It's textbook, really. Or, more accurately, parchment, because you've either found yourself or always been in a time (it doesn't necessarily have to be medieval) where swords - and possibly sorcery - are the weapons and the mindset of the day; at the very least, the rough and tumble attitude that comes with a knife's edge permeates the land. And you know how to wield a weapon, be it a blade, your own body, or something else entirely, so you've put it to good use.

You've become a sworn sword to protect someone.

It could be out of the goodness of your heart, out of heritage, or stemmed from a desire for compensation or power. No matter what the cause, however, one fact remains the same, and that's how you cannot let emotions cloud your judgment.

Of course, that may be a little easier said than done. When you're so close to a person, in order to keep them safe, and when you put your very life on the line...

...ah, but you must persevere. Your duty does not allow you to falter.

{ options include -- for Ambrose being sworn to: happy to do some kind of medieval/time-ambiguous-aesthetic AU or urban higher-fantasy established, and play on him being the subject of hunters, or his own sire, who would very much like to make an example of Am for all his rebuking of him because wow, how dare he.

Unless: you'd like a vampire protecting yours in secrecy since I'm all about secret relationships as well, and most people just aren't big fans of guys with big fangs.

Assumed CR is fine, or we can PM to theorize their CR; permissions and info on journal. }

[I'm canonblind to Final Fantasy, so displacing Jackie straight into Noctis' canon would probably not work just because I wouldn't know abything about the surroundings, but would you be up to some freeform vaguely-medieval-fantasy setting?]

[They've been on the road for well over a week now.

In a much more comfortable way than most would be, for sure; but despite riding instead of walking and having comfortable shoes, it's still exhausting, and almost worse, the days are dragging on. And they still have two days to go.

So when they pass through an area with hot springs, Jakob can't but suggest to do a detour of a few hours.]

It will relax your muscles and skin and make you less sore and exhausted looking once we get to our destination, my prince, and I'm sure that will make you cast a better figure for the diplomatic tasks you are going to perform.

[It's a gamble, to send the prince with only his sworn sword on this trip. But in the end, it was reasoned, much safer: Try to go under the guise of anonymity and escape notice, instead of going with a large group to protect and show status. In tense times like these, not being recognised would go a longer way than any number of guards. And it wasn't like Noctis was entirely without protection.

After all Jakob was with him, and Jakob hadn't been chosen as his sword without reason. It was a very sought-after position, after all. Third and fourth sons of noble families from all over the kingdom vied for it, and it had been a surprise to all when a bastard - with noble blood, of course, but still a bastard - managed to win the position. He'd had to bring much more to the table than anyone else, but that he had done, and thus he's here today. There was luck too, he's sure. Just being admitted to the process of choosing, the tests and tournaments, had been more than he had hoped for.

But here he was. Even tough it wasn't nearly as glamorous right now as he'd thought it would be as a child.]

(Probably, the others vying for the position would have been disappointed. Noctis isn't glamorous. He plays the role when he must, but when no one was looking, he was much more relaxed. A life of trauma, including assassination attempts even as a child, left him guarded, but his father tried to make his life as normal as possible. The result is a prince who very much dislikes diplomatic missions, even if he goes without complaint.

When Jakob suggests a detour, his prince is all too happy to allow him the concession. He needs it as well. Grinning, he nods in Jackob's general direction.)

Since it's going to be for the nobles...

(His smile says it's anything but. It's going to be days of endless, dry talk that Noctis can barely stand. It's his duty, his role to play, but it isn't one he has to enjoy.)

We can probably spare a couple of hours and still make it on schedule. We're making pretty good time.
