Underwater Meme

Whether it’s The Little Mermaid or 20,000 leagues, this meme is all about the mysterious depths of the sea and the creatures that live in it. Which now very well may include you. Are you a marine biologist, a submarine explorer, or a creature of the dark and murky abyss? Perhaps, like Ahab, you’ve spent years on the waves, hunting some creature that lurks beneath. Perhaps you live in a house by the sea, and every night you watch the waves, but tonight the waves have dragged in something new and different.

There are unknown realms beneath the sea. Dread Cthulhu sleeps. Ariel sings. And adventure is awaiting.

How to play:
- Post with your character’s preferred role and a prompt or two, along with preferences and any canon or AU info that might be important.
- Venture forth into the watery deeps.

[In canon, he's a horse-tailed/eared fisherman who loves the water more than most things. A scenario where he's pulled underwater or is searching for something would work well as long as we magic a way for him to breathe underwater. If we take any Shape of Water or Little Mermaid route, I prefer to ship him with men, but otherwise we can see what we come up with.]

[A somewhat benevolent siren who might try to sing you away from those rocks or rescue you from a shipwreck. I'd also be interested in playing her as a land-dweller's secret mermaid friend.]

[years and leagues away from the desert commune where they'd grown up, Bel still knows all the stories the grownups used to tell to explain why their ancestors had moved so far inland. disbelief seemed impolite when the sea was as distant as a story. it's not so distant now, jewel-smooth stones glimmering with barnacles in the tide pools after the morning's storm, strange bladdery weeds and broken shells cast all the way up to the grassline. with no idea what any of it is, Bel's still charmed by the variety and ambles on alone, little caring how long it's been since the company camp fell out of sight back along the shoreline.]

[Someone's coming.

The song dies on Wanda's lips as she slips off the rock and dives into the water. Some humans are...all right, but enough are not that Wanda would really rather not be seen. Just because she can handle a single problematic human doesn't mean she wants to.

She peers out from behind the rock she was sitting on, scarlet tail fully hidden under the water, and watches.]

Savitar - The Flash

[ Anything goes. Mer-creature, eldritchy thing, PIRATES, 'oops I opened an aquarium'. W/E. ]

[Cisco is officially a siren that saves ships from rocks instead of leading them to them. Pirate Sav?]

[vivifier]

[ TOTALLY. ]

[Cisco knows that most of his kind are evil. That they use their melodious voices and beautiful faces to tempt sailors to their deaths. But from the moment he sang his first note, he knew he didn't want to be like them. The sea is a dangerous enough place as it is without the help of the sirens.

So he does the opposite. When he sees ships in danger of wrecking in the fog or the remnants of storms, he coaxes them away. Songs of warning to urge their bows from the sharp rocks. Unfortunately, they don't always hear him in time.]

[ Like this particular ship, for instance? Savitar's ship, well the ship he's currently stationed on anyway. It's not his ship by any means, nor is it the best ship on the sea. He is, however, on deck when they crash in the fog. The hazards of a captain who doesn't listened to warnings, he supposes, or trusts them not at all. ]

[Cisco can hear the cracking of the hull as it slams against the rocks. The screaming of the men on board. He'd always been told to avoid humans for his own safety, but he can't just sit here while those men die. He has to help them.

So he swims for the sinking ship. He's only one person, and it means he has to choose. Who needs his help the most? Probably the man sinking toward the abyss. He dives sharply, catching his arm and swimming him to the safe side of the island, where the land is soft sand instead of jagged stone.]

He doesn't really fight the sinking all that much, what's really the point of doing that when you're out to sea and there's not really anyone or anything that can save you this far out? He'd consider himself lucky to only drown, honestly. Rather than be torn apart by sirens or sunk by any other monster of the sea.

Being suddenly caught and pulled to safety well. That's startling.

Cisco gets him up onto the beach, then watches him for a moment, concerned. He'll stay another minute. Make sure the man is breathing. And then he's gone.

It's a strange thing to wake up on a beach, soaking wet and alone. He's out of it enough that he remembers the crash but not so much the man who dragged him up here. So he really has no idea how he got here. It's not like there's even a sign of the wreckage.

[goodviberations]

Cisco should leave now. The man has woken up. He's alright. There's no reason to stay.

But he can't bring himself to. He's never been this close to a human before. Most of his kind would consider that a blessing, but Cisco has always been the curious sort. He wants to know about them. Wants to know what makes them different. Wants to know if anything is the same. So he stays.

[vivifier]

Awake and all right for the most part. Tired, but that's not surprising. A crash and a near drowning will do that. And a little out of it, so when he fully awakens and there's someone beside him that he absolutely knows was not on that ship well. He's not entirely sure how to react. "I...who are you?" Sure. Go with that, Savitar.

Cisco tilts his head as the human looks around.

"My name is Cisco." There's a lilt to his voice. Almost musical. And it seems likely that English isn't his first language.

"How...how did I get here?" Surely, he didn't fall off the ship and land here. Out of it might have been an understatement.

[goodviberations]

"You were drowning," he explains. "I pulled you from the water."

[vivifier]

Somehow that both does and doesn't explain things. "Why...what were you doing in the water?"

[goodviberations]

Cisco hesitates, then glances sideways where his tail gently flicks. "I live there."

[vivifier]

He should be afraid, shouldn't he? A siren, or whatever. But he wasn't drowned, he was saved. Why? "Why did you help me?"

[goodviberations]

"You were going to drown," he explains. "I couldn't just watch."

[vivifier]

Well, to say he's confused would be an understatement. "No one else would have saved me." That, he knows.

[goodviberations]

"No," he agrees. "But then I guess it's a good thing I'm not anyone else."

[vivifier]

"Yeah. Good thing." Would he have let someone drown? He's honestly not sure. But he supposes he should be thankful. "Thank you."

[goodviberations]

A warm smile from the siren. "You're welcome."

[vivifier]

"What happens now?" It's an important question, honestly. Because he has no idea where they are, by the stars or by map. How he'll get home, if he even wants to.

[goodviberations]

"You rest. Recover. I can swim out and see if there are any other ships in the area that may be able to help."

[vivifier]

"...how will you get them to help?"

[goodviberations]

Cisco's answering smile is sharp and dangerous. Much less human than the one he'd been giving him. "I'll ask nicely."

[vivifier]

Well. That was certainly something, wasn't it? He wasn't afraid Cisco was going to get hurt anymore, that's for sure. "...all right."
