Somebody's just gotten some big news. Life-changing news. News too big to keep to themselves, one way or another. Time to break it to the other parent-to-be, or a supportive friend. Or an unsupportive enemy. I don't know your life.

The last few months had been... strange. Since becoming intimate with his beloved Prince, Ignis became aware of changes in Noctis. This was hardly a surprise, given his perceptive nature and role as care taker to the Lucian son, but these changes were unexpected to say the least.

Fatigue and sleep (more than usual, anyway.) Increase in appetite. Movements of nausea, especially in the morning. Slight weight gain around the middle.

That is why, in the interests of clearing his mind of the most foolish notion, Ignis returned from shopping with something exclusively for Noctis. He invited the young man into the bathroom, his arms behind his back.

"Noctis, I have a somewhat bizarre request, but I pray you indulge me." The adviser reveals what he was hiding behind his back, a slim white stick. He tried to hide the embarrassment as he continued. "I would like you to take this stick... and urinate on it."

He looked up at Ignis, an eyebrow raising at the request and the strange item.

“Specs. This is a pregnancy test. Pregnancy. What, you think you knocked me up?”

He snorted, but took the stick anyway. There was no harm in doing it and appeasing his lover, was there? If it was anybody else, he would assume it was a prank right off.

The younger man shrugged. Alright then. Time to do this.

Pee on the stick and wait a minute for a result. Easy.

“Um. Iggy. What does one strip mean?”

Ignis waited outside, trying to exert patience, while his mind went into overtime, foreseeing outcomes to this situation. Surely Noctis was not expecting... right? It was impossible.

His Highness' voice drew his attention and he tried to remember what was written on the box. "One strip usually means the test is negative, therefore no pregnancy. Two indicates... a positive reading."

Growing anxious, Ignis leaned into the bathroom. "Are you alright, Noct?"

“Two indicates positive...”

He muttered to himself, raising the test to await the result.

Oh.

Shit.

“M fine,” he shouted back, eyes unable to move from the double blue strips now showing.

Okay. Now Ignis was worried.

He walked in, aware that Noctis seemed... out of sorts.

"Noct? Are you finished with the test?"

Everything will be fine. Everything will be fine.

He continued to stare at the test, mind reeling.

Positive.

How could it be positive?

Concerned by the lack of response from Noctis, Ignis leaned down to get the pregnancy test.

It had to be negative. It was simply a silly notion he had.

Noctis could not be pregnant.

He adjusted his glasses as he gazed down at the white stick.

And saw two strips. Two.

The longest silence followed, Ignis and Noctis blown away by what the test was telling them. His logical mind tried to tell him that this was impossible, even in a world of elemancy and magic like Eos.

But those two red strips said otherwise.

"...My word..."

“Y-yeah. That’s one way to put it...”

Noct finally tore his gaze away, eyes flicking out meet Iggy’s.

“M-maybe the test is broken. You know, errors happen and all. You got another one? Just to be sure.”

It made sense, but Noct wanted to deny it. He couldn’t afford to be pregnant, not now.

Still overcome with shock, Ignis barely took in what Noctis said. He did indeed purchase a spare from another store just in case (and to avoid strange questions by the same member of staff.) He offered it to Noctis, his cheeks flushed as he their confused eyes met.

"Y-Yes, as a matter of fact, I did. Perhaps the first test came from a faulty batch?"
