The Road

Maybe you’ve always been traveling this road. Maybe you just started. But, either way, now you have a companion. They say it’s not about the destination, it’s the journey. Now you’re going to have to find out.

1. Post-apocalyptic. There’s not much left of the world out there. But there’s still this road, and at the end of it, they say, there’s a haven.
2. Epic fantasy. It’s a long and winding road, through forests and plains, and all manner of treacherous fairies and giant spiders along the way. Supposedly, at the end of it there’s a castle, a dragon, and a treasure.
3. Yellow brick road! A journey through a world weird and wonderful, and at the end, if you’re lucky, is a way back home.
4. Road trip! Route 66, cheap motels, diners, small-town America and the open highway.
5. The Eternal Commute. Welcome to hell. Or New Jersey. Either way, really. The two of you are stuck in this car, in traffic, and you’re getting nowhere. Eventually, one day, you’re going to get to your destination.
6. Wilderness road. Maybe you’re lost, or stranded, or this is all you’ve ever known. All you know is there’s only one road in all this wilderness, and if you’re ever going to get back to civilisation, you’re going to have to follow it.
7. Shangri-La. You’ve heard a rumour about this road. It goes somewhere. Somewhere special. El Dorado. Atlantis. Camelot. But if you ever want to get there, you’re going to have to follow the road. Don’t stray.
8. WILDCARD

[ They walk.

It's been sixteen days since the end of the world; the first four days are complete and utter chaos. It was hard to tell who the bigger threat was, panicked civilians or the monsters they turn into once they're downed. On the second day planes began to drop out of the sky, smashing into major cities and abandoned farmhouses and everywhere in between. Major news stations continued to broadcast for three days after that, though by the end of the third they were little more than empty newsrooms and a rolling camera.

Day eight is when Bucky manages to find Steve, and not a minute too soon. Shield's repurposed and rebranded headquarters are overrun with them, and none of them are quite sure if the virus will interact with the serum coursing through them. If they're immune, or if they'll turn into a bigger, badder, stronger version of the things that have been wiping out humanity. Their only choice right now is to simply not get bitten. It means that despite their strength and stamina, they can't risk getting overrun. Their strength is in numbers rather than actual strength.

They clear headquarters of threats, but by the time they're done, they're the only two left. They stay holed up for a while, slowly depleting supplies. The power went out on day twelve, and the backup generators kicked on. They hold for a while, but they both know it's not a permanent solution. Communications have been down for longer than they can number, but there's rumors of a safe place outside of the city. Rumors that some of their team have survived, and may be thriving in the countrysides of southwest Virginia.

The roads are littered with cars and obstacles, and movement or rumbling engines attract too much attention. At least on the outskirts of the city. Maybe once they hit open highway they'll boost a car, but stealth and solitude are their allies.

And so they walk, a pack of rations and equipment on their backs, silent and alert, cautious and alone but together. ]

[ Whilst Flint is most famous for his crime sprees in New York he's a wanted man from Maine to Mexico, which means sometimes there's long trip between crimes. But that's what stolen cars are for, right? Taking an out of the way country route to keep out of the way of the cops made for a safe but boring journey.

He'd not expected to see a hitchhiker out this far (and technically Mystique wasn't exactly sticking out her thumb for attention) but he was an odd guy- he'll rob a hundred banks but help an old lady cross the street. It's just his bag that when he spots someone on the side of the road way out from civilisation he doesn't stop to think that like him they might be avoiding someone. He just imagines they need assistance. Besides, as desirable as they are, bags of stolen cash aren't great company. ]

[Casey steps them off the dance floor, sweating and smiling, and finally pulls out his suffering updo. His long blue hair clings to his shoulders and back, and so he sweeps it neatly over one shoulder and orders a drink.]

Sunset in paradise, please~ [He says, a bit breathless, and takes a seat on a barstool. He crosses his legs at the ankles, toeing off his red heels. He's also clad in black shorts that barely cover his ass, and an off-shoulder top that manages to cover the tattooed bands around his left arm. The black choker covers the tattoo around his neck, but the blue stripe on his chin remains bare.

He receives his drink before scanning the bar, and...noticing an attractive young man, all broad shoulders and pretty shadows in his sunken eyes. He bites his lip, considering...well, what is there to consider, really? He grabs his drink and his heels and walks up to the other man, an open smile on his face.]
