[ Look, when your planet blows the hell up and effectively strips everything you've ever known and loved from you, it changes who you are. Nora spent a long time learning how to live on what was left of her desecrated husk of a world, but doing that without her husband? Without her son? God, it was the hardest thing she's ever had to go through – and one of the loneliest. She made friends, found a place for herself (mostly), and carried on, but—

It took a lot of strength. A lot of adapting. Through it all...

She survived.

(Isolated because of where she came from, a relic of a time marked by excess and turmoil, with no one else who truly understood her experience.)

But... that didn't mean she wanted to stay on her world. What did she have left? It was as foreign to her as any other planet by that point, with only the occasional pang of familiarity to be found with the remnants of stolen centuries' worth of time. She didn't recognize what used to be her home, so... why stay?

So when the opportunity presented itself, when that Zetan gave her an out, a chance to see the stars in exchange for her silence, she couldn't come up with any reason compelling enough to turn it down.

And, okay, maybe getting dumped on a Federation outpost wasn't the most ideal way to introduce herself to the rest of the greater, wider universe, but it could be worse. Mostly, she's blown away by how small it makes her planet feel, when people move so effortlessly from place to place, where faster-than-light travel was common, rather than a far off piece of science fiction. She was awed by it all – much in the same way a few Starfleet officers were fascinated (and concerned) by how she found herself so far from her home planet. She still kind of gets a kick at the look on folks' faces when she goes right ahead and tells them she's pushing 200, but explaining the whole cryogenic stasis bit seems to take the edge off.

(It prompts more questions, of course, but Nora is more than happy to answer them all.)

She's bounced around for a while, before she ends up on a new planet, Earth, that feels a little like home (her real home, before the war). San Francisco is a nice enough place, and she's intrigued by what Starfleet has to offer, because, well, what else is Nora going to do? She's got to find some way to make a life for herself, and even if the laws are different, even if she's got a lot to learn all over again, the world could always use more lawyers, right?

... Right.

Now here she is, smack-dab in San Francisco as she navigates this new world. She has the pleasure of bumping into Jim in a bar one evening, and through laughter and smiles, it doesn't take much for her to be charmed right into his bed. Every itch needs scratching, after all, and she's had more than enough time to mourn Nate (never forgetting him, but moving on, like he'd want her to), so Jim was just what the doctor ordered.

Sleeping off the liquor and the sex, Nora finds herself awake before Jim. She turns to grin groggily at him from where she's curled around a pillow, but she eventually pries herself up to investigate the kitchen. The only thing she bothers tossing on is a shirt (definitely not hers) as she rifles through the fridge.

Whatever she can unearth, she's going to munch on. ]
