a [crossover pairing encouraged] shipping meme

a [crossover pairing encouraged] shipping meme
Crossover pairings are fun. Arguably, they can be one of the best parts of panfandom RP. After all, there's nothing quite like that spark when two characters just "click," especially when it was completely unplanned. AWESOME.
Unfortunately, in a lot of shipping memes here and elsewhere, the environment isn't really conducive to spontaneity. People usually just stick to castmates or close friends, and don't tag out due to lack of knowledge of canons or just plain intimidation. That's not fun for those of us who want to throw caution out the windows and just try crazy things, like throwing a Thor at a Sailor Moon (which, really, isn't that crazy of an idea if you look at the mythos for both series...).
This meme's for you, risk takers, crack shippers, or people who just want something new. Go. Play. Don't let anything stop you. Don't know where to go with an idea? Wing it! The prompts here are not the super specific variety that most ship memes have, where you almost have to have canon knowledge. Want to reply to a character but have no idea where to begin? Make things up! The more creative, the better.
The Steps
- Make a comment with your character, canon, preferences, etc in the subject.
- Comment to other characters! Use the RNG, first rolling for category (1-3) and then for prompt.
- This meme was created for crossovers, and that's heavily encouraged, but no one is going to hunt you down if you play with a castmate. Just try to remember the purpose of the meme, okay?
- HAVE FUN
Two Ways to Play
#1 (the buildup)
- Start with the first category, which is how the characters meet. Play that as you see fit. THEN, do a timeskip! If you don't know what that means, it's when you handwave that time has past. Assume the characters have known each other for a while. Move on to a prompt in the next category. Rinse, repeat. You can build a relationship!
#2 (the regular)
- Just play it as usual. Roll for category, then for prompt.
The Categories
1. The beginning
2. The relationship
3. Years later
I. How We Met & the Sparks Flew Instantly (The Beginning)
1. First meeting (no matter how mundane or impossible!)
2. First date
3. Blind date
4. Arranged courtship/marriage
5. Hate at first sight
6. One night stand
II. People Would Say "They're the Lucky Ones" (The Relationship)
1. Confession (TELL ME HOW YOU REALLY FEEL)
2. Taking care of you
3. Meeting the family/showing you home
4. First time
5. FIGHT
6. Marriage proposal
III. One Day We'd Tell the Story of Us (Years Later)
1. Moving in together
2. BABIES or kids
3. Together again after a long seperation
4. Ending the relationship
5. Old (married) couple, aka Still in Love After All these Years
6. At the end of life

[It's a long walk to get to and from school, but she's got an umbrella to keep her from getting wet, and a best friend to keep her from getting bored. Orihime got to class early, taking her usual seat. She could go over her homework one more time, but...]
[...]
[Yeah, she'd much rather daydream until Akira shows up. All of the rumors about the Phantom Thieves have caught her attention as well as her imagination. They took down the P.E. teacher. And a crooked artist! They're so cool! Her pencil moves back and forth over the paper, making idle arcs. Then she starts making shapes. And before long she's drawing herself as a Phantom Thief, which is pretty much just a big ghost costume with a bandanna over the eyes, clutching a bag of money that has the yen sign crossed out in favor of a heart.]
Ha ha!
[Well she thinks it's funny, anyway. The shuffle of footsteps pulls her attention to the door and she straightens hopefully.]
[But it's not him.]
[She goes back to her doodle, putting in a few extra details and short shading lines. It's true that he's got a criminal record, she supposes, but she has no idea what he could have done to earn that. He always seems so nice and polite. Most of all, he's hilarious! He makes great action poses in that church, and the cat that rides around in his bag is so cute.]
[The door slides open, and this time she isn't disappointed. She immediately stands to her feet, hands planted on the desk.]
Good morning, Kurusu-kun!
[Her day is made.]
no subject
Oh, hey there. [ There's no helping the smile once he sees her. ] Full of energy as always.
[ Wiping his steamy glasses as he walks over, Akira catches a glimpse of the drawing. ]
What is it?
[ With his bag placed on top of the desk next to hers, Akira takes his seat, quite curious about what is Orihime up to. ]
no subject
[She sits down as well, but turns in her seat to better face him as she holds up the pad of paper. Orihime lowers her voice conspiratorially.]
It's my secret disguise as a future Phantom Thief. It's important to hide your identity, and there won't be any distinguishing features for people to recognize! I'm a little proud of it.
[She's not even one bit embarrassed to show it off...]
I know everyone asks them for help on the website. But I thought...maybe I'd offer to help them instead. Maybe I can be a secret resource!
[She lays the paper on her lap, the cheery grin fading to something more thoughtful.]
...Do you think they would be okay with that? Or would they think I'm being condescending assuming that they'd even need any help? They're very competent after all.
no subject
Wouldn't joining them be more exciting, though?
[ He can already tell that Mona is going to make his life hell after this and give him a lecture on how he should be more careful. Also will make him go to bed early. But that's every night, actually. ]
But they probably need as many resources, too...
[ Still eyeing the picture, Akira's smile grows even wider. ]
What do you think, what would I look like as a Phantom Thief?
no subject
[She wouldn't expect to be invited just like that, naturally. It's just something she likes to imagine. Still, she appreciates that he humors her and shares in the fun.]
[When he asks that question, though, Orihime leans back, studying his smiling face.]
Kurusu-kun...as a Phantom Thief...?
[The image practically explodes into her mind. He'd be so dashing and handsome and gallant, swooping through windows gracefully, swinging on chandeliers...! Akira, a superhero Phantom Thief. How wonderful that would be...]
[Pink warms her cheeks at the very thought.]
Y-you would...there would be stylish shades, and a high collar...
[No, this won't do. She's not describing it right, and she doesn't think words could possibly do it justice.]
Hold on...!
[Orihime picks up her pencil and slaps the pad of paper firmly onto the desk, and draws with feverish intensity. There isn't much time before class starts, so she can't really imbue her artwork with the full majesty he deserves. The proportions are off, and it's in pencil with no color, but...yes, that should do it!]
There. I didn't make enough room to show the rocket-powered boots so you can escape through any skylight, or the hidden laser-chainsaw up the sleeve for cutting glass and sneaking into a window, but it's good for a rough draft!
[Proudly, she holds up his very own illustration. Behold: Phantom Akira. His right arm shoots flames with high intensity!]
new dlc outfit comfirmed, oh my god. that's so adorable!!
That's me. Totally me, all right.
[ Mona is peeking from the bag, the all-seeing cat eye. Akira already can tell that a laughing fit is going to happen and he shakes the bag a little. As much as he'd like to ask Orihime for the picture, perhaps it will be safer to let her hold onto it. ]
If I only had this outfit... [ That would be...something, certainly. ] I really like it. But I had no idea you like them that much. The Phantom Thieves.
Revolutionary FASHION!
I could probably sew most of it! I wouldn't know where to get the belt and other accessories, though.
[She lays the pad back down before turning to face Akira again.]
It would be hard not to like them. So many people's lives were changed for the better. They're brave, and heroic...
[Her shoulders hitch as she clasps her hands happily in front of her.]
It's kind of exciting to see real heroes making a difference! I wish I could do the same, really.
[Her head turns and she gazes thoughtfully at the ridiculous drawing.]
Maybe if we both applied together, they'd be more likely to accept us for training...
no subject
[ That statement gets a genuine chuckle out of him.
A blush creeps on his face when Orihime starts explaining why does she admire the Phantom Thieves and he needs to turn his face away for a moment. It's silly, they're not doing this to be popular nor to have people compliment them. Yet...it feels sort of nice, having such support. ]
Maybe you can't do what they can, but everyone can make a difference.
[ The thought of applying for a position of a Phantom Thief is both amusing and endearing. ]
But what should we write in our applications? They won't take just anyone.
no subject
[It's much easier for her to write Akira's qualifications, and admittedly, she's tempted to use his criminal record as a selling point -- he's willing to thwart the law for the greater good! But since she doesn't know what he did...well, that might be a sensitive subject for him.]
[Her head is bent in thought just as the teacher walks in and tells them to settle down and open their books. Orihime stiffens to attention and shoots a quick look at Akira with a hurried whispered promise.]
I'll write you a letter of recommendation!
[She flips to a clean sheet of paper (inadvertently saving him from any undue embarrassment if the teacher were to see it and show the class) and writes a little at a time. She doesn't want to be disrespectful, but she's all fired up at the thought of writing application letters to the Phantom Thieves. Will it work? Probably not! But Akira indulged her imagination, and she can't help feeling that it's worth a shot. She still gets to spend time with him, and that makes her feel warm and giddy.]
[It isn't until the teachers switch that Orihime surreptitiously passes the folded note to Akira. She gives a quiet, determined nod, then folds her hands on her desk as she pretends to pay attention to the teacher -- her focus is definitely on Akira's reaction.]
'Dear Phantom Thieves,
Thank you for your hard work and courage. I'm a student at Shujin Academy, and the atmosphere has improved so much since Kamoshida-sensei confessed and stepped down. I have friends involved in athletics, and they're smiling so much more than they used to. We're very grateful.
I'm writing to recommend a potential member for your team. Kurusu Akira is my classmate, a recent transfer, and he would be an amazing Phantom Thief! He's very smart, and always knows the answer when teachers ask him tough questions. He is also in excellent health and has never missed a day of school! He lives his life boldly, unafraid of what people say about him. But he's also very kind and treats others with warmth and respect.
Most importantly, his sense of humor is a perfect match for a Phantom Thief. He's sharp and dry, and the type who would always have a witty retort for any sticky situation.
I trust him. I hope you will too.
Signed,
A Very Grateful Fan'

[ He's asking for the sake of it—Akira has a hunch that once she makes her mind, there's no stopping her. Is he wrong, though? Definitely not, and there's no better proof than the letter in his hands a few minutes later. He reads it thoroughly and simply hopes that the blush on his face isn't as bad as he thinks it is.
Did she write that just to make him look better or is this what she really thinks about him? His own heart thumping in his chest wants to believe in the latter. ]
Would you mind if I wrote one for you?
[ Without waiting for her answer, he's already tearing one page off his notebook. If she responds with a yes, Orihime will get a neatly folded paper sheet a little while later which reads:
Sorry, this isn't really a letter of recommendation. I'm not supposed to tell anyone, but I know someone who knows the Phantom Thieves. Their job is dangerous, I'm afraid. I can let them know how much you support them, though. I'm sure knowing that such a kind, cute girl is cheering them on would make them happy.
When she passes it to Orihime, Akira can't help the feeling that it looks just like a desperate attempt to hit on a girl. ]
no subject
[Orihime keeps an eye on the teacher, and though she tries to pay attention to the lecture, she really can't help herself. She's burning with curiosity to see what he's writing.]
[Her hand lowers to sneak the piece of paper onto her lap where she carefully and quietly unfolds it, eager to read.]
[While it isn't what she was hoping for, it still makes her heart skip a beat.]
Really?!
[She whispers back, wide-eyed, before reading the rest. Ah... Well, she supposes they wouldn't want someone who has no formal training slowing them down or holding them back. So while she's a little disappointed, at least this way she knows she can do something more direct to help them when necessary.]
[In the meantime, though...]
[She folds the note back up and writes on the back.]
I'll start training! (9'_')9
[Maybe she's not ready now, but later? Who knows!]
no subject
Shortly after she writes him back, Akira slips her another message on the same sheet of paper.
Wanna train together?
Now it feels like he's really pushing his luck. On the other hand, it might be a good occasion to get to know each other better. ]
no subject
[What she writes instead: Nothing. She just turns her head to look at him directly, smiling as she nods once. That smile doesn't fade for the rest of the school day, either.]
[Thou hast somehow made another Sun arcana pact.]
[When the lunch break rolls around, Orihime hands Akira back his note, since it has incriminating evidence that he's loosely tied to the Phantom Thieves. She digs into her school bag to find her lunch -- ah ha! A whole loaf of bread and a tin of sweet bean pasted, her favorite!]
When do you want to start? I know an old warehouse that I always thought would be fun for secret training!
[He might want to suggest a less dangerous location, but the atmosphere in that place really can't be beat.]
