The Sentinel and Guides AU Meme
Sentinels and Guides are Known:
A Sentinel!AU Meme
A Sentinel!AU Meme
There are special people in the world: Sentinels--whose five senses are incredibly enhanced, sometimes to the point of overwhelming and who can easily lose themselves in fugue states--and Guides, the empaths with the ability to ground a Sentinel and focus them. Meant to be the protectors of the Guides, for every Sentinel there exists a guide that is their perfect match. In some universes, when matches are made, a Sentinel and Guide form a soulbond to fill the feeling of emptiness.
How easy was it for you to find yours? How are Sentinels and Guides treated in your universe? Or maybe you're one of the normal, unremarkable people. Do you fear Sentinels and Guides? Despise them?

Prompts
oo1. The Meeting:
How did you meet? Was it at an event organized specifically for finding your other half? By accident? Did you follow a mystical calling to them? Some other way?
oo2. The Bonding:
Do Sentinels and Guides in your universe soulbond? How does it go down? Is there a ceremony or do you just retreat to the bedroom?
oo3. Rejection:
Sometimes Sentinels or Guides propose a match but it's just not perfect. You don't feel the pull or maybe you think there is someone better or maybe you're already claimed. Maybe you were claimed and someone better came along?
oo4. Protection:
Sentinels are meant to protect Guides, any Guides, but it's even worse when they feel their Guide is in danger. They go feral; blind to anything but stopping and killing whoever threatened their Guide or the bond. Maybe someone attacked your Guide or you haven't bonded yet and you feel threatened or maybe you're the one doing the threatening. Whatever the reason, Sentinels in a feral state are dangerous and only their Guides can stop them.
oo5. Lost:
Sentinels often lose themselves in their senses. Either you're a Sentinel who has lost themselves or a Guide that has stumbled on one or a friend trying to draw them out. Unbonded Sentinels will find it hard to escape without a Guide. Or maybe you're bonded already which means you just need yours to come home.
006. Persecution:
Sometimes normal people or the government fear the power of Guides and Sentinels. Guides are empaths, feeling the emotions and sometimes passing thoughts of others and it can make people feel violated. Sentinels often have enhanced strength, which can make them dangerous. So they scorn them, hurt them or in the case of governments, regulate them.
oo7. Death:
Unbonded Sentinels and Guides eventually lose themselves to the empty cavern inside them. Torn apart from the inside by the feeling of something missing. Breaking the soulbond of a Sentinel and Guide is agonizing and horrifying, leading quickly to death for the remaining partner.
oo8. Old-School:
Guides used to be treated on the same level as slaves. Unable to work unless their Sentinel said. Not allowed out on their own. They used to wear collars and couldn't own land or inherit money. Maybe the old ways haven't completely fallen out of style.
oo9. Unbonded:
Nothing is worse than being an unbonded Guide or Sentinel. Always looking for your other half to fill that empty feeling but you probably have friends that aren't your match or who are trying to set you up with someone. Maybe you're skeptical about the whole love at first sight thing and haven't been looking.
o10. Wildcard: Some mish-mash of the above or anything else you can come up with!

"We can send him a nice card." Loki grinned.
He tilted his hand, fingers moving lightly against Clint's. "I think I would rather hear it again, if freely given."
no subject
He laughed at that, imagining the look on Fury's face. "We'll see if we can find a nice postcard from somewhere exotic. Nice tropical beach or something."
He was silent for a moment, sipping the last of his coffee. It couldn't hurt and Loki knew, but when he'd told him last time, there'd been no room in his head for emotion.
"Alright. I, uh, grew up in Waverly. It's a pretty small town. Lived there with my dad and my mom and my brother. My dad, he was mean. And he drank which made him meaner. And I was a mouthy kid, too young to know when to shut up and hide. And mom... I dunno. Think she'd been with him too long, been hurt too much to have any will to defy him. So when he lashed out, at me, my brother when he could, she'd just let him." And he can't keep the resentment from his voice, because she'd been his mom and all the soft words and apologies afterwards couldn't make up for her silence during.
"It was a mess. They'd keep me out of school a lot because of black eyes and bruises, which just got social services onto us, which made things worse. Until one day, he drank a bottle and took mom out driving. Didn't know until the cops came around."
no subject
He grinned. "That would be lovely indeed. I can imagine the look on his face."
Loki listened quietly. These things he knew already, but it was different, when they were offered willingly. And the flavor of emotion was different as well. Everything under the Tesseract's influence had been muted, tainted with its presence. This, he could truly feel. "I am sorry," he said quietly.
no subject
Or she might hunt him down and drag him back by his hair. Difficult to tell right now.
He smiled, a bitter twist of his lips, biting into his muffin defiantly. "There's a million other kids with a story just the same. Well, up until the circus and becoming an assassin. I think that's just me." It'd always been much easier to laugh it off, deflect because it was nothing special. How many other kids went through that and came out just fine.
no subject
He shrugged. "Each story has its own unique parts. That is often the key to understanding." And as little as he often cared about people, understanding them was always a key point, the thing that showed how best to push them to achieve his ends.
no subject
"You find that weakness, that unique part and that's the key to unlocking exactly what that person needs and wants." He tilted his head slightly, regarding Loki. "I'm a spy as well as a killer, and I've watch Nat work. It's not entirely unfamiliar to me."
no subject
Loki nodded. "Indeed. She plays the game well."
no subject
He finished off his coffee and sighed softly, starting to pick at the muffin. "We are gonna have to get you some kind of fake ID. I have a bunch for me but you're completely off the grid."
no subject
He raised an eyebrow. "If I am attempting to remain unnoticed, should I be in any situation where I would need... ID?" He still wasn't entirely certain what that entailed, really.
no subject
"It's just in case. I'd rather have a backup than leave things 'til the last moment."
no subject
He nodded. "I can certainly agree with the urge to have a backup plan. I normally have them myself." This entire thing had been uncharacteristic for him, disturbingly so.
no subject
He smirked slightly at Loki's admission. No backup plan, no certainty... "So what you're saying here, boss, is that I drive you crazy."
no subject
He laughed, but the sound subsided and left behind a strange sort of heat in his gaze as he regarded Clint. "That would seem to be the case, yes."
He reached out and grabbed one of Clint's hands, bringing it to him so he could press his lips against the inside of Clint's wrist.
no subject
The look that Loki gave him left him slightly breathless, unable to look away even if he'd wanted to. He swallowed thickly when Loki's lips brushed against his wrist, and damn, he'd never considered that a particularly erotic spot but Loki was making it one. "You keep up like that, and I don't think the car is going anywhere for a while."
no subject
His lips curled in a smile against Clint's skin. "Oh no. I'll be kept from the wonders of the open road a bit longer. Whatever shall I do?" He kissed that spot again and nipped it lightly.
no subject
"Don't say I didn't warn you," Clint said, a little breathlessly when he felt the graze of teeth against his pulse point.
no subject
Loki smiled, tasting Clint's skin with the tip of his tongue. "I'm quite contrary, you know."
no subject
His eyes dropped half closed, fixed on Loki's lips and the tip of his tongue. "I'm getting that impression, yeah."
no subject
He smirked, pressing another kiss next to the first, adding another light scrape of his teeth.
no subject
He made a soft noise of pleasure when Loki did that, and reached out, his fingers brushing lightly against Loki's cheek, brushing along his jawline.
no subject
And really, Volstagg had always been the kindest about things.
Loki smiled, tilting his face into the touch for a moment, eyes slipping half shut. That smile took on a wicked edge as he nipped lightly at one of Clint's fingers.
no subject
The nip against his fingers sent all of his thoughts spiraling towards one thing and he leaned in to kiss Loki.
no subject
Loki accepted the kiss with a wicked smile and caught Clint's collar with his hand. He nipped at the man's lips, kissing with a hunger he never displayed toward food.
no subject
The hand wrapped in his collar was wonderfully possessive and he kissed back eagerly, sliding one hand to rest against the back of Loki's neck, sliding into his hair.
no subject
He didn't mind that they were in a parking lot. As far as he was concerned, that just added to the fun, a little thrill of danger. He'd always really enjoyed that.
