Interspecies Love Meme

Vampires and humans. Angels and demons. Ghosts and the living. The idea of "opposites attracting" is hardly a new one, but with the rise in popularity of supernatural creatures, aliens, and other sentient beings beyond our human understanding, the forbidden romance trope has been injected a shot of fresh blood- sometimes quite literally.

This meme does just that, taking the whole "not meant for each other" thing to it's most logical extreme. Of course, it's not always angst and depression. These days, mermaids and bird-people can have their relationships in peace to some degree.

Rules

• Comment with your character, putting any preferences you have (ie, "humanoid characters only," F/M, etc). Also, be sure to note your character's "species" for others to reference (Name | Character | OTA | Human, ghost, mutant, alien, vampire, god, zombie-catgirl hybrid, etc).
• Reply to others. If your characters aren't different species, feel free to AU or anything else like that.
• Use the rng to determine your prompt.
• Also I didn't think I needed to say this, but be excellent to each other. Dick comments and anon bullying are not on.

Prompts

1. Meeting: Did you know there were, I don't know, werewolves before this? Or maybe you thought all aliens were evil. Will this...thing change your perception?
2. Falling in Love: You know you're not the same, but your feelings don't care.
3. Self-Hate: Perhaps you're mad at the being you're in love with, yet you're more angry at yourself.
4. Can't Be Together: Whether for self-inflicted reasons or societal rules, you can't be in love with who your heart has chosen and it's putting a strain on you.
5. Pushing You Away: Things are getting too intense, and for both of your sake, you want to make friend/crush/lover hate you.
6. Beauty & the Beast: One of you is beautiful, the other hideous. Maybe, though, the beautiful one is ugly in the eyes of society, depending on where you live. Whatever the case is, you don't look the same.
7. Confession: Screw the rules, you're going to tell that sweet girl/guy/other how you feel! What can go wrong? Or this is something you've put a lot of thought into and you're scared, but you're going to do it.
8. First Time...or Not: Finally, the two of you are taking the next step and getting physical. It may go off without a hitch, depending on your...you know, or- OH GOD, HOW IS THAT GOING TO GO IN HERE. Wait, you have a...?
9. The Kinky Option: Hey, maybe being different will pay off. Think about it. A long tongue? Ghost powers? Sounds like it could be fun in the bedroom.
10. Prejudice: "What are you doing with that dirty monster?" "You know we can't be involved with humans!" "We don't take kindly to your type around here." Why can't people just leave you two be?
11. Facing Your Instinct: It's hard to be with someone when you want to suck their blood. Or eat their brains. Or possess them.
12. Because of Me: Your lover has been dragged into your fight or hurt by others of your kind. Now they're in the crossfire.
13. Standing Up For You: Hey, knock it off! I don't care what you think, he's perfect in my eyes.
14. You Don't Know You're Beautiful: The fluffy option where you're trying to make your loved one see just how much you care and how they're beautiful to you, no matter what.
15. Gifts: Show your affection with a gift from your culture.
16. Starting a Family: Can you even reproduce? Is it something you want to consider? Perhaps it's new ground to tread, so you'll have to be the first to think about it.

"Separate bedrooms," he states firmly and leans back. "We can't risk having the same one."

They've been working up to this for a while. Worked up towards enough of an income for a small flat together, figured out their relationship enough to decide that it is a good idea, and put their life in order so it will align to make this possible.

Now, they're finally properly moving towards it. But... "Or a convertible sofa in the living room, if we want one." Which would be the other option. They don't really have enough money for more than two rooms plus kitchen and bathroom.

And moving towards it probably means that he finally needs to bring his worries about permanently sharing a bed to the table. Though Fjord could probably tell that something would come up already, as he has never actually fallen asleep (or woken up) next to him.

Fjord knew that everyone had their secrets, those insecurities that made them act or else not act in order to preserve their comfort. He was good at noticing these things, and tended not to push when his occasional questions were shot down. The question about the bed thing had come up before in one form or another, but mostly Fjord - who had been a sailor for a good portion of his life - figured Wolke's issues lied within commitment.

So when the topic of separate beds is introduced in the midst of shopping around for apartments together, Fjord visibly hesitates, his brow furrowing. Now he's starting think maybe this has more to do with how their relationship is perceived by others.

"Okay..." He responds, slowly, dragging his thumb up and down the edge of the notepad he'd been keeping on all the figures of their budget and areas they were meant to go exploring. "And should anyone ask, we're what? Roommates?"

That, in turn, gives Wolke pause. "I assumed-"

No, that's not what this actually meant. What Fjord heard in his words. He should have known what this would sound like. He didn't. Stupid, he thinks. Too caught up in your own worries. Pay attention.

They haven't referred to each other as "boyfriend" before, mostly because it barely came up. They have little overlap in people they know, and Wolke isn't a person who is very open about his personal life with strangers.

"I've been referring to you as my boyfriend when it came up with others."

Well, when it came up with his pack. It's really hard to keep a physical relationship from werewolves for very long. Especially when more than one of them prefer to hang out in their wolf form....though he mostly did refer to Fjord as his boyfriend to keep certain members of his pack from making fun of him or insinuating things. Or trying to interpret humanoid relationships with wolf logic.

But the point is, he has used the word to refer to Fjord.

"I assumed moving in together would make that official." ...He just hopes that that was the right answer. This is not the right time to cause that kind of upset in the other young man. Not that the hopes that there will ever be.

So once it looks like the man has found a place to settle with his music, he sets a nice, big fish on the river bank and sits back to wait.]

[Peter likes to get his groove on when and where he can - there's just something freeing about rocking it out, loosening the muscles and joints to the beat of a song that he's heard more times than he can count. After working up the way the riverbank, one hand with the scanner looking for pings for that transponder that'll net him a crap-ton of units, he decides to widen his search.

That search brings him to the fish he nearly puts his boot through. It's big, slimy and there's what looks like webbed alien handprints in the mud. Peter thumbs the pause on his Zune, one hand coming up to tug the headphone from his ear as he glances around and there's the guy. Alien head sticking out of the water, big eyes glistening at him. He'd say the alien's not so bad looking but you can never tell if they're hot or they want to straight-up eat you for dinner or you just looked at them wrong]

This whole thing for me? Looks big enough to share.

[Zelgadis' journey to find a cure for his cursed body has led him to a lot of strange places, circumstances, and people. he's scaled mountains to ancient dragon valleys, scoured forbidding deserts and blizzards, rode a...an ancient city on wheels.......... he definitely got to stare down an apocalypse or two -- one of which was instigated by family...twice.........the same family who saw fit to curse him to a chimera body in the first place. but hey, you know? them's the breaks or whatever. insert a life-gives-you-lemons saying or something about cards here. he handles it, one way or the other.

you know what he doesn't really handle well? interpersonal communication. relationships. people. girls. it's all well and fine until someone decides to become endearing, or worse...attractive.

dammit, Rey. this was supposed to be a lonely, deserted journey, you know? now he's all reliant on a woman who's lived her life in these harsh conditions, all being...really good at teaming up to fight off bandits and stuff...

[he yanks his mask down and huffs, the heat of the day stifling even to a guy with stone skin. waiting around while someone else does the interesting stuff isn't really his style, but someone had to watch their transportation... and yes, he did concede she's the expert in scavenging, but it doesn't make his pride hurt any less. so here he is, under the shadow of the looming garbage behind him, finagling with old found-items he's been collecting along the way. colorful pieces of glass, wire, other shiny things...]

Rey. [he calls, tilting his head up over his shoulder to the old ship wreck.

after a beat, he tries again, a little louder.]

Rey. Are you almost done?

[Rey has plenty of experience with people, but... it's not usually one-on-one experience. Or if it is, it's usually arguing with a trader to try and get a better price for some scrap she's salvaged. But having people that she spends time with just because she enjoys their company.... She understands that it's a basic need for most sentient creatures, but it's something she's always been able to do without.

At least, that's what she likes telling herself.

Having someone trail along with her isn't a sensation she's used to, but Zeldagis is good enough company. A little impatient at times, maybe, as evidenced right now when he's rushing her while she's trying to find something of enough worth to Unkarr Plutt to feed two mouths instead of the one she's used to, but he's otherwise decent. Decent is hard to come by on this world.

It doesn't mean she's above startling him if she can manage it, so after she secures her findings in her knapsack and straps that onto her back, she climbs over the ledge of the pile.]

Catch!

[She doesn't actually expect him to catch her as she suddenly hops the ledge, but she's good at tucking and rolling or even landing on her feet if she's not jumping from a high distance, so she assumes she's going to end up landing right besides him if he's too startled to move.]

[his ears twitch at the sound of her climbing up, and he squints, blinking her shape into view, backlit by a relentless sun overhead.

catch, she says. catch what? she better not be thinking to drop a--]

Gih-!! [his elbows bang the scrap behind him as he fumbles, arts and crafts forgotten and sent scattering to the sand as he straightens up, then immediately crouches to brace. lady, he is far too used to projectiles to not be ready for an impact.

to say nothing of the many times he, himself, was the projectile.

anyway. maybe there's points for effort, for even though she safely lands at his side, he at least had his arms out, even if...his head is tilted back as if the last thing he wanted to do was catch her. hardly meaning to offend: she'd get scraped up something awful if she'd wound up grazing his head, hair being all wire and such.]

... [after a beat, he slowly eases out of posture, blinking and shooting her a curious stare. but once there's eye contact, he is shaken out of that, quickly pulling up his mask and looking away while dusting his arms off.

she doesn't look any worse for wear. that's good. sometimes it's hard to tell... she's not delicate, he's found, but she's still flesh and bone, at risk for harm. the possibility's always there, so worry will be there, too.]
