Grooming is an important part of many species' rituals. It keeps them clean, healthy, and content. And a good bath? It can change the whole tone of a day from terrible to relaxed and blissful. But nudity is sometimes viewed as a weakness - and it is almost always sexualized - so bathing is often kept a private matter. If you do share these moments with someone, they're almost always a significant other or a sexual partner. Like you're doing now. Whether it be after a battle or after sex (or before sex, even), the two of you are going to get clean. Be sure to help each other out with that, won't you? After all, there are places on the back that just can't be reached... There are perks to being so well-established in a city like Rialto, and access to a bath- a proper, heated bath with whatever soaps and oils you might fancy- is certainly high on the list.

A bath is especially nice after a night out murdering one's former comrades-in-arms, and Zevran is in quite the good mood. That's not the only reason for his cheeriness. No, that cheeriness is the responsibility of one Grey Warden, currently the object of his gaze as he sinks further into the corner of the large bath, one arm slung over the edge to either side of him. He is not shy in his admiration.

"You have come a long way, mi amor," he begins, canting his head to one side and regarding his lover. His tone is thoughtful, but belies a slight humor to it that suggests a tease. "Surely you did not come all this way just because you missed this."

It was her fault. Nobody said it, but they all knew it. Hawke saw it in their faces, she heard it in their voices, she felt it in the tense air. It was her fault for making agreements she couldn't afford, for frittering away the Deep Roads money. For blowing off Dougal instead of trying to work something out. Who cares if he wanted interest, it wasn't worth this.

Nothing was worth this.

She prepared for a lot. Varric's own spy network helped keep tabs on her mother and Gamlen, shitty though he was, and she wrote so many letters to Carver that she was sure the Wardens could use them as kindling. Orana and Bodahn had instructions for every eventuality, even the "our boss turned into an abomination" scenario.

She hadn't prepared for this. Templars, yes, always templars: Anders attracted them like flies to rot. Varric had his bribes and his money and his power spread everywhere, with Hawke's wealth and influences to fill any cracks. They thought they covered everything, until Tomwise found the clinic empty, trashed, and streaked with blood.

It took them weeks. Weeks, weeks, weeks- three weeks to find him, to figure out the people responsible (and Maker, how many people did they bribe to leave no witnesses?!), to hunt them to the disgusting hole they kept Anders in. They were smart, you see, and kept their precious hostage in a second location, drugged and spirit-bound, in a shithole worse than Anders's own home in Darktown. At least the clinic was kept fairly clean, at least the worst thing there was chokedamp. The bit they kept Anders in- oh, it was awful, she was pretty sure it had been used for blood magic sacrifices not too long ago, and the rotting death mingled with chokedamp and poison and shit to form a foulness not fit for any living thing.

When she saw him, her fury crumbled stones from the walls and tore the skin from their living bodies. Marian Hawke ripped them apart like an animal in a display of blood magic unlike anything she had ever done before, welling from a place inside her she hadn't known existed.

Then came the quiet. All sounds of death gurgled and faded into void, the rocks and lightning and fire dropped from the air, and even her companions seemed to hold their breaths. They hadn't even gotten a chance to join the fight- only stare at her with horror and (she was sure) blame.

She ran to him, pushing past the twisted, shredded bars of the cage, and dropped to her knees in the filth beside him. Hands scrabbled uselessly at the iron collar around his neck until Varric gently took her wrists and moved her aside to pick the lock. Her voice caught on the attempted thanks, buckling under a silent chorus of my fault my fault my fault.

[Being involved like this with a student wasn't really wise, especially for Hei. He wouldn't even go this far for other people. Yet as he worked at his job of training people, he kept getting closer to Makoto, even trusted with her secret. Things began to escalate the closer they got to one another, until they both just caved in.
