hurt comfort meme

Hurt/Comfort - Hurt/comfort is a fan fiction genre that involves the physical pain or emotional distress of one character, who is cared for by another character. The injury, sickness or other kind of hurt allows an exploration of the characters and their relationship.
- Post with Character Name | Series in the subject.
- Others respond. Gen, shipping, smut, everything goes.
- Roll 1-10 at RNG for a scene, play it out and have fun!

But she remembers, and she can use that experience to her advantage now. Cullen is struggling with an attack of lyrium withdrawal, and Adaar isn't entirely sure he's aware of his surroundings at this point, but she still speaks gentle nonsense as she blows out most of the candles in his office. The less light, the less painful for the eyes.]
This will pass like all the others. Kadankost. Please drink.
[It's almost word for word what her father would say to her mother. She has to bend over to reach his desk, back always aching from all the stooping she has to do, but she pours him a mug of water and holds it out to him. There's little to do now besides make sure he's hydrated and cared for. Perhaps it would be better to allow someone else to do this, but Hissera doesn't think that Cullen would want any of his subordinates to see him like this, and she doesn't want to leave him in anyone else's hands.]

Maker, it's so cold.
He doesn't notice the candles being blown out, but his head throbs a little less. He pulls his cloak tighter around his shoulders, barely aware of another voice in the room. The Inquisitor is tall and impossible to miss, but he's barely aware that he's in his office right now. He tenses when a cup is held out in front of him.
It takes a coordinated effort from both of his hands to grip the cup and bring it to his lips. The water tastes so good that his eagerness to drain the cup means that water accidentally spills down his chin. Drinking water fills up the hunger for a second, and lucidity returns back to his eyes as he finally looks up at the Inquisitor.]
Inquisitor-
[His voice is weaker than normal, a far cry from the strong Commander]
Thank you.

[To her, at least, it's nothing, especially when compared to everything Cullen has done. It's not fair that he has to suffer like this. It's not fair that this is the price he has to pay for trying to do something good and right.
Hissera had always wondered about human Templars, comparing them to Qunari Arvaarads and wondering why the Qun wouldn't take advantage of lyrium the way that the Chantry does. Now she understands.
For the sake of her back and his neck, she sits down on the ground. This way, she is roughly his height, and it's easier to see the pallor of his face and the way his shoulders shake. She takes the mug back without prompting, ignoring how it has spilled as she refills it again for him.] I know a spell that could warm you. Would you be okay with me using magic?
[It helped her mother sometimes, but other times it just made things worse. She's learned that it's best to ask first.]

[He lets her take the mug back from him, another shiver running down his spine. He closes his eyes and tries to steady his breathing, slowly coming out of the lowest fall of the attack. He's not in any condition to be by himself, still, but... well, he'll manage.
He hesitates, shivering, when she mentions magic, but then he shakes his head.]
I... No, thank you.
[As much as the refusal is polite, a tendril of unease snakes into his voice. He may brook no quarrel with mages, but the idea of magic being used on him riles up the fears he's tried so hard to tamp down.]

[Is there paperwork to tend to, reports to read, adventures to prepare for? Probably, but right now Cullen is more important and she wouldn't be able to do her work while fretting over him. She needs to make sure he's okay.
She nods in response to his refusal.] Okay. Let me know if you change your mind. [She has no intention of using magic on him if he doesn't want her to. She respects how terrifying magic can be, especially for those who've seen how bad it can get.
So instead she unclasps her own cloak from her neck, pulling it off and offering it to him.] Use this. [It's a ridiculous amount of fabric, closer to a blanket for a human than clothing, but it's warm and heavy and an extra layer he can put on while he tries to get warm.]

It smells like her.
That thought is one that gets pushed right back where it came from.]
...Maker, I must look a sight. I'm sorry that you have to see me like this.
no subject
She tries to offer him a reassuring smile as he bundles up in her cloak.] Please don't think of me as your Inquisitor right now. Just think of me as your friend who wants to help.
no subject
His movements are still shaky and clumsy, and the cloak doesn't end up as perfectly arranged as it could be. His skin feels too tight, but the weight of her cloak helps him feel less twitchy, less high-strung.
He manages not to flinch at her request, aware that that's not how she meant it. But he's also acutely aware that he's hardly fit to be thought of as Commander, right now, either.]

[Hissera knows that at times like this, company is usually the main thing someone needs, but she thinks Cullen is self-conscious enough as it is without her just wordlessly staring at him.]
My mother had trouble like this sometimes. None of this is anything I haven't seen before. [Mostly. Her mother hadn't struggled with lyrium addiction, but the trauma of the things inflicted on her by the Qun combined with the regular nightmares she suffered in the Fade left her... fragile. She had episodes similar to Cullen, but she didn't battle the effects of lyrium, but of her own splintering mind.
Hissera has never spoken of her parents to anyone in the Inquisition. There's been no cause to, and it's not a topic she makes a habit of bringing up. She's sure that Leliana already knows everything worth knowing anyway.]
no subject
I'm sorry to hear that, about your mother. [He doesn't wish this on anyone.] You don't... speak about your parents often. If it's a sore subject, you don't have to, of course, but I realize that I know precious little about you, aside from all you've done as Inquisitor.

[But here's an easy way to distract Cullen. It used to hurt to talk about her parents, but not as much anymore.]
My parents were born in the Qun. My mother was a Saarebas, and my father was her Arvaarad. Basically, that means that she was a mage and he was her own personal Templar. Arvaarads are responsible for controlling their Saarebas and keeping them from corruption, but my mother always mumbled in her sleep. My father didn't think she was making deals with demons, but they sewed her mouth shut anyway to discourage corruption. He ran away with her after that. He said that he could better serve his function in the Qun without anyone else making decisions for her but him, but he was in love. I think he just hated that she was being hurt and he couldn't protect her.
[She talks about it calmly. She understands that her parents' love story has a lot more gruesome details than most human love stories, but it's all she's ever known. It's normal to her.]
I came along after that. They loved each other and they loved me. We had to run from Ben-Hassrath and my mother was... troubled because of everything that happened to her, but I think we were as happy as we could have been until she died.
