A respected adolescent tradition.

Though the concept of "adolescence" is a relatively new one, the nebulous age between the onset of puberty and the age of majority has almost always been a time for changes. A young person's body as well as their mind is changing, but most importantly, they are on their way to becoming a sexually mature adult. Often times, these adolescents may feel the desire to express themselves in this intimate way and experiment with others their own age. This may happen in a safe environment, but not always. Depending on the time and place, these sort of activities may be viewed as harmless or the ultimate taboos, especially if the desired person or act is otherwise "deviant." Still, that doesn't change the fact that the urge, more likely than not, is very, very present.

If we’re going to set it to Han’s teenage years, that takes place in a sewer, so. If you want to put it in a less gritty setting than that, maybe we should go modern.

I can start if you want, but since it’s taking place at Liz’s, it may make more sense for you to?

Elizabeth hummed as she set out the books they would need for their study session. Her father wasn't home, as usual. He was at the church, tending to his flock. The big house felt so empty when he was gone, but it was an emptiness she had come to cherish. Plus, when Han got there, the house wouldn't be empty! It was a great plan, really.
The house was, in her view, a pretty standard one. There were plenty of bookshelves in dark wood and religious paintings on the walls. Her bedroom was on the second floor, and was the only place in the whole house without a looming picture of some scene from the Holy Book on the wall.
She had taken some time to tidy up, though she didn't think Han would really notice if things were out of place. Cleanliness was next to Godliness, right? It was his first time visiting, she wanted to make a good impression so he'd want to study with her some more. He was pretty handsome, and she had been harboring a secret crush since they were in middle school.
When the doorbell rang she rushed to the door, eager to see Han.

Lizzie’s house that put Han on edge from the moment he first stepped into it. No secret, what it was, it was the presence all the religious stuff in the house. To put it mildly, this young man wasn’t a believer in religion, which was an opinion he’d formed more or less on his own. Neither of his parents were religious, but they never tried to guide him from it either. And anyway when he saw all those statues and pictures of The Lord in their home, he felt like he was being judged.
Otherwise, her house was clean and much nicer than his. It was a very badly kept secret that Han was poor. His clothes didn’t change much until he was too big for them. His hair was scruffy because it didn’t get cut as often. It was worth it to put up with all the Jesus just to get himself a snack, since, the kitchen in his home was often empty.
Matter of fact, his stomach was growling when he waited for Elizabeth to open the door.
“Hey.” He murmurs with a smile, when she appears.
Yes, where she lived was objectively a much nicer place to be than his. And he needed to buckle down in ... well, basically all of his classes. So, the studying was a very good idea, but that wasn’t why he came. He liked the girl that lived here.

Elizabeth smiled brightly at Han and motioned for him to come in. "Hey! I'm so glad you came. Please come in." She self-consciously brushed her skirt, making sure her clothes were straight and presentable. Being the daughter of a preacher made her very aware of appearances.
She had made snacks, and they were waiting in the dining room. "How have you been?" She was genuinely interested. Honestly she could listen to his voice for a long time without being getting bored. Plus she did have legitimate concern for him. "I made sandwiches, and there's juice in the fridge."

He shifted under the weight of his backpack, it actually had books in it for a change, and he follows Liz into the house. Having been over before, he knows which general directions he can look without being bombarded by religious imagery.
“You did?”
She always had something set out for him, but Han always seemed surprised that she did anyway. It was as if he was expecting to wear down her generosity sooner or later, but Elizabeth was holding strong.
“Oh, you know. Things are about the same.” He was careful to spare the worst details of his home life from everybody. “I think my parents are glad I’m gonna get some homework done today.”

"Well, you know you can come over any time you want to work on homework together, right? I mean, my dad's mostly not home, and it does get a little lonely." She sat down, giving Han a bright, earnest smile.

“He’s gone that much?”
Han can’t decide on whether to sit first or reach for the snack (he’s too hungry to ignore the fact that she’s laid a sandwich right there for him) so he does both. Sitting down and then, reaching for the food almost instantly after.
“I guess I didn’t realize that.” He says, in the middle of chewing his food.

While he ate she opened her biology book and turned to the section they were supposed to be studying. She was a little embarrassed, because this week's chapter was about human reproduction. It seemed both improbable and gross, but some of the books she bought behind her father's back seemed to say otherwise.
She glanced at Han, thinking about him in the context of the heroes of those books. It wasn't the first time she'd wondered if kissing was as exciting as book writers seemed to think, but the thought of being so close to him, of touching his face and lips. . . she felt herself blush and she looked at her hands again. "Uh, um, hey, I was kind of wondering something. When you're done eating! I mean, I don't want to interrupt your sandwich." She was normally pretty articulate, it was frustrating to stumble over her words, but around Han she found herself doing it more often.

To pass the time, Han had different hobbies. Since he wasn’t much of a reader, he’d disappear into videogames played on hand me down consoles that he’d picked up in thrift stores — preferring the shooters and especially the flight simulator games.
“What’s that?”
He asks, inviting her to go on. Han happens to be so far behind in Bio that he doesn’t even realize that the subject they’re supposed to be working on is human reproduction. He just notices that the normally smooth Lizzie seems to be all flustered at the moment and he can’t put his finger on why. He didn’t do anything weird when he sat down, did he? Maybe in his moment of sandwich zealousness, he’d ended up a little closer than normal, but he could just ... move. If it was bothering her.

She didn't mind how close he was, even though they were a little inside each other's personal space bubbles. It was a little thrilling to be so close to him, to be able to touch him, if she was brave enough. If he wanted her to. She really wanted him to want her to touch him.
