That's not the case with werewolf pairings, as they tend to grow out of natural pack dynamics and are viewed as just another facet of life. His fingers twitched at the feel of his mate's skin, and he smiled against the back of her neck as her familiar scent enveloped him. These were his favourite mornings. Occasionally they were apart. It was never easy being apart from her, but he trusted Natasha. He had no fear of her straying, finding another wolf. No, it was the concern of her coming back injured or taken by hunters that made him nervous.

But he also realised he had no right to feel that way when he was just as capable of putting himself in the line of fire.

Still, these mornings were definitely his favourite. When they woke up together and there was nothing to think about but each other. He rubbed his nose against her skin, letting out a low growl before he nipped her shoulder and began the process of waking her up. ]

But to Caleb's credit, he hadn't. Not last night. But something in him had changed because the deep scratch was just scar tissue now. It was only the blood that would need washing off. Matt couldn't look at it without feeling the twist in his stomach. Or still hearing the sound of his claws tearing through Caleb's back.

Matt ran his fingers through his hair and moved to stand by the window. Not that he could look out of it, but moving at least made him feel less guilty for all of a few seconds.

Erik had warned him about it after he'd turned him, after they'd realised that Pietro was an omega and that this was a reality he'd have to live with. However, despite knowing it was something that would happen, Pietro hadn't been ready for just how intense it was.

It had started slowly. A heat low in his belly and an itchiness he couldn't get rid of. Over the period of the day, it had only gotten worse until all he couldn't keep his hands off of Erik and he'd all but begged Erik to fuck him into the mattress.

When his heat had ended, Pietro had slept for 14 hours straight, waking only to pee and drink water at Erik's insistence.

He wakes slowly, stretching and groaning as he does. "Erik?"

It'd been a minute since Erik had been in any close proximity to an omega before Pietro; his pack, his family, that he'd turned his back on over a Sokovian refugee was full of alphas and betas at this point. Now it was just the two of them, and while Erik missed the noise and comfort, the familiarity of family and pack?

He loved Pietro more.

His family were isolationists; werewolves that kept to themselves and bred others of their kind and had no interest in turning humans. Erik had been content with that, kind of, but was always angry at the hunters, at the other werewolves who prayed on human fears and caused life to be more difficult for his people.

He'd known that choosing Pietro would be seen as turning his back on family, on tradition, but loving a mortal human even from a distance would've been even more dangerous. Erik was never good at doing a thing by halves.

So while Pietro slept Erik sat up, reading and occasionally napping, reminding Pietro to rouse and drink and relieve himself before things became too uncomfortable. A few times he left the room just to make himself food, saving Pietro's servings in glass containers in the fridge. He'd be hungry, he knew, and he was in the kitchen when he heard Pietro rouse.

With the full moon approaching, an itch had started underneath Steve's skin and a heat pooled and twisted up in his stomach. The military wasn't the best place for a small werewolf to be, but it wasn't as if Levi had much a choice. The rankings were hard to navigate through and didn't always follow the same lines as a pack dynamic. It drove him to be a loner, it was easier than trying to figure out who to follow or lead. He only answered to those with a title higher than himself.

Levi had been an easy target, picked up when he was young after his pack had been massacred. He stayed smaller than average, making him a prime candidate for stealth missions, especially those that required a speedy assassination. It gave him admiring looks from time to time, but he only ever slept with anyone when he was in heat. Otherwise, he didn't give a damn about finding a mate, not until he met Gabriel.

There was something about the other werewolf that made his blood race even on a normal day. He was competent, with a commanding presence and most importantly, a good sense of hygiene. It was almost too easy for him to fall for Gabriel, but of course being the little shit he was he didn't make it easy on himself. He made the larger wolf work for it.

It's been a few days since they've seen each other with Levi out on a mission. But the small wolf makes quick work in sniffing out his partner as soon as his boots hit the ground from the helicopter.
