1. Crime Scene: Dead body? Burglary? Whatever the crime, it's been sectioned off for the officers to investigate this nefarious deed, and you're getting a good look at it.

2. Hole-in-the-wall: Prohibition's such a joke to society, and this is where the fashionable ones come to hang out and gossip. Perhaps a police officer or two will show up to investigate, but no one ever takes that seriously.

3. Docks at Night: The breeze caressing your face, the sound of the water, the boats passing by...maybe you were called here, or maybe you just like the peace it brings.

4. Alleyway: There's only one way in and out of this little corridor, and what happens in it is up to you and the other character. Just watch for the shadows, if you can see through the fog.

5. Detective's Office: Not too clean, not too messy. Just perfect for the person that's needed to get this mystery cleared up.

6. Rooftop: The wind dramatically blowing about, it's the perfect place to get that person to come and meet you so you can tell them what you want. Or if you're evil, why not kill them up here? It'll be hard to escape you.

7. Dressing Room: For some reason, you're backstage after a performance, and you've gotten into one of these. The mirrors, the costumes, the flowers from fans and the various personal affects...all are present and will be your silent witnesses to whatever occurs.

8. Hideout: You've gotten to the antagonist's spot of choice. Is this a glitzy nightclub with a private room, or is this an abandoned warehouse where they-or you-carry out their plot? The choice is yours.

9. Nightclub: Someone's showcasing their talent tonight, and you may or may not care about it. But it's classic, dimly lit, and it's easy to hide in here.

10. Free choice

Possible relationships:

1. Friends: Maybe you're an unstoppable team, or perhaps your relationship is getting strained. But whatever the situation, you know this person, and you'd be there for them.

2. Coworkers/teammates/classmates: You might not be friends, but you know this person well enough to remember their name. And right now you're being thrown together for a reason.

3. Lovers: This is the one you wanted to stay with for now. Married, dating, or maybe an affair, but you two care about each other enough.

4. Enemies: Utter hatred flows through your veins when you hear this person's name. This is the one you want to take down, and you just might stop at nothing to achieve your goal.

5. Family: Perhaps it's a sibling you're meeting. Or your parent, or some form of relative. Remember that phrase "blood is thicker than water"? It just might apply here.

6. Mysterious Stranger: Someone's been eyeing you from across the room, or you've been eyeing them. Will you two speak, or shall they float out of your life? Do they hold information you seek, or do they want something from you?

7. Femme Fatale: You are or have encountered a mysterious and seductive woman, whose charms ensnare her lovers in bonds of irresistible desire, often leading them into compromising, dangerous, and deadly situations. Watch out, you might just get yourself into a real mess of trouble, hot stuff.

Mat walks into the office dripping puddles on the floor. The rain outside was coming down in sheets, and he didn't have the time to wait out the storm.

It had been over a week since Tuon had gone missing. She'd left a note, but to just disappear without even a call, that wasn't like her.

The agency had been recommended through a friend - the people were clean enough, and unlike the bulls, not likely to cost an arm and a leg.

Mat leans back against the wall, sinking back into shadow; a hand lifted to shield the flame as he lights up a cigarette. The night is young yet, and if he wants this pack to last, he'll have to pace himself.

There had been rumors of people looking for him - a gambler is never short of friends or enemies - and he trusted Thom enough to listen when he's suggested setting up a meeting for more information when a possible source came calling.

It's why he's freezing his nose off on the bloody rooftop of the Holiday Inn, there's only one exit and a quick solution in case of trouble.

Zoey knows better than to meet an unknown quantity at night in a location not of her choosing. Let alone when that location is a rooftop. But she’s heard rumours about Mat Cauthon; a gambler, a ladies’ man (the level of such always depending on whatever rumour monger or gossip mill one listens to), but generally not the worst sort of bloke. Zoey’s met worse sorts of blokes; one of the hazards of her job. So when she turned up information about people looking for him... she purposefully let the information slip to the right people.

Of course, that doesn’t explain why she decided to take the meeting face to face. A fit of whimsy, perhaps. It would probably seem as such, to the few who know her well enough to be able to judge with any certainty. Of course, those that know her well enough to be able to judge would know that it was never just whimsy; she has been a P.I too long to just faff about whimsically. In this case she simply... knows. And her instincts have always served her well.

So here she is, scaling nimbly up to the roof of a Holiday Inn of all places. The familiar smell of cigarette smoke greet her as she lands silently on the rooftop. He's undoubtedly in the shadows; it's what she would have done had their roles been reversed. “So. You’re Mat Cauthon,” she said by way of both greeting and announcing her presence. She’s fully able to defend herself if need be, but she’d rather not end up either needlessly injured or needlessly injuring him before he’d listened to what she had to say.

[The low chatter of the nightclub's crowd subsides as the lights dim and a spotlight shines on the closed, shimmering black curtain hiding the stage. A smile tugs on Irene's lips as the attention of the crowd focuses with almost laser-like focus on the stage, and she raises the Sazarac in her hand to her lips.

The curtains part with a soft sigh and a sweet, almost luminously pale redhead takes the stage. The crowd's attention is still riveted to the singer, and Irene settles in to wait. No doubt, with the crowd's attention completely on the singer on stage, the individual she was to meet would show up soon.]

Guess who's in the cells. Again. It isn't her fault this time, she's been sane all evening and once her alibi shows up she'll be able to prove it, but she was in the area and that's good enough for the police to bring her in. She's had fits in the past but the most she's done is yell at people and destroy minor property while in the grip of some waking nightmare. Murder, feels Alice, is a bit of a stretch. At least murder of someone she's never met.

Alice resigns herself to their questioning with an air of boredom, occasionally lapsing into snide barbs when they get aggressive. She was working until eight, then she went to meet a friend for a late coffee and a chat. At ten she went home, read a book and slept.

The friend was Natasha Romanoff, go look it up. The cafe was Red Eye, at Berteau and Lincoln. They spoke of ships and sealing wax and really, is any of this necessary? I didn't murder anyone tonight.

Cigarettes are the fashion these days, but Alice prefers the pipe. Nostalgia, perhaps. Smoke spills out between her lips as she walks the line of the docks, disinterested in the sailors and thugs working around her.

With her record of asylum visits and general unpredictability, she's not managed much better than a cook at a disreputable little restaurant near the docks. Off shift now, making way for the brusque night cook, but she's still got her apron on. The cool sea air is blowing the kitchen's heat from her reddened skin. A bit of time with the pipe and the sea and she'll be ready for the walk home.

Bone chilling winds, the kind that could turns your breath from a cloud to a snowball and your nose into a bad impression of a leaky faucet; Overcast night skies, laden with a payload they are only too happy to share; the dockyard couldn't ask for a more intensely dreary night. Perfect weather for those that prefer to work in shadow. All too appropriate for this meeting.

Perhaps it was chance that I was drawn here, leather jacket whipping about, a flimsy veil against the icy blustering of the night air. The card I'd found read 8:30 in sweetly scrawling letters.

After looking around, I couldn't say I was appreciative of the locale. Memories, Ghosts were stirring, prodding at the back of head, itching to make an encore. Squeezing my elbow closer, pressing my Beretta closer to my side I entered the maze.
