The Premise • Ideas • OOC The Premise Ah, the joy of pregnancy. Many people consider it a true blessing to be able to bring. For others, admittedly, it's not exactly planned. A scant few years ago, Zuko hadn't even been thinking about having children of his own. After all, the world was still in such a sorry state. Even after he'd ascended the Fire Nation throne and ended the Hundred Year War, there had been fighting with the Earth Kingdom and the strain that had put on him. And through all of that difficulty, he'd thought he'd lost one of the few people who he could count on.

Perhaps it was because he recognized his failings as her boyfriend that, now that they were married and also expecting their first child, he was determined not to just leave her well-being to the royal servants. With the added workload of a doting, dutiful husband and father-to-be added to his other duties as Fire Lord, it was a little hectic at times for him, but he knew far better than to complain.

In fact, with Mai, he wouldn't have traded any of it for the world.

He nudged his way into the bedroom, his hip pushing the door open as he carried a tray of freshly prepared food, all for her.

"Here, I brought you dinner," he informed her with a gentle smile, nudging the door shut behind him with a foot. She was at the part of her pregnancy where she was having the most random sorts of cravings, so he'd made sure to bring what he thought was a diverse enough sampling of food that no matter what she was craving, it would be there.

Needless to say, the royal chefs had not been too happy with him, but then again, his royal chefs weren't the love of his life and also carrying his future heir.

Tagging a firehouse isn't the smartest thing a person can do. Natasha is at least smart enough to cut out when the sun comes up, returning to finish the next night. It actually sort of makes it better. They know she's out there, now. They'll be watching. In fact, she can see the shadow of someone watching her wall from a top floor window. It might be the subject matter that's getting to them. Natasha's art takes the bitterness of her past and forces the world to stare at it. In this case, firemen being rescued from a raging inferno by women and children, soot covered and in obvious pain, unprotected, carrying and dragging fully grown men in their gear to safety.

She can't finish it if she can't get to it, though. She doesn't think twice about throwing a flaming bottle of cheap vodka into an abandoned building at the very edge of their territory. In fact, she's smiling when she gets back, her wall now unguarded. Unguarded, but not abandoned.

One major flaw of hers, though, is her tendency to be a motormouth and talk before she thinks. That's gotten her into more than one bit of trouble. But she makes up for it with loyalty to her friends and her employer, the prince of the Spirit World.

Arthur honestly hadn't known what to expect when SHEILD had tracked him down and given him the choice of either helping them with their interests in PASIV technology or serve time for all of the illegal activities he had engaged in over the years, he just knew that he preferred the former over the latter.

Meeting someone like Agent Romanoff aka "the Black Widow" was really just a perk of the job (he had to make himself see it as that rather than focus on how she could probably kill him with her bare hands quite easily). The fact that she was beautiful as well as dangerous was just the beginning: she was intelligent, capable and, he found after taking her under with the PASIV unit, a fast learner.

He was impressed by how easily she seemed to grasp it all, even handling the dreamscape with a skill and precision he hadn't expected of a "novice". She only seemed to get better with practice, even giving him a run for his money in his own mazes.

Which was why he was more than a little confused when one day she hadn't been able to hold the dream, the stability of it faltering before it collapsed and they were both kicked out and were awake once more.

Arthur had done his fair share of stupid things in his life but what he had with Brandt didn't count among them.

At least not yet. He tried to keep to one-night stands with people outside of their "profession" purely because it was just easier that way. Arthur got what he wanted (as did the other person) and then he'd be gone before they woke up. No muss, no fuss. No complications to make his already sometimes-hectic life more complicated.

But it had only taken one night with Brandt for both to keep coming back to each other. So much so that they tended to get a hotel room together when they went on the same job together.
