[Of all the people Max could have fallen for, he never thought someone like Ion would be it. First, Ion is a boy. Well, Ion is a trap but that's beside the point. Ion is kind, optimistic, and so self-sacrificing that Max would hate that in anyone else. In Ion, it draws him in. He wants to protect Ion from the shitty people and circumstances in this life. In exchange, Ion makes Max feel like he wants to avoid the nothingness after Death a little while longer.

As they walk down the street, Max slowly moves his hand to brush Ion's. Fingers gently start to entwine with Ion's. He doesn't say or do anything else. He just wants to touch Ion, feel him, and remind himself this is all real.]

[Ion can't help the way he is, it just being part of how he reacts to things naturally. And that's a little of how he found his way to Max. The other boy's moody nature struck Ion as someone who could use a friend at first. He had pressed gently, backing off when it seemed like he was going too far and trying again later when Max seemed more approachable. Now they're so close and he can't help enjoy the connection he feels with Max now.

He glances down at their hands, a small smile forming on his lips as he entwines their fingers a little more. He squeezes gently, but he says nothing. No words are needed in the moment.]

[Max is quiet for a long moment. They keep walking, hands together, fingers entwined, and in silence. That is until they turn a corner.]

I was thinking when he returned to Earth after his crazy space adventures maybe, that way there's been that time apart so that they could fumble through things. prompts above that I was thinking of were 5, 10, 14, or 19. catching up with one another, maybe trying to talk through things they've been avoiding, etc. they have a lot of baggage, but what teenage mutant at that point of time doesn't? )
