hurt comfort meme

Hurt/Comfort - Hurt/comfort is a fan fiction genre that involves the physical pain or emotional distress of one character, who is cared for by another character. The injury, sickness or other kind of hurt allows an exploration of the characters and their relationship.

But he's done playing games, so as far as he's concerned, any meeting they have is going to be firmly on the up and up. Anything else is not his doing. That's not to say he'll be washing his hands of anything bad that could potentially happen; it's just that he has no ulterior motives here, unless exhaustion and wanting things to be the way they were counts.
"Prague? Interesting choice."
no subject
He chuckles lightly when Tony says Prague is interesting. "It's neutral territory to both of us. At least from my perspective. I'll text you the address."
no subject
Then he just chuckles dryly. "The one time I'm at a loss for words. That hardly ever happens, I'll have you know." He's certain Steve knows that without being told, but he's back to not knowing what to say, which means falling back on his typical defense mechanism of wisecracks.

Steve wants to, no needs to see Tony. They had left him hurt but with a way out. Things hadn't gone well and Steve wants to make sure that his friend is alright...even though he's pretty sure he's not. None of them are.
no subject
For whatever reason, talking to Steve has actually gotten him excited, at the same time as it's made him feel vaguely sick.
But regardless, fast forward to four days later when Tony finally lands in Prague. He makes his way to the designated hotel, and as he walks inside and crosses the lobby, he looks around for any sign of Steve.
no subject
Steve's in the corner near the door. When you walk in you can't see him until you're about halfway through the lobby but he can see you the moment you enter. He notes Tony is absolutely alone and then approaches him. Other than a baseball hat he's not really disguised. He's wearing a navy hoodie over a grey shirt and a pair of jeans. "Tony." He gives him a hesitant smile once they're close enough for Stark to notice and face him. "I'm glad you came."
no subject
He doubts it'll be that simple, however. When Steve makes his approach and greets him, Tony pauses before answering so he can give the other man a good once-over. "Yeah, I'm glad you did too. You look good." He also looks a little more stressed than Tony remembers him being, but aren't they all a little stressed these days?
"So, you got a room here yet, or somewhere we can talk?" If not, Tony will gladly shell out for a room.
no subject
He leads Tony to the elevators and together they ride a car up to the fourth floor. Steve leads them to his room where he uses a key card to unlock the door revealing a modest but well maintained suite. "Come on in. Want something to drink? I've got water..a few sodas."
no subject
Once they're inside, Tony takes a look around. "Nice place. And yeah, uh, soda sounds great. If that's okay."
He's realizing he doesn't know how to act around him anymore. Everything feels like he's overstepping, and although he never cared about that before, he feels like he has to watch himself around Steve.
no subject
Steve gets his own then takes one of the two chairs in the sitting area. "It is awkward...I know. And I'm sorry it is."
no subject
"I mean, it's not like the last time we saw each other, we were fighting. Not just regular fighting, but no-holds-barred fighting." Tony lets out a long sigh, going back in his mind to that moment. "I'm bad at apologies, I know, but- Sorry."

"Barnes is your friend. I get it." Sort of. "And me, I'm just- A royal pain in the ass. Always have been and probably always will." Still, he can't pretend he hasn't missed how things used to be. "I guess my first question is, is everyone all right?"
no subject
And Tony..Tony you're my friend...please you have to believe me...it...when you said you were my friend...past tense that was one of the worst gut punches I've ever taken. I deserved it, I wasn't a friend to you..but it still hurt. I...I had to stand on Buck's side because no one else was and he needed me. He needed someone to fight on his side....I." Steve looks close to tears and he puts his head in his hands, tugging hard on his hair as he tries to figure out what to do...what to say.
"Please Tony I never wanted you to find out like that...to think that someone who honestly loved your father as a friend could do that to him in cold blood of his own free will. I should have told you when I found out after the Triskelion fell. I should have done a lot of things...I should have told you that you were important too..."
no subject
He thinks that of all people, Steve will understand that. He just hopes he can forgive him for his screwups.
"Yeah, that- That was uncalled for." Except it felt justified in the moment. "There's no excuse." Tony looks down at the table for a moment or two; it feels like he's intruding on something he has no business seeing. Steve is a leader, one of the strongest men he's ever met, so seeing him like this feels like it's not something he ought to witness.
"Look, Steve, I'm a big boy. I don't need my hand held. I don't need to be told that I'm important." Except sometimes he does, but he can't admit that to Steve. "It was a real shock finding it out that way, but so? Sometimes life is shocking." He's just going to go the downplay route all the way. It shook him at the time, but now he can just pretend it's water under the bridge. "Besides, was it really of his own volition? I don't think so." He can't be sure, but he's gotten winds of whispers about brainwashing and mind control, two things he really hates thinking about, but it does put certain things into a kind of perspective.
no subject
"No, it wasn't of his own volition. Years...it took them years of torture and abuse to get him somewhat undercontrol and conditioned...all they had to do was say the trigger words and he'd do whatever the hell they asked him to do. It's what happened after the UN got him..Zemo said the words, took away his free will and...god Tony I just...how can a person do that to someone else?! I just don't get it. I've never understood why humanity is so cruel."
no subject
The bottom line is that Tony respects Steve's opinion, and although he finds it difficult to admit, he respects his authority as well.
"People are terrible, and they do terrible things." And he enabled that by manufacturing and selling weapons. Which is why he feels like he has a lot of penance to perform. "They aren't all squeaky clean like you are, but you know, maybe they should try." Except some people are lost causes; Tony knows that full well.

He leans back into his chair, crossing his arms in front of him. "I'm trying to learn, and I want to do better, but you know. Work in progress and all that."
no subject
Steve is sitting back comfortably in his spot, arms resting on the arm rests at his sides. He tilts his head slightly observing Tony, thinking. "Do you think...if the two of us put our heads together, that we could come up with something that would benefit all parties concerned. In other words, something the Accords should have been in the first place?"
no subject
"The only problem I see is getting the UN to ratify them." They might not be so willing a second time.
no subject
Steve suggests without outright saying that T'Challa and Agent Ross might help them.
no subject
"I'm sure they'd want to help, but how are they going to sway the opinions of the UN and the Secretary of State?" In Tony's mind, all of this seems like an uphill battle that they'd most likely lose.
no subject
"You sure we can't find a way to disappear Secretary Ross without anyone realizing it's us?" It's mostly a joke. Mostly.
