Arranged Marriage Turned More To have and to hold, you said, till death do us part, all while the sharp, swinging pendulum of obligation hung overhead. But how could you have truly meant those words? This union has been tainted from the start, forever bearing the chains of an arranged marriage. It would be understandable if you couldn't bear to look at your new life partner, eternal reminder of your stolen future that they are, much less like them. Much less love them... Still, things can change. You could realize that they are in the same boat as you or, that when compared to others around you, they are the lesser of evils. Perhaps you even open up to the idea of a friendship; at the very least, an alliance may be in order to become a power couple in a perilous world. From that innocent decision or sense of self-preservation, a new feelings sparks. Something like affection. Something, you realize in the wake of speeding heartbeats, like love. Will you acknowledge this? Can the two of you have a happily ever after - happier than if you'd met in another fashion - or will you hold firm in your distaste? how to play. - Everybody loves "couples forged by less-than-ideal circumstances" tropes! - Comment with your character, prefs, all that good stuff. - Reply to others. - IDEC where you set your threads, it's wide open. Fantasy world with hairy hobbits, old-timey lands, future AUs, do a space marriage for all I care. I'm sure they're still getting married in Star Wars or whatever.

[Within her canon, it'd be easy to justify an arranged marriage to settle a feud between survivors, solidify a merger of communities, a matter of tribute/capture, or to help ensure everyone's got skin in the game for some kind of longterm deal (our meds for your food or w/e). (It'd also probably be be easiest if it's Dawn/Grady Hospital making the deal rather than Rick & co.!) If you've got another idea, or if there's something in your canon that you like the idea of, I'm all in favor! Interested in both canon and cross-canon CR, happy to do things in her world, your character's world, some kind of forced-marriage jamjar, or a complete AU! This is one of my favourite tropes, and I'll gladly play it any way I can.]

von rothart's plan was simple; relieve odette of her curse, now that her prince was taken (by her, her) and pose as her father, marry her off to some unlikely candidate and let her rot in such a traditional prison. perhaps he couldn't find a prince proper, perhaps he didn't even look, in the end he chose hamlet, the danish princess, who was exiled and insane, they say, from grief. odette understands, she too is grieving and she too has gone everywhere, to insanity as well, she thinks.

the manor where they live is dark and damp and it rains often outside the windows, downpours across the fields that lie at their feet. there's a lake not far from the gardens and at times, traitorously, odette misses her daily swan-form, if only for the freedom of flying and the company of the other swan maidens. the manor smells of humanity.

[Belle had always sworn up and down that she'd never live to see a day where she married Gaston. After all, he was everything she despised: arrogant, vain, shallow, and overflowing with the kind of masculinity that one might term 'toxic' a couple of centuries into the future. His continued pursuit of her had always pushed her further away from him, erasing over time any doubt in her mind that they were completely wrong with each other.

But then...her father had taken ill, grown so weak and frail that Belle was almost afraid to go to sleep at night, because she might awaken to find him gone. And Maurice, bless him...he'd only wanted what was best for his daughter. Only wanted to find a way to keep her safe after he was gone, keep a roof over her head and food in her belly. His dying act was to arrange a union between his daughter and Gaston.

And Belle...as much as every fiber of her being screamed against this, wanted to protest loudly and often until her father relented, she couldn't bring herself to deny Maurice his dying wish. She knew it would bring nothing but misery for her, but she understood, too, that her father only wanted to keep her off the streets. Keep her safe.

At her insistence, the wedding was a quiet affair, a month after her father's passing—long enough for her to bury him and mourn him and get her affairs in order. Sell the things she needed to, pack up the things she wanted to keep, arrange for the sale of the cottage she'd always called home. The ceremony was attended by Monsieur Lefou, officiated by Pére Robert, and one of the ladies of the village to stand up on Belle's side, and afterward she stood at the threshold of the church, staring out onto the village square with a tight lump in her throat, watching her new husband descend the steps ahead of her.
