[ They're out of the fire. Nat's got Sam, Steve's got Lang, and he's waiting for her to send him the all clear. This temporary hole in the wall has clean running water and a well-stocked first aid kit. Just the one mattress, which is going to Lang, as Steve doesn't intend to sleep. Heavy curtains cover the window, but noise still drifts up from the street below: voices, car horns, street food carts rolling past them. He's going to have to go out, in about an hour or so. Gotta love that metabolism. ]

This needs stitches.

[ Steve narrows his eyes, looking over the nasty cut on Lang's arm. He doesn't sense any regret — Lang's relentless cheerfulness seems to smother any worst case scenario, like he can just sneak through all the cracks and get to the other side, two thumbs up. Not Steve's way, which is shield up and barrelling in, knowing the obstacle will crumple before he does. Old habits, back alleys. ]

[If Jason could walk, he would be out of here. Hell, if his attempt to walk away hadn't resulted in a bone nearly bursting out of the skin on his leg he would already be gone.

Instead he sits on the asphalt, back against a wall in the first stages of collapsing, with paint flakes peeling off onto his broad shoulders. Perfect. Lead poisoning on top of injury (and no he doesn't care if you have to eat it for that to be true) is just the cherry on the shitty night sundae.

He contemplates crawling to escape, or hopping, but that's just too humiliating. He's lost his jacket and his own utility belt in the mini-explosion.

Well. Let's back up. He was walking down the street, and he spotted the boy's foot, and the foot was an interesting color that led his eyes further into the alley, and in he marched.
