It would be understandable if you couldn't bear to look at your new life partner, eternal reminder of your stolen future that they are, much less like them. Much less love them... Still, things can change. You could realize that they are in the same boat as you or, that when compared to others around you, they are the lesser of evils. Perhaps you even open up to the idea of a friendship; at the very least, an alliance may be in order to become a power couple in a perilous world. From that innocent decision or sense of self-preservation, a new feelings sparks. Something like affection. Something, you realize in the wake of speeding heartbeats, like love. Will you acknowledge this? Can the two of you have a happily ever after - happier than if you'd met in another fashion - or will you hold firm in your distaste? how to play. - Everybody loves "couples forged by less-than-ideal circumstances" tropes! - Comment with your character, prefs, all that good stuff. - Reply to others. - IDEC where you set your threads, it's wide open. Fantasy world with hairy hobbits, old-timey lands, future AUs, do a space marriage for all I care. I'm sure they're still getting married in Star Wars or whatever.

Everything was formalized, in the culture of Cainhurst. The appropriate depth of bows to different members of court. The way one should sit when taking tea without a table. How one should enter a room, or be introduced, or pen a letter.

Appearance was as powerful as manner. Was part and parcel of what was considered power. In many cases, these rituals encoded one's station, and dignity, and purity of blood.

In others, they had more profound meaning.

Knights of Cainhurst, especially those so profound in their quality that they had at one time enjoyed such honors as numbering among the Royal Guard, sanctified and ritualized their acceptance of arms and armor. Finding a worthy blade could be the work of months or years, when one did not have a specific commission to make. And it was a critical part of any knight forging his identity.



There was nothing of Cainhurst left but ruins, now. And beasts, creeping among the artistry of the courtyard, where once there'd been the sussurus of cunning conversation, and the laughter of lords and ladies at their entertainments. But Martin never once wondered who he was still doing these rituals for.

"With a gift of blood to seal my oaths to thee, I take thee for mine," he whispered. Candles lit the small chapel. The pews were dust-covered and empty. The wan, yellow light gleamed off the electrum-chased phases of the moon etched into the stone of the archway above them. His lips were still wet from the blood in the small, shallow-bowled silver chalice that his own elegant hands pressed into Ichigo's.

It's a long standing family feud. One that needed to be put to rest for the sake of both their families. Or... so that was what was said face to face. But his mother is not so kind. And her grandma not so foolish. This could only possibly end in one way.

When Seishirou found out he was betrothed his intent was to kill that person because really. Who was his mother to go and arrange such an ugly thing? Sumeragi was the name. And a Sumeragi is what he found. He's a soft little boy full of kindness an light. Well... call it a lack of interest at the sight of something so pathetic. Because that certainly what it was and nothing else. In fact... in that very moment he came up with a fantastic plan. They'll get older and get to know each other. And then if he finds he can't feel anything he'll drop that little Sumeragi off a cliff or something. It's really quite a simple solution and going through with the marriage or at least making an attempt will appease his mother.

And so the years pass and it's finally time to meet his betrowed. Little Subaru Sumeragi, right? They met long ago but young Subaru won't remember that. No... But he does.

Seishirou sits at the small table beside his mother. She's dressed in long flowing garments and looks ever like a frail doll. And across the way will be where Subaru and his withering grandma will take their place and they can meet for the "first" time.

However what walks through the door is not who he was expecting. They look the same. The eyes. The round cheeks. But no... No, this isn't the Subaru Sumeragi he met years ago. This is very clearly someone else.

He stiffens but hides his displeasure quite well. His mother, on the other hand, sighs and clasps her hands together, going so far as to lean on him.

"Isn't she darling? I'd mistake her for some doll in a shop. I thought she'd be perfect for you."
