set us up I believe in you
i feel like i'm going to do this wrong. but whatever. 6.
People aren't meant to dump Sherlock Holmes. It's not like he's in relationships all that often, but when he is, he's the one that dumps people. He's far to brilliant to leave, so why on earth is he sat in Greg Lestrade's office, reading about a woman who died six years previously in strange circumstances?
The minute Lestrade returns with two coffees, Sherlock looks up with an incredible scowl on his face. ]
He dumped me.
pshawww
Lestrade takes a seat, puts Sherlock's cup down in front of him. ]
Okay. What happened?
don't you pshaw me
[ And he's not even sure why. He pulls his cup closer and glares down into it, thinking about the last conversation they had. ]
He said that I'm too obsessed with Moriarty and that I need to pick one or the other. I'm not obsessed with him, I just think it's important to know your enemy.
[ This is where he looks up at Lestrade. ] What do you think?
I will pshaw forever
Depends. Who are we talking about?
no how dare you
/pshaws into the wind
You and John, then- really? [ That would put Donovan out fifty pounds if this were the sort of thing he'd actually gossip about.
Pity he won't be mentioning it. ]
/HUFFS
Is it really so surprising?

Why do you figure my wife started cheating on me?
no subject
[ Either one's fine with Sherlock. He takes a sip himself, eyeing Lestrade carefully. It's not as though he needs to go into details, is it? ]
no subject
First one, Sherlock. I always brought the job home with me- every time, because it's not just a job. Couldn't separate 'em. And I don't mean the way you and John go tearing off across London like the nutters you are, solving cases and heading back for a movie. I mean there was always something I was thinking about, a case or a suspect or a victim, and very much not my wife, and goes to figure she didn't much care for taking second seat to some poor sod who got shot and left for dead.
[ But maybe he's straying a bit. ] Moriarty's not your personal life, much as he tries to stick himself in there. But when a man is his job, that doesn't say much. And other people get upset about that.
no subject
He listens to what Lestrade says, though, frowning all the while. ]
He knows I can't just stop thinking about him. My mind's impossible to turn off. And for the record, if I were married to you and I'd discovered that you'd been shagging men, I'd be inclined to cheat too.
no subject
If John's not willing to put up with it, god knows it's a serious issue. Give him some time, try talking about it. And if you two really can't find a compromise... I won't lie, if it gets down to that then it might be for the best anyway.

For John. And you.
no subject
They both know what Sherlock would be without him.
Jokingly, ]
What's your take on rebound sex?
[ or is it. ]
no subject
Good today, regretted tomorrow. [ Or... whenever it is that John makes the first step in patching things up. Assuming this is like nearly any aspect of their life, where he makes concessions and somehow doesn't haul off and punch Sherlock in the face. If it's not, well. Really a pity. ]
no subject
He starts stripping his jacket off, leaning against the cabinet behind him, fingers idly playing with a marker. ]
Do you miss me?
no subject
I'm sure you'd like to know.
no subject
[ And oh, he's smiling, of course he is. You're too easy to read, Lestrade. ]
no subject
Aren't you professional.
no subject
No, but you've always known that. Are you still hoping for a second chance with your wife? I'd suggest just ending it, but then I've never been the best judge of sentiment.
