Tywin Lannister | GoT AU | 11
Tywin would not be summoned to the school by the administrators or the teachers. The only time Tywin Lannister would be seen at his children's school was to pick them up after one of those incidents which caused near hysterical teachers or comparably annoying individuals to call him and have a nervous breakdown whilst on the phone with him. The result of these calls was always the same: Tywins twins could do no wrong and kindly have the wrongly accused sent outside in half an hour as the child has been subjected to enough abuse by strangers for the day.
When his precious son finally came shuffling through the school gates, tie askew, dried blood on his nose and lip, a bruise blooming on his cheek, Tywin's brows furrowed lightly.
"Get in the car," he ordered, voice low, as he handed Jaime his pocket square.

The teenager didn't have any witty quips to say for once. He let his bag drop between his legs after he climbed inside the car and pressed the bundle of silk to his nose. What started out as minor fits of 'acting up' since his mother passed away had gotten significantly worse as he started to embark upon his rebellious years, but no one wanted to talk about the elephant in the Rolls-Royce.
You'd think he'd be used to the awkward silence by now, but rest assured, he'd start to squirm before they even hit the next set of lights.

They were all fortunate that Tywin wasn't your typical single-father juggling work and
twothe children at the same time. It wouldn't take a psychic to predict that the Lannisters would end up with all their eggs broken and the house on fire. The silence never bothered Tywin. There wasn't much Joanna's darling men had to say to each other anymore anyway. When Jaime began fidgeting, his father almost reached over but thought better of it. There used to be a time when Tywin carried his little boy around on his shoulders, wandering around in their garden, answering every question his son had with more patience than people would believe he had. Joanna had taken that to the grave with her as well.
'Are you alright, son? Are you hurt anywhere else? We'll get you home and cleaned up. Cook will bring you some tea and biscuits, the kind you love so much.'
"Is this your subtle way of telling me you've decided to pursue a career in boxing?"

Jaime on the other hand simply wasn't cut out for school. He was just barely getting by and if it weren't for carrying the basketball team to numerous victories he'd have been expelled a long time ago. He wanted to drop out and ride the BMW motorbike his granddad bought for him for his 16th birthday around the world. Go to Africa and help out his mother's charities. Skydive out of a plane and conquer mountains with a harness and some bits of rope. Maybe join the air force or the navy, shoot some things. Anything but sitting through remedial English staring at words as they turned into trigonometry in his head.
The only reason he was staying in this stuffy private school was because of all the promises Cersei poured into his ear when she grabbed his tie, pulled him into a vacant room and wrapped her legs around his waist. Not even the wrath of Tywin Lannister could keep him in a classroom.
"I was paying back a debt," he finally talked back.

'Are you out of your mind? Do you want him to end up as a smear on asphalt?'
'Please calm down, Tywin, I didn't think-'
'No, that is the problem with you, isn't it? You never think.'
'Son-'
'Don't call me that.'
If he could get away with it, Tywin would keep his children at home and have them tutored there, but he wouldn't rob them of the opportunity to become acquainted with their 'peers'. Cersei was doing moderately well, better than her brothers it seemed. He never thought that the boys would give him this much trouble. He and his wife had always worried about the daughter and her future.
But here he was, picking up his feisty stubborn little cub from school for the third time in just as many months.
"What debt would that be?"
no subject
"Cersei's not a whore," Jaime said flatly. That anyone would insinuate as much normally wouldn't bother him - teenagers said all sorts of mean things to each other. But if anyone thought they could go to his school and make an example out of his siblings, because they're jealous of one and find the other too easy to pick on - they had another fucking thing coming. The golden boy would be cocky (crazy) enough to bring a fist to a knife fight and he'd still send the idiots away crying to the nearest adult.
"What's it matter to you anyway?" he snapped, tossing the pocket square aside. "Not enough cameras or zeros in this investment for you to care."

There had been one teacher, bright-eyed and drunk on the milk of idealism, who'd tried to lecture Tywin about his parenting methods. She didn't even last a month at the school.
"I should hope not," was the even response without any genuine concern behind those words. Although Cersei wasn't half as cunning as she believed herself to be, Tywin knew her to be smart enough to not act out too much, especially not in that manner. Which was more than could be said about Jaime, forever the knight in shining armour, ready to defend his sister and the misbegotten little brother, with too much bravado and too little thought.
"You always matter." A look of mild disdain crossed the father's face when his pocket square was cast aside so violently. "I'll thank you not to speak of things you don't understand. You might think this cynicism marks you as an adult but all it does is make you sound like a petulant child, and if you insist on acting like a child, you'd better expect being treated as one."
no subject
He hated this. Didn't want to be here. And one day not too far from now, maybe even before graduation, he'd try and convince Cersei to get on his bike with him and just keep riding where the road ahead took them without looking back.
"Whatever," he muttered. Not embarrassing Tywin Lannister mattered. Tywin couldn't expect Jaime to believe anything more than that - not when his best memories are all either with his mother or grandfather while Tywin's impatience dealing with his dyslexia was the stuff of nightmares.
no subject
Dealing with his son was becoming increasingly frustrating. That it went both was didn't even matter. How was it possible that they couldn't carry a conversation like normal people for even two minutes?
"You need to pull yourself together, Jaime." Graduation was so close, it wouldn't do for the boy to get suspended or thrown out for his plebeian behaviour.
"They may be patient with you but even the headmaster's patience has its limits. If you can't control yourself and manage to get your diploma at this school, you can get it at a school abroad." It wouldn't be easy letting the golden boy out of his sight but having his son drop out of school wasn't an option.

"School doesn't matter. It's not like I can do anything with that piece of paper. There's only one place I'm gonna end up and it's not where I wanna be." That's about as much as Jaime wants to talk about the subject, and it's probably more words than what Tywin usually gets out of his son on average. The other two wouldn't stop talking if you gave them an audience, but Jaime's the silent one with the semi-permanent scowl. As soon as he got home he'd lock himself in his room, get on his Playstation and they'd go back to their truce.
"Don't you have somewhere else to be?" Work? Someone important's ass to kiss? Anywhere except pretending to be interested in the mundane day to day lives of his children?

A blind man would see that father and son could never see eye to eye. Blind men knew nothing of the stubbornness of Lannister men, though. A Lannister woman would tell the blind man that these two lions could and would go on like this forever. Since Tywin had been wearing a semi-scowl on his fave ever since he turned 14, it was never easy to tell just how irritated he really was.
"You may not think that you need 'that piece of paper' but your siblings certainly think otherwise." The driver flinched lightly at the seemingly calm and even tone his employer was using to speak to his son.
"Let me put it this way, Jaime. Either you finish school and graduate, or neither one of you three will."
no subject
"What the hell's your problem anyway? You come here on your powertrip thinking you can bully everybody - you can keep your car, and your driver, and your threats, and all your money, go fuck everyone else over with it." The driver had the instinct to pull over quickly when he saw Jaime reaching for the door lock - perhaps more self-preservation at that stage than any genuine concern for the foul-mouthed boy - just in time for Jaime to climb out without his bag and start walking.
