Rules

Scenarios

1. Try to tell you 'no', but my body keeps on telling you 'yes'.   You absolutely, positively do NOT want to sleep with this person again.  So why the heck do you keep waking up with their underwear on your bedpost?

2. What happens when a tornado meets a volcano.  Maybe you're just too different to see eye to eye.  Or maybe you're just too alike and no one's going to compromise.  Either way, your battle of wills looks more like World War 3 than a lover's spat. 

3. All your love is revenge.   You don't know why you're together.  You don't know how to be apart.  But is whatever that's making you stay with this person worth all the misery?

4. I would die for you baby (but you won't do the same).  Ever love someone so much you'd take a bullet for them?  What if you want to find out if they would do the same for you?  It's not that crazy to demand the same kind of devotion from your lover, right?  After all, it's only fair.  You aren't obsessed, you're just in love.

5.  Somewhere along in the bitterness.  Where did things go wrong?  You started out so in love, so attached, and now it seems like things are falling apart.  Can the relationship be fixed or is this where you both stare awkwardly at each other and decide who gets the CDs and who gets the goldfish?

6. You let me complicate you.  You're not good for them.  You're corrupting them, you're ruining their life, you're causing them pain, even if you never meant to.  Why are they still hanging around?

7. I don't care if you really care as long as you don't go.  So there's no love in the relationship.  But there's so many other reasons to stay together, right?  Sometimes having a lover is more important than being a lover.

8. I will go down with this ship.  It's been over a long time and your lover has moved on.  But you're never going to give up the hope that they might come back to you.  Love is supposed to be forever.

[ AU in which Steve falls from the Hydra train instead of Bucky, and becomes Winter Soldier in his stead. History is pretty much an even mix of MCU and 616 continuity. Unless you're Natasha, don't expect there to be a whole lot of feeling on his part, unless that's something you want to try and work for (and you're a glutton for angst). I'm open to plot ideas. ]

[ When, he wondered, did he become that guy? You know, that guy who just doesn't want to be alone, but random hook-ups just aren't cutting it any more. Some time between the constant deluge of Hammond family drama and now, TJ became that guy. It wasn't like he wanted some stupid dream of domestic bliss, but just having someone who showed up on occasion and stuck around for a bit before vanishing again, that would do.

TJ sat by the window, the pane cracked so he could smoke without going outside, and listened to the rustle of Steve moving around the apartment. Sometimes it was the only indication anyone else was there. Well, that's fine. If they weren't talking, they weren't going to be arguing about anything. It wasn't like Steve stayed around long. Sometimes a few days, then gone again. That was better than nothing. After a few minutes of silence, TJ exhaled heavily, watching the cloud of smoke coil and curl until if dissipated. ]

When are you coming back? [ A pause. ] You are coming back, right?

Utena has to stop this. She knows that. This isn't what she wanted in the first place, but somehow she found herself attracted to him and she found it even harder to say "no" to Marluxia when he asked. Deep down, she knows this isn't who she's supposed to be or be doing. It's enjoyable, perhaps, in a physical kind of way, but she's always left feeling like she's done something wrong in the aftermath. A vaguely hollow, sickened feeling that reminds her that she's looking for something and this isn't it. She keeps trying to figure out how to tell him that it needs to stop, but every time she tries, they just seem to end up tangled in the sheets of the bed (usually his) again.

It's the morning after another of those encounters and she's spent the last few minutes staring at the ceiling of his room, trying to figure out where she took such a horrifically wrong turn in her life. She finally sits up and starts fishing for her bra as she feels him stir. The words finally force themselves out - it's a bit easier now, for some reason. She takes a breath and turns to glance over her shoulder at him.

"We have to stop doing this."

Utena doesn't know when things started going so wrong, when things started feeling strained and awkward, when it became harder to exchange more then a few empty words and mindless small-talk. She knows that she doesn't want it to end like this. She knows that she doesn't want to let her go - she has to be there to protect her, to make sure Usagi has a shoulder to cry on. For her own good, of course. Utena is just trying to do what's right, after all - she's not being selfish. In fact, she's being selfless by trying to keep whatever it is they have going. After all, she doesn't want to hurt Usagi.

And maybe, deep down, she doesn't like the idea of not having someone to protect. A selfish, gnawing little urge that she denies - she isn't selfish. It's what's best.

That's all.

So she smiles over her cup of tea at Usagi - it's easy enough to be friendly, even if there's no real love. She's always been friendly and helpful and kind.
