[ Fortunately -- or perhaps UNfortunately, depending on how one looks at the perspective at hand -- one Integra Hellsing has finished her paperwork. She has finished all of her meetings, all of her phone conferences, all of her training with her men. Everything is done.

So now, as she sits at her desk, drumming her fingers, she is left with... nothing. Silence. She's never liked the silence very much... well, unless she's sleeping, but really, she certainly doesn't feel like doing that, either.

It's also no secret that she's been infatuated with her vampire for years; since she met him, really, and she knows he knows. He should by now, at least; after all, how many nights had they spent together doing things that had NOTHING TO DO with work? The odd, nervous glances they seemed to be getting more frequently from Seras? The girl knew but dared not to speak of it, which was good for her health.

Quietly, the young heiress leans back in her chair, the only light filtering through her office is from the moon, which is large and currently filtering in from her balcony doors just behind her desk. Closing her eyes, she sighs, before speaking quietly. If anyone else were in the room, one would think she was talking to herself, or calling someone who could not hear. ]

[ One could make the very reasonable argument that it was simply a matter of adaptation - it appeared as though Watson was thoroughly intent upon keeping the lady in his day to day life, and by extension, Holmes' as well, and if he wanted to manage even a passable attempt at maintaining some sort of consistent friendship, he would need to accept her in the same manner. The largest counterpoint therein is simply the veritable onslaught of perfectly mundane other situations in which he was abjectly steadfast in his refusal to alter his habits or lifestyle whatsoever, for even less reason. (Counterpoint to that in turn being the other onslaught of situations that prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Watson maintains a status of 'rather special', but this is beside the point, obviously.) Adaptation and evolution to match a changing environment naturally makes sense.

There was, however, another, both much simpler and far more complicated reason for the oh-so-glacially-gradual shift in his conception of the woman. That being, predominantly, that the more time he was - forced, I say, forced - into her company, the more it was apparent specifically why his best only friend had been so taken. She was, bluntly, unlike most others. Miss Watson possessed particular qualities that, while themselves not particularly remarkable, managed to nonetheless be rather appealing.

In terms of simpler, complicated, reasonable, and apparent, the situation this presented rather managed to be none of the four at all, for reasons that themselves, however, are very much each in turn.

The present moment itself similarly seemed to fall within and without this set of circumstances, clearly calling for some level of reassurance, or modicum of comfort, and he being all but incapable of actually knowing how to even begin going about such a thing. ] There, there. The situation could easily be worse - we're quite fortunate to simply be underground. Think of the issues involved with high levels; no, this is quite... [ Is he trying to pat her on the shoulder no of course not ] Manageable.

[X had been thinking, which admittedly he did quite a lot. Given how much time he had now outside of fighting it left him plenty of time to contemplate and evaluate every little situation. Was it truly fair of him to be doing something so selfish?

Zero was his best friend and he didn't want to chain Zero down by being with him. It ate at X with just how disgusting of a person, he truly was. He had deliberately chosen his own happiness over everyone else's. Over the world's. This...this had to end. He had to stop it.

...this was for the sake of the world. For that familiar future. He had to...he had to. He had to make things right.
