( he'd rescued her, in a sense. vanessa had been ready to shoot, to kill doctor sweet to prevent dracula's goals but she hadn't had the will. loving the man before discovering the monster, feeling the connection between them had made it difficult.

he'd had her.

his arrival had caused dracula to flee. vanessa had been cautious, still caught in the emotions of the encounter and would have aimed her gun at him, rather than allow him to take it, had something about him not felt familiar. it caused her to at least listen and take him back to grandage place.

her story had been a reluctant one. it was that feeling of familiarity and his own story that had allowed her to tell it, an uneasy trust being placed in him. she'd excused herself after that, tired from the encounter, needing to regroup her thoughts in privacy.

but sleep didn't come. her thoughts were plagued by dracula, with vanessa almost afraid to close her eyes. he needed her to agree and with how close she had been--
