the door.

She's chewing on the end of a pen when Enjolras enters, earbuds in her ears. She's found that it forces her to focus, shutting the world out around her just for a little while. It's for this reason that she doesn't notice her husband return, even as she changes one book for another, muttering to herself. "'c'mon, something something Waterloo..."

It still takes a minute, because he hadn't expected he'd see them in his own home after the slight debacle with the pamphlets.
The sight arrests him briefly in the kitchen door. This isn't something he wants to interrupt. This isn't something he wants to encroach on and force toward an expectation rather than a thing Éponine has decided to do for herself and her own reasons. This feels like something that ought to be treated delicately by someone with more finesse than his usual blunt-force support.
Maybe the edge of a very natural smile will help smooth things as he takes a few steps into the kitchen, heading for the refrigerator but swinging close to where a little wave might catch his wife's attention.

And he has definately seen her books. The ones she's kept carefully hidden in the back of her closet. She wanted to surprise him. But now he's gonna be a dick about it, expect her to spend her hours studying. Fuck fuck fuuuuck.
If he knows what's good for him, he won't mention it. Ever. Because mentioning it is how you get Eponine to immediately stop doing the thing.
She pulls her headphones down and gives him a wave. "I didn't hear you come in." She closes the laptop, and the books, trying to hide the titles. If he asks, she's helping Azelma with homework.

"I wasn't sure you were home."
Beginning to pick through the refrigerator hopefully provides his wife enough cover to do whatever she feels she needs to do with her computer and notebooks and everything.
"Have you eaten yet?"
no subject
“You know me, I’m always home. What time is it anyway?” Yes, she’d lost track of time doing her work. She looks at the kitchen clock and curses under her breath.
“No- I’ll have whatever you’re having, though.” She would eat anything if it was put in front of her.

Heating them up will be the quickest way to get two people fed. It isn't quite the same as cooking for her, but it's got to be better than slapping together sandwiches and rushing.
"Can you grab a fork?"
no subject
Still, she pulls two forks out of the drawer and hands one to her husband.
no subject
"You're sure? Be quick to heat up."
And that seems like the gentlest way to fuss without calling attention to anything.
no subject
"Sure- but if you're heating it up do it in the oven, the microwave keeps the middle cold."
no subject
It's not an actual rule, of course, but it's said in the tone of something firm and immovable. Teasing isn't entirely natural in Enjolras, but the effort is surely at least recognizable by now.
Moving to set a plate of pizza into the stove is also probably a sign.
